Christmas RUNAROUND

Bandon 5Mile

This race took place on 1st January and we had three club members there. There was a huge delay in the results for the one hundred and fifty runners that ran we left at 3.40pm with no results for a race that started at 1 pm approx.

The results appear to be out now and we have one winner with Joan McCarthy getting 1st O/60. Danny

Ger does not want to get his shoes dirty so he refuses to touch the ground.

Lap Of The Lake

Almost 2,000 Euro raised for Bumbleance.com and ( still open to donations )

This is the annual event organised by Ballintotis Fit4 Life with Noreen Cashman, Diane Broderick, Michelle Cott along with  Sean Leahy and an amazing crew of helpers ( I cannot name ye all it would fill the page).

It was done with the typical Ballintotis expertise and was an absolutely great morning. There were teams of four entered and the  team  nearest to their predicted time were the winners. Runners were NOT allowed to wear watches or use pacers. ( I had four Rolex in my pocket and felt like leaving early ha ha). We had a great number from Midleton AC and associate members there.

Well done Ballintotis on another brilliant morning and ye even got the weather right ye must start giving lessons on how to get things right on the night/day. Danny

Please do NOT forget The Lap Of The Lake Tomorrow ( see previous post below)

Belgooly 4 Mile

To try and describe Belgooly 4 Mile today would require a much better prose writer than myself but sufficient to say the conditions were brutal probably the worst I have seen in at least in attending and participating in this race for the last twenty five years or more.

So fair dues to everyone who ran in the wind, rain and cold. Hopefully the photos will give ye some concept of the day also we had prize winners Margaret Barry 2nd O/60 ( 1st O/65 if there was an O/65 prize) and Joan McCarthy 3rd O/60.
To see such friendship, love and respect between our members out there today in the lashing rain today was inspiring and YES  in case anyone was wondering Edwin Cashman was there supporting as always.

Well done all who ran I will not try and name everyone in case I forget someone except it was great to see Sinead Ivers back in action and running so well also Margaret Twohig  flying despite carrying an extra stone (ie  a diamond ) . Danny

Captains run Report from Captain Claire Fitzgerald

We couldn’t have been luckier with the weather, December 23rd ten degrees and dry. With the fun bus in place and the marquee erected by 9.30am  we just had to wait for the crowd to arrive. Again, It was a great turnout, not only from our club members and their families but also from those who came from the neighbouring Ballintotitis fit for life , Carrigtwohill, Watergrasshill,  Leevale and Carrignavar AC’s. Its wonderful to have great neighbours and friends across the county.

Once the rules and words of encouragement were delivered by Mark and Claire, the young guns, Emma & Emily fired the starting pistol with a festive rendition of Jingle Bells.

The first wave moved off at 10.10am, that is those who were running with a little more intent. The second wave had  plenty of salutes and ho ho ho’s as they went by. Cormac Ryan was first male  home in the 3k distance followed by first female Elena Moroney. The 5k first place was a closely fought final ‘dash’ with Noel O Regan just pipping Ger Mc Clean. Joint female winners were Kathryn O’Mahony and Aoife Fitzgerald, crossing the line arm in arm.

The sprint finish of our rear guard, Joan and Kathleen completed the run.

Refreshments were then the order of the day. Lots of home baking and goodies….Thank you all for your generousity.

Presentations were made to leading male/female in the 3k/5k and special prizes went to Siobhan Twohig for her first race and to Joe O’Riordan for this years couch to 5K first captains run.

Jim Harte rushed to the podium eager to kick off the singsong, thanks Jim!

We ended with a happy birthday to Marian Ahern who just celebrated a significant birthday and Edmond O sullivan who celebrates his birthday on Christmas Day, our own MAC saviour.

Mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, friends  young and old all completed the run for a good cause which is what its all about. This concluded the Midleton AC year with €684 raised for Midleton hospital. Thank you to all who made this morning special. We wish you all a peaceful Christmas and new year. See you all in 2018

Claire & Mark

The Captain's Run

Just said I would put up a few photo's of the Captain's Run this morning in Carrigtwohill and to say a huge thank you to everyone who turned up and contributed to the great cause of Midleton Hospital (A full report will follow from Claire later).
It was absolutely wonderful to see so many families there running and members from other clubs Leevale, Carrigtwohill, Watergrasshill,Ballintotis, Carrignavar ++ and other non aligned runners.
All were very welcome and contributed hugely to the event.
A very big thank you to our captain Claire Fitzgerald and Mark Walsh Vice Captain for all the work they put in to organising this great morning but last and not least Edmond O'Sullivan who instigated this event ( when we ran around the muck and hills of Walshtown Woods) and still would not be the success it is without him Danny
