Joe Hourigan Memorial ‘5’ May 6th

Midleton AC held a successful meeting recently where the plans were put in motion for the highlight of our year - the Midleton AC Joe Hourigan Memorial 5 Mile Race on Thursday May 6th.

There are a number where ALL club members can help.

Firstly we would appreciate if would please download the attached race promotion poster. If possible please copy it (as often as you can) and then display it at your work place, local shop, gym, pub etc. We need you to spread the word about the race.

Secondly, Edmond O’Sullivan is co-ordinating stewarding for the race. Is there somebody you know that can spare some time to help us on the night – a family member, friend or work colleague?
If so please send text to Edmond with details -086-8323267

We will also have a draw for spot prizes on the night of the race – if you can acquire any prizes please forward them to Kathleen O’Connell.

Finally, Midleton AC has developed a reputation for the best after race food in the county. As usual we would ask each of our club members to bring a plate of sandwiches or some cakes if possible.

Kilnaboy 10 Miler

We are entering the busiest period of the year on the local front with races galore close at hand and of course the conclusion of the Munster 10 Mile Series in Kilnaboy County Clare on Sunday next. Midleton AC has currently 5 runners in the top 50 going into the final race. I’ve attached the full list of placings overall in the Series so that everybody knows where they stand going to the race. - Best of luck to all our travelling party in the big event.
Closer to home there is of course another 10 mile option on Sunday week when the inaugural Great Island ‘10’ will be run in Cobh. After last Sunday’s Belgooly ‘4’ and the Boherbue race today there are loads more events on the horizon.

Well done to all our runners in Belgolly – as you can see from the winners list, our crew collected plenty of prizes.

Ballintotis 4

The Castlemartyr ‘4’ which usually opens the summer programme is of course taking place in Ballintotis this year on Thursday April 22nd. Please note the pre register option listed in fixtures above. Many of you will already know that the race HQ is located at Ballintotis Church Car Park. For those visiting this scenic location for the first time keep an eye out for road signs which will highlight the venue. The simple advice is if you travelling from Midleton take the right hand turn just before Loughaderra Lake. If you are travelling from Castlemartyr direction take the left hand turn just after passing the Lake.

Training

Training will continue during the month of April each Monday at Midleton College from 6pm to 7pm. Training will also take place each Tuesday at 7pm from the Community Centre. This will consist of an outside run and replaces the usual Wednesday session indoors during winter. Remember no training on this evening Easter Monday.

Best Wishes

Finally sincere good wishes are extended to our marathon athletes – Fergal O’Meara and Kevin Morrisson who are heading for Paris and Noel O’Regan who is on the way to Rotterdam. All three have the work done and are in great shape. Best of luck lads!
