WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Message from Club Captains
At risk of repeating Danny's message, we would like to sincerely thank all those who came out today to either run for the club or support this event by helping.  I heard numerous people from other clubs commenting afterwards on how glad they were to see the County Road Championships back on the calendar again.  This was only possible due to the fantastic effort put in by the club and committee. Many congratulations to all our runners.  It's a long time since we have been in a position to put forward teams in every category and it certainly paid off.  Check out the Cork Running Blog for more favourable comments and give yourselves a pat on the back!

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

All Ireland Bronze For Joan Hough

In the All Ireland Masters today Sunday in Dunboyne, Co. Meath Midleton ACs Joan Hough took the bronze medal in the O/55 section. She actually posted the same time as the second runner but was awarded third. Joan who gives so much of her time to coaching the Juveniles its amazing how she finds time for her own training so this result is really very well deserved. We are delighted for you Joan. Well done .

Kilworth Trail Run

Maggie and Matt Chojan did the trail run in Kilworth today Sunday which included two river crossings.

Adare 10 Km

Sunday saw the Adare 10Km take place where we had two runners. Sean O'Sullivan who is in flying form these days had a great run after completing seven + miles in the relay section of the Indoor Marathon yesterday was our first man home in a time of 39.47 which is fine running. He was closely followed by Mike Cremin in 40.51 running on his home turf and appears to be the first of the Cremin clan home. Well done guys. There was a total of 572 runners there today.

Midleton Indoor Marathon

John Dunphy on the run,

Well done to the organisers of this event It really was well organised especially for a first event great credit is due to them. On the home front the amazing Don O'Callaghan who last weekend completed the Clonakilty Back to Back Marathons this weekend did the Indoor Marathon and not only completed it but came 2nd Male as well. He was closely followed by John Dunphy who as always had a fine solid run and finished well up around fifth or sixth.

Don O'Callaghan with his beautiful handcrafted trophy.

In the relay section sisters Rose Barrett and Mary O'Keeffe did a half marathon each. This was Rose's longest race in years as these days she concentrates mainly on training the juveniles whilst Mary just completed her first marathon in Dublin last year. Maybe this will see the comeback of the famous "Dunne Sisters" who dominated the races some time ago.
Also in the relay we saw some really fine running from Sean O'Sullivan and Carmel Deane who made up half of a four person team.
All reports are that everyone seemed to enjoy it but most found it tough especially running on the carpets but overall a super event by all accounts.

A big thank you goes to all the Midleton AC supporters who came out today to support the event and the runners.
The great Gerry Forde did the first ever indoor marathon in Ireland in a wheelchair here today and the organisers think it might be the first in the world. It was great to see so many of the Midleton AC Juveniles running along supporting Gerry in his race today. It would have been a lonely journey on his own so our juveniles volunteered to help keep him company.

Massage

Don't forget to book your pre and post Ballycotton massage before its too late. Club member Neilus Aherne is offering Special Rates to all Midleton AC members.

Indoor Marathon

This weekend sees the first ever Indoor Marathon in Ireland and it takes place in Midleton Community College from early morning to late evening. We wish the organisers the Monday Night Club every possible success. Please call in and show your support.

We wish any other of  members doing it the very best also.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Help Needed For Ballycotton 10 Envelope Packing.

Please pencil in Thur. night next 20th Feb. as the night we help pack the envelopes for the Ballycotton 10 runners. Traditionally now we have as a club helped with this job for many years .
All we ask is an hour of your time on Thur. night in the CBS Midleton where the race numbers, programme etc. are packed into envelopes and got ready for posting. All the help we can get makes the job easier. You don't have to be running Ballycotton to help with this job and all help will be greatly appreciated . Just turn up at the CBS anytime from 7pm onwards please.

Carrigaline 5Mile

Sunday 16th saw the running of the Carrigaline 5 Mile organised by Eagle AC .This takes place over one of the toughest 5 mile circuits around and is a great build up to Ballycotton. Our first man home was Emmet Ronan who had a super run of 30.44 which was great running on this course and would have been under the 30 on most courses. Next came Francis Maunsell in 35.18 closely follow by Christopher Mc Carthy 35.30 which was excellent considering he is just back from injury and missed training. Other men who had fine runs were John O'Halloran, Mark Cullen, Donie O'Connell, James McMurtry and Danny McCarthy.
Our ladies also were well represented with Bernie Twomey, Lana Creedon, Maeve Horgan and Joan McCarthy all having good runs. Apols. if I missed anyone. Luckily the weather held until all were finished and as always the event was well organised.

Clonakilty Marathon

On what turned out to be a lovely morning for a run. Three amazing women from Midleton AC went on a training run and wound up doing 26.2 miles.in 3.49 .Yes its was a training run. There are very many in the club (men included) who would be delighted to race a marathon in that time and even end up boasting about it. They stopped their watches at 21 miles did a few stretches and jogged the remaining 5.2 in around 10 min pace, Helen Gilroy ,Margaret Jones and Sheila Buckley ye again did the club proud. Well done ladies Roll on Boston.

Back To Back Marathons

Don O'Callaghan was equally amazing in this event .Following in the footsteps od Margaret Jones who did this last year. This year it was the turn of Don O'Callagan who had  fantastic runs and turned in 3.43 approx. Sunday and 3.57 over both days. Don says the event was very well organised. Well done Don.

TRAINING

Donie O'Connell will be doing a training run in Ballycotton over the course next Sat. morning @9am.
Anyone interested in doing 8/9 min miles are welcome to join him. This will be Donie's 30th Ballycotton 10 so there is no lack of experience there.

Note Anyone with other reports please let the blog know. mdtacinfo@gmail.com

Clonakilty

Best of luck to everyone doing Clonakilty tomorrow and also to anyone doing the back to back. I know we have three brave ladies taking on the marathon. Helen Gilroy, Margaret Jones and Sheila Buckley. The ladies are doing it as a training run as part of their Boston Marathon preparations but you never know with these ladies they might just keep going and do the back to back.(ha ha ). Hope the weather improves.

Carrigaline 5 Mile

There is a 5 mile race @ 11am in Carrigaline on Sunday organised by Eagle AC. A race well worth supporting and a great preparation for Ballycotton 10 as there are some nice hills in it.

Janssen 4mile
This race took place Sunday in slightly better conditions than forecast with the only difficulty being a very strong wind against the runners for the last mile or so. The race was won well by Tim O'Donoghue. The crowd was smaller than the race there two weeks ago but that is normal with people training for Ballycotton etc.
We had a smaller number of athletes than usual taking part also but all acquitted themselves very well. Our first man home was Paul Spiteri having a fine run in 23.41 similar to his last time out but in much tougher conditions. He was followed by Shay Coffee making a welcome return to the racing scene. Then came Mike Cremin who despite suffering from a chest infection had a fine run. These were followed by the team leader of their team "Matt's Pilates" Matt Chojan. It certainly wont be long before they start getting some team prizes. John Cashman also had another fine run. Others that ran were Donie O'Connell, Michael McNamara, Jim Mc Murty , James McMurty and Danny McCarthy.
It was left to our ladies to win the prizes with Joan McCarthy 2nd O/55 and Kathleen O'Connell 1st O/60. Martha McNamara also had a fine run but doesn't appear to have been registered or else she would have featured amongst the winners.
The race was really very well organised with loads of stewards etc. The prizes were excellent with three prizes in all categories and loads of Spot Prizes. Our own Denise Hickey was amongst the main organisers and certainly did herself proud with the very smooth way the whole event was run.

There appears to be at least three races on the cards this weekend and more further afield.

JANSSEN 4 Mile Littleisland

This is always a very well organised event with lots of great prizes. The course is the usual Littleisland 4 Mile and hopefully we wont have the winds of Dungarvan because otherwise its a very nice race. Our own Denise Hickey is heavily involved in the organising which alone make it well worth supporting. Start time 11am but be sure and get there early as there will be big crowds. You must be registered with BHAA to qualify for prizes.

Corrin Hill Fermoy 5 Km

An other run organised by the Munster IMRA which after last weekends very popular one in Curragh Woods should again prove very popular. Any of our members running there please keep me posted.

Mealagh Valley

This one is for the really tough ones out there the Mealagh Valley 10 mile near Bantry starts at 11am but is not one for PBs its over a scenic but undulating course. This year they have also added a 5km run.

Daniel Colbert New PB

Daniel Colbert is running again in Athlone today representing UL where he has just won his heat of the 400 mtrs  in a new PB of 50.90. The Semi  Final is approx. at 2 pm and can be seen live on SportsLive. Daniel got through the semi's and had a fantastic run in the final to finish 3rd with a new PB of 50.71 So two PBs in the one day this young man is really flying.
