Charleville Half Marathon

Report from Charleville ( By Mark Walsh)

Many Great Performances in Charleville Half Marathon along with lots of PBs and some prizes.
It was a very successful outing on Sunday morning for the Midleton AC athletes who all impressed. Morgan O'Regan and Eugene McCarthy led the way home for the Club, with David Moynihan very close behind, posting a PB. Shane Foley continued to build towards Dublin marathon with a fine run (PB). Other impressive PBs from the lads included Fionnan O'Hadain - just over 88 mins - Derek Ahern,  Ger O'Regan and Mark O'Reilly. Fine runs also from Fergal O'Meara, Mark Walsh, Mick Murphy, Kevin Morrison and Alan Kelleher (PB).
On the ladies side, Helen Gilroy had a fabulous run to take first prize in the O50 category, followed closely by Marie Gillman who took second in the same category. Great runs also from Esther Murphy, Amanda Cooney and Siobhan Hogan.
All in all, on a very wet day in North Cork, all Midleton AC athletes represented themselves and the Club with distinction.
Apologies if we have missed out on anyone or on any PB. Let us know.

East Cork Cross Country Championships

It was wet .It was miserable but definitely worth it. We saw some fantastic running from our club today when Sinead Keavney won the ladies closely followed by Anna Doris , Eileen Leahy and Christine Murphy. Sinead had a great race to win but due to the weather etc. one cannot blame the organisers for not having the team and other results to hand. We will report them when they are officially released .
A very special thanks to young Frank O'Brien who was good enough to lend Sinead his Midleton AC singlet (as she had forgotten her own) in order to officially represent Midleton and win 1st lady. Rules are rules and of course it would not be the first time that an O'Brien singlet was first over the line.
Our men also had great runs and wonderful to see Paul Spiteri getting back on form with a powerful run also Neilus Aherne, Francis Maunsell, John Cashman and Mike Hallihan all having fine runs again here we hope to be in the medals when the results are released.

As always best of luck to all who are running this weekend especially to those doing the Half Marathon in Charleville where we have a fine crew going with many trying to see where their Dublin training is at. Also of course to our crew doing the East Cork Cross Country in Conna. Its only out the road and well worth giving it a go. Just look at those who did it last year and see how much they have improved all round this year. Details of directions t just head to Ballynoe go through the village and down the hill and it will be signposted from there give me a call if needed 0872403940.
The kids races start first so adults should be around 1pm but be sure to get there early as it always helps to walk the course etc.
