VALENCIA Marathon
We had four runners here this morning. The conditions were not as expected as it was very warm. All had fine runs except Derek Ahern who went in with an injury and did the very sensible thing of dropping out when it began to effect him.
Tim Hannon had a fine run breaking the three hour mark with 2.59.37. Again he went in carrying an injury but ran sensible and achieved his goal of under the three hour mark. Ger O'Regan had the unfortunate problem of his watch not working and could not keep correct track of his timings still managing the excellent time of 3.08.23. Frances Maunsell had a fine run also managing to get in under the 3.30 mark. Well done guys looking forward to hearing all about it. Enjoy the celebrations.
Thanks to Louise and Ger for the photos

Just something to think about why you could benefit from doing Cross Country Danny
Why the cross-country is essential for the development of a runner?
Why Olympics/World Champs in 100/1500/5000/10000/marathon Coe/Ovett/Cram/Ingebrigtsen/Gressier/Kerr/Whightmen/Hocker/Bekele/Gebreselaissie/Kipchoge all ran XC?
John Treacy tells a great story about waking up on the morning of the 1979 World Cross-Country in Limerick. The rain had been lashing against his hotel window the evening before, right through the night, and it was still hammering down that morning. “Christ above, that’s some rain out there,” said his older brother Ray, sleeping in the hotel bed opposite and also running for Ireland that day. “The course will be an absolute mud bath.” “Perfect for me,” said John. “That’s going to scare off the softer runners. I’m definitely going to win today.”
Treacy knew what he was talking about. He’d become the youngest winner of the World Cross-Country over a similarly treacherous course at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow the year before, and despite the weight of a nation on his slim shoulders he would effectively run away with a second title in Limerick. By race time on Sunday, 3.50pm, it was still lashing, many of the 25,000 spectators trying to find some shelter around the old stand at the Green Park racecourse.
Treacy hit the front halfway through the second of the five ‘U’ shaped laps around the 12km course, and just like that he was away. He was a back-to-back World Cross-country champion, at age 21, although some of the joy was briefly lost that evening when he arrived back to his hotel room to discover all the hot water was gone.
John Treacy won a silver medal in the marathon at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. In less than one month we’ll get the European XC and in the next February Worlds XC.
Just think about it.
