WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Stone Mad Blarney Half Marathon

A BIG Thank You to Maire Walsh for the photos.

We had a very fine crew out on Sunday morning in some terrible weather for the Stone Mad Blarney Half Marathon. Everyone acquitted themselves very well.

Our first man home was Club Captain Declan Dorgan in 1.29.33 followed by the "Battle Of The Mc's" between Eugene McCarthy and his son Tiarnan which resulted in a draw in a time of 1.37.46. A really fine time for Tiarnan's first Half Marathon.

They were followed by Loveness Hegarty also running her first Half Marathon in the excellent time of 1.43.24. Then came Joseph Power 1.45.47, Louise Barry 1.49.28, then came Christine Murphy 1.54.20. Mike Dorney 1.59.47 and Amanda Cooney 2.17.13.

Apologies if I missed anyone. Please let me know.

Midleton AC

Coffee and Treat Race!

Sunday 7th November 2021

As we face into the winter months the Midleton AC committee have decided to run a special ‘fun-run’ on Sunday next, the 7th November 2021.

The aim of this 4 mile ‘race’ is to have everyone finish at approx. 9.45am.

All participating runners are asked to be at the start line (Mile 1 of the Midleton5 course near the Gaelscoil) at the time appropriate to their own abilities (runners that can run 4 miles in 28 mins will start at 9.17 etc). Runners are asked to record their own finishing time at the finish line.

All participants will then be treated to a coffee and a treat from a local retailer at the finish line.

We hope that all of our members have had a productive year, that all are keeping themselves fit and healthy and that all are looking forward to maintaining a decent level of fitness through the winter months as we look forward in anticipation to a much busier race calendar in 2022.

Best wishes to all.

Midleton AC committee.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Training

Just a reminder that there is no official training on Monday evening due to the Bank Holiday. The recommended session is the same as last week for anyone wishing to do it.

Training Wednesday at 7pm as usual.

New York Virtual Marathon

Well done to Rosarie Griffin who completed the New York Virtual Marathon on Monday. Rosarie who had previously travelled to NY to do the marathon in 2012 only to have it cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy was all set and trained hard to be ready to travel again this year only to have her hopes dashed once again due to the travel restrictions not being lifted until after race day.

She decided to do the virtual instead and today completed the 26.2 miles in fine style. Big thanks to Helen, Sarah and Joan who ran some of it with her and to all who offered support especially Mags Jones, Loveness and Bernie. Well done Rosarie.

Munster Novice Cross Country

This took place in Two Mile Boris in Co Tipperary on Sunday. Eileen Leahy was our sole representative and she did really well. Having to start without even a warm up due to the early start of the race Eileen finished 20th out of a very competitive field and narrowly (only a few seconds) missed out on a bronze medal. Her finishing place should qualify her for the Cork Team for the All Irelands.

BHAA 5Km Littleisland

No lads the time is right its just ye have slowed down a bit.

The BHAA organised a 5Km Race in Littleisland on Sunday morning and after avery bad night the weather was fine for running. We had a fine crew out and it was really great to meet so many from other clubs that we had not seen for so long. Everyone ran well considering it was their first race in so long. Our first man home was Henry Milward who has been doing some other races and it showed today in the fine time he did. Our first lady was Siobhan Murphy who also had a fine run show her MMRA running is paying off. Well done to all who ran.

The race was very well organised and all the social distancing etc was well observed and we can well do without the tea after once we can race again.

No lads the time didn't change. It's still the same.

Glen River Park Run

Tony Murray ran here again on Saturday and finished 5th overall and improved his time once again to 22.05. Well done Tony.

Tralee Half Marathon

Amanda Cooney was on the road again when she travelled to Tralee for the Half Marathon. Here she is pictured with our former member Esther Murphy who emigrated to Kerry.

and below is Margaret Twohig who also did the Tralee Half in the fine time of 1.59. Well done Mags.

VIRTUAL Dublin Marathon

A big well done to Linda Curtin who once again completed the Virtual Dublin Marathon on Sunday morning. She was assisted by some club members Yvonne Fitzgerald Breda Sheedy and Mark Walsh. Well done Linda.

GOLD For Our Ladies Team

and Individual Silver For Eileen Leahy

Another great day at the Novice Cross Country where our Ladies Team won GOLD and Eileen Leahy won individual SILVER.

Our ladies team all ran really well and huge kudos and thanks are due to Susan McGrath who stepped in at the very last minute to make up the winning team and made a great contribution with her fine running as well.

Ladies were led home by Eileen Leahy who had another great race battling all the way to narrowly lose out for first place. Next came Loveness Hegarty who continues to improve with every race she was followed by Susan McGrath and then the ever solid and reliable Sally Drennan completed the winning team.

Our men despite battling gallantly finished a fine fourth. They were led home by club Captain Declan Dorgan followed by Ger O'Regan and Edmond O'Sullivan, Then came the other members Maurice Ring, Michael Murphy and Francis Maunsell. Everyone played their part and gave their all to narrowly lose out on the medals.

Another great day for our club.

Well done all and big thanks to everyone who came to support.
