Irish Life Dublin Marathon 2023

What a day there were some fantastic results achieved by some of our members here today. Mark Cronin was the first of our runners home in a time of 3.20.49 and he was closely followed by Don McDonald who because he had car trouble yesterday had to avail of the special service available to our club members from Brian Healy (Dublin Marathon Committee) Thanks a million for the help Brian.

Our first lady home was Maire Walsh who made a great marathon debut with a wonderful time of 3.34.41. Of course she says "Never Again" but we have all said and heard that before. Dermot Donovan also had a great run getting a well deserved PB by over ten minutes. Linda Curtin and Siobhan Murphy both had good runs and Siobhan made her debut in fine style. The ever consistent Amanda Cooney did not suffer from celebrating the South African win the night before and can celebrate tonight instead after her fine run.

The streaming service on U Tube worked a treat and it was great to be able to see some of our members crossing the line. The support as always with our club was second to none with a great crowd travelling up to cheer the runners on. Big thanks to ye all.

The Best Supporters Club In The World

Thanks to Breda Sheedy, Margaret Jones, Louise Barry and Derek Ahern for some of the photos and anyone else with photos or reports please send them on. We would be delighted to put them up here.

The big weekend is here at last and we wish the very best and safe travelling to all our crew running and supporting. We have five runners taking part the smallest number in many years but we wish the very best to Amanda Cooney,  Linda Curtin, Siobhan Murphy and Maire Walsh and our three male reps Mark Cronin, Don McDonald and Dermot Donovan and anyone else we might have going. We have a big crew going up to support. You can all follow it on the Marathon Tracker app. and also there will be live coverage on Irish Life Dublin Marathon/Athletics Ireland U Tube channel with commentary by Lizzie Lee.

Also we wish the best of luck to Fearghal Curtin Youghal AC who is making his marathon debut in Frankfurt.

Before the start Dermot, Linda and  Siobhan.

The team were ranked 5th after a preliminary round in June but pulled off a historic win with some massive performances from girls all over East Cork. They had an athlete in all of the twenty one events,  with the points total from their top fifteen events added up to give them a total of one hundred and nine points, just three points in front of the favorites Tipperary . Leah threw in the 4kg hammer section finishing in second place gaining seven valuable points for the East Cork Team.

Galway Bay Half Marathon

Well done to Amanda Cooney on her run in the Galway Bay Half Marathon where she clocked 2.21.00 showing she is well on target for Dublin.

County Novice Cross Country Championships

This too place on a nice mild Sunday afternoon in Bandon. We has one team of four ladies. Every one of them ran their hearts out and did the club proud. They were led home by Sinead Falvey who had an amazing run. It was great to see Sinead back in the Midleton colour's after a long absence. Running her first cross country in nearly twenty years she showed she has lost none of her skill or talent. She was followed by Eileen Leahy ever solid and reliable to have a very fine run. Then Meadhbh Campbell another newcomer to the squad had a great run also showing she is a great addition to the team. Then came Loveness Hegarty solid as always and giving her all to bring the team home.

Well done ladies ye truly represented the club very well. Sad to say that due to injury we had no men's team.

Meadhbh with her support crew.
