WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Munster Masters Cross Country
Medals Galore for Midleton AC

In Cappawhite Co Tipperary the Munster Master Cross Country Championships took place on Sunday. Described as brave ,courageous ,foolhardy and plain mad by various commentators our crews both male and female did our club proud. As can be seen from the photographs the conditions were simply very bad. This did now deter the Midleton AC teams and everyone acquitted themselves very well.

Fantastic results just in for the Midleton AC teams, Anna Doris took individual  bronze with 3rd O/45 whilst Sally Drennan narrowly missed out on a medal with 4th O/50 and Joan Hough once again showed her class in taking Gold with 1st O/55.
The Midleton AC 0/45 team took Silver with Anna, Joan and Sally scoring whilst Anna Doris also took Gold with the Cork team.
Our men  also did fantastic with Neilus Aherne taking Siver with 2nd O/55 and our men’s team O/50 taking Bronze with Neilus Aherne, Edmond O’Sullivan and John Cashman scoring. Whilst Neilus also took Bronze with the Cork O/50 team.So all in all it was well worth getting muddy for. Well done all.

Great Glenville Run 4 Miles

In what can only be described as terrible conditions of wind and rain the Great Glenville Run took place for the second time on Sunday morning. There was a fine crowd considering the conditions and we as expected had a few there.John Dunphy had a good run in 26.31 taking 2nd O/45 whilst Fionan O'hAodain got himself a new PB by over a minute in 27.17 which is some going on a morning like this. Edwin Cashman who continues to improve with every race did 26.51 and Alan Morley also had an excellent run.

Update on Broomfield Premises

Members may be aware that the Club was recently approached about our possible interest in leasing a small community building in Broomfield with a view to using it for Club-related activities. As a result, a sub-committee was set up to investigate the opportunity, gather the relevant information and report back to the main committee with its findings. This was done and all information was presented, reviewed and discussed at our committee meeting on Nov 25th. The outcome of these discussions was a decision not to proceed with the lease. In general, it was felt that the benefits of such a building to the Club were limited and that the effort and resources needed to manage the premises could not be justified at this point. The committee agreed that the resources and energy of Club members should focus on opportunities to enhance the overall training and athletic facilities available to members into the future.

PUBLIC FORUM ON NUTRITION and SPORT

We are currently organising a public science event on sport and nutrition in Teagasc Moorepark, which may be of interest to some members.
We have a few interesting GAA, rugby, jockey guests/speakers but also from an athletics and running point of view, namely:

Nial Moyna, Ireland’s leading sports physiologist based in DCU, also known from RTE’s Operation Transformation. At one of our last meetings I was moaning about my Dublin marathon experience and he casually mentioned that he ran a 2h16min marathon in Pittsburgh a few decades ago.

Joanne Fearon – Cork’s most prominent ultra-runner and triathlete. Her achievements include several iron(wo)men, Marathon des Sables, Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, a solo 601 km run from Malin head to Mizen  and more recently the current Guinness World record holder for the fastest time (male or female) to run 10 marathons on a treadmill, which she completed as the 12 charity marathons of Christmas (she got used to run treadmills after the birth of her second child). Joanne also confessed to me that she beat the 12-hour run world record at an unofficial (24h) event – amazing.

DIARMUID HEALY MIDLETON AC

u12 ALL-IRELAND CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPION 2015

Well done Diarmuid on a fantastic achievement yesterday coming home in 1st place at the GloHealth Inter Clubs Cross Country Championships in Santry.
And to the u12 team who all ran superbly to finish in 6th position overall - a superb team performance.
There were many other outstanding performances on the day from Midelton AC athletes
I know I don't normally put our juvenile achievements on this blog. but we are all the one club and we are all very proud of this amazing young man. Congratulations Diarmuid and to all your team mates and to all our juveniles who ran. Danny

Seniors might note that hidden modestly as always in the background  is coach Joan Hough without whose guidance none of these great results would happen.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Lust For Life

Well done to all who did this event this morning early and a special well done to some Midleton AC ladies who did both Cloyne and this race as well.

Aileen Hennessy reports " What an amazing Lust For Life run on Cork Airport runway at 1am this morning, Athmosphere was electric with a capacity of over 1500 runners and walkers of all abilities. Bressie was there to cheer us on and had a few words with me at the 4 Km mark. It was very well organised and a big thank you to Cork Airport staff and St Finbarr's AC.A great night not to be forgotten."

TRAINING CHANGE on Monday Nights

Hi all,
Monday night training will return to Midleton College hockey pitch from this coming Monday (Nov 23rd), at the same time 6-7pm.  Whereas we had hoped to stay on the grass at the Cricket field until Christmas, it proved too soggy for use last Monday. Please bring a high-viz vest as Donie may set a session out on the road for those training for longer distances.

 Best Regard
Anna

Hopefully most will have got the above e mail from Anna but as not every member is on e mail or reads the blog. PLEASE pass on the word of the change. Thanks Danny

CLOYNE 4kM

A great crowd of around two hundred and forty turned out  on Sunday for the start of the Cloyne series. As always our club supported the event in great numbers and as is the norm there the event was really well organised showing once again what a great community spirit exists in Cloyne.

Our first man home was Brian Harty who came 2nd male overall and the first lady home was Eileen Leahy who was never under threat and cruised to an easy win not so for Aoife Fouhy who ran a very strong race to hold off any challenge to finish 3rd lady. The highlight of the morning for me was to see Martha McNamara and Kathleen O’Connell start their comebacks. Both ladies have been out for some time and its great to see them starting back.
A big thank you also to Ballycotton Running Promotions who produced such excellent and timely results with only Athletics Ireland clubs listed as is proper in Athletics Ireland approved races.

Please Note:
A watch was found after race. If you are the owner, please contact Breda at 087-2749498
