Hi Folks

WHAT A GREAT FEW DAYS FOR MIDLETON A.C – CONGRATS TO ALL

It’s been another SUPERB few days for our CLUB beginning with several members collecting prizes and others recording personal best times in Ballintotis.

Then on Sunday in the London Marathon Sean O’Sullivan clocked an excellent 3 hours 17 minutes, whilst Rosarii Griffin took a massive 35 minutes off her previous best time for the distance.  Both athletes afterwards reported to have thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.
Incidentally you can still contribute to Rosarii’s charity venture … here’s brief reminder

I am running London Marathon in aid of "Action Lesotho" and I'm asking if people could sponsor me 5 euro for doing so. Five euro would feed a child for a month. Five euro is a lot of money in the Lesotho context and would go a long ways.
I know things are tough at home for most people now. Any support therefore from Midleton AC Club members would be greatly appreciated.
As for me, I won't be bringing home any prizes. I just want to finish the run injury free. I also want to remember the children of Lesotho, and to bring them some hope for the future.

Running in Cork blog should confirm more success stories with full results later.
My colleague Peter Gunning, following his great Marathon run in Rotterdam will have full wrap up of the weekend’s action in his next overall review which follows next week.

The week ahead is particularly busy.
On Monday training at CBS is between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.  Later our juvenile club is hosting a fund raising Table Quiz from 8pm at Wallis Bar’.  Included here is a special auction for a 4 ball at the renowned Fota Island Golf Club. It’s superb prize which is certain to represent a bargain on the night.

On Tuesday our club training from 7pm takes the form of a trial run over the 5 mile course in advance of the Joe Hourigan Memorial Midleton AC race on Thursday week May 3rd.  Please meet on Tuesday at 7pm at the start line on Dwyers’ Road. Note change from Community Centre for this week.

On Wednesday we have an important meeting of the race organising committee – it takes palce at O’Meara’s Bar 9pm.

Then on Thursday it’s the East Cork Raod Championships in Ballynoe – the Ladies race over 2 miles begins at 7.30pm, the mens race over 5 miles has an 8pm start.  Please turn out in force!

CONGRATS TO OUR JUVENILES
Congratulations to the juvenile athletes of Midleton A.C. who all had
super performances over the past two Saturdays at the Championships.

All their super performances accumulated to win the overall Track &
Field Championships for the first time in over 20 years !

Well done to all for a great team atmosphere and wearing the club
singlet with pride.

- Special appreciation to all the parents/guardians for their interest
and support. - A special word to the wonderful coaches who give their time each week to training and preparing our young athletes for competitions like they have just won.

Finally, a few reminders re our 5 Mile Road Race next week – Are you playing your part by telling people about the event ?, are your encouraging people to take part or help out.?  Please help make this a great occasion. Last year we topped the 400 mark for the first time in many years.  We want to keep up that momentum! Remember if you are not running please assist on race night – there are plenty of jobs.. If you are running try to find somebody who can help out with stewarding or catering.  Drop me a mail back if you can assist.

In the meantime ‘keep on running’
