WEEKEND RUNAROUND

BHAA - Janssen 6k

Well done to all who ran this morning in Little Island in the Janssen 6k.  Conditions were good, and the rain held off until the race was over.

Our prize-winners were:
Marie Gillman 1st o/50
Louise Barry 2nd o/35
Donie O'Connell 3rd o/65
Fergal O'Meara, Marc Dalton and Ger McLean were 2nd men's B team

It would seem that most that did the same race 3 weeks ago, improved today.  Shane Foley, following from his great run last weekend in Dungarvan, had another fine run finishing in 22:27.  Hot on his heels, 2 seconds later, was Morgan O'Regan.  Louise had a fine run knocking 20 seconds off the same course 3 weeks ago, as had Marie Gillman and both were in the prizes.  Edwin Cashman broke 24 minutes, getting himself a PB in 23:48.  Marc Dalton knocked over a minute off his time from 3 weeks ago, showing that his training is paying off - no doubt we'll be seeing further improvement as he returns to his full fitness.  David Moynihan too had an excellent run and a PB of 23:14.  Joan McCarthy also had a good run, over 30 secs faster than 3 weeks ago, as was Ger O'Regan.  Sean O'Sullivan had a fine run too, as he gallops back to his full form.  Well done also to new member Emer McLean, and to Ber Twomey and Mark O'Reilly.  And once again a big well done to Sheila Buckley!

If you ran this or any other race this weekend, please let us know at mdtacinfo@gmail.com

Thanks again to Joan McCarthy for the following photos:

Lizzie Lee wins Evening Echo Sports Star of the Year Award

Well done to Lizzie Lee (Leevale AC) and coach, Donie Walsh, on a well deserved Sports Star of the Year award on Friday night.  The photo above by Lizzie's dad, Gearoid O'Laoi, shows Donie with Michelle Finn (left) and Lizzie Lee (right).  Lizzie currently holds the fastest Olympic qualifying time for the marathon (2:23:51), which she ran in Berlin in September.  This is the 5th fastest Irish women's marathon time ever.
