WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Don't forget to spread the word.

East Cork Cross Country

Medals Galore Once Again

Just so proud and delighted with every ones performance out in Ballynoe today. Ye did absolutely amazing guys and ladies. Some people running cross country for the first time and others running marathons the day before. A detailed report and our amazing results will follow from Sally later.

Sally Drennan Reports

It was a perfect day for the first day of the cross country season.  The weather was great and the ground was good apart from the ever present cow pats!  Having said that, it was a challenging course with a very long gradual hill all the way up one side of the course which tested all the athletes.

After the juvenile competitions, the women's race was next.  The race was combined masters and senior.  Eileen Leahy ran as senior and the rest of the Midleton ladies were on the senior and masters team.  Siobhán O'Leary was running her first cross country race and excelled herself.  She had a fantastic run, finishing in 7th place and looking like she's been doing it for years!  Second Midleton athlete home was Sally Drennan, followed by Eileen Leahy, Louise Barry (who made the journey back from a weekend in Killarney a day early in order to run), Michelle Mc Grath and Susan Fitzgerald (it was Michelle's first cross country race and Susan's second one ever)  Well done to everyone.  Our senior team took the bronze medal and our over 35 masters team took second place. Also, Siobhan was 3rd over 35 individually.

Next up were the men. As usual this is a very fast race, with East Cork running away with the top five places individually! Declan Dorgan had a good run and led the Midleton men home.  It was good to see Marc Dalton back running cross country and finishing a few places behind Declan.  We also had a few newcomers to cross country running including Don McDonnell, Kevin Moran and Dan Twohig. The over 35 team team finished in 3rd place. It was also an incredible achievement that  Mike Hallahan and Barry Williams both ran today having run the Glen of Aherlow marathon yesterday!  What a feat!

Next competition is the county novice on 1 October in Riverstick.  Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to run there.

Charleville Half Marathon

On an ideal morning for running, with cool temperatures and little wind, Midleton AC runners put in many excellent performances at the Charleville International Half Marathon today. There were several PBs among those, including Ger MacLean,  David Moynihan,  Derek Ahern, Ger O'Regan, Marie Gillman and Paul Geary to mention some. Neilus Aherne was first home O60 while Marie Gillman  (O50) and Mark Walsh  (O55) were both third in their categories. Other great runs from Morgan O'Regan,  Amanda Cooney, Emer MacLean, Katherine O'Connor, Sheila Bulman, Sahara Horgan, Margaret Jones and Annette Fitzgerald.  Apologies if I have omitted anyone. Congrats to all.  (Thanks to Mark Walsh for the report)

Cross Country

Reminder of East Cork Senior and Masters Cross Country this Sunday.
I'm hoping to hear from some more eager cross country runners to make up teams for this Sunday.
It will take place in Ballynoe and will be signposted from there.  The juvenile races are first, starting at 11.30am.  Adults should be ready to run by 12.30pm as it is hard to be accurate about the start time. I would recommend getting there by 11.30 in order to have time to see the course and warm up.

The distances are 4000m for the women and 6000m for the men.lease let me know by email to this address or phone 087 2265857 if you plan to run on Sunday.

Kind regards,
Sally Drennan
