Hills Of The Harbour

Message From Sally Drennan
Midleton Cycling and Triathlon Club are holding the Hills of the Harbour triathlon on Sunday, 7 July at 10.00 am in Whitegate.  They are looking for marshalls and would be delighted to hear from anyone in Midleton AC who is willing to give a hand.  Barbecue afterwards for competitors and marshalls!  Definitely an easier day guaranteed for competitors and marshalls than Ironman Youghal! Please contact Tina on 087 2792356 if you are willing to help.

Regards,
Sally

Message From Susan Fitzgerald
Morning DannyCan you please thank all the club members for their support last Sunday. They were popping up everywhere, it was fantastic. I was very proud of myself to make the bike cut offs ,I thought the run was going to be the easy bit !!!! . The weather got the better of me. I ended up walking too much and panicked that I wouldn't make the cut off. I was too cold and gave up after 23k.
Tough day but won't give up the dream yet.   Susan

IRONMAN IRELAND

So totally proud and overawed by our three IRONMAN competitors out there today in all the wind and the rain and delighted to see their success along with all the others. Heart braking, soul destroying, awesome, amazing, unbelievable are words echoing around the streets all day. To say well done in this case just is not enough lets just say " BRILLIANT"

A big well done  also to all our club members who stewarded and supported  for the six hour stints and longer.

Thanks to Claire Fitzgerald, Dan Twohig, Louise Barry and others for the photos. Any more please Whats App them or send them to mdtacinfo@gmail.com or 0872403940 Danny

Nice run coming up next Wednesday evening.

Viking Waterford Marathon and Half Marathon

Paul Geary not only went trail running a few days after his Cork Marathon today Saturday he did the full marathon in Waterford and had a great run. He was very pleased with his run as he should be clocking 3.45 and for the first time not stopping once. He says the organisation was great and he was ably assisted by his "wingman" Derek Ahern ( Paul's words).

Derek did the half and was also very pleased pacing himself well and using it as a training run. Well done lads.

We wish the very best of luck to our three members taking part in the IRONMAN on Sunday next. Susan Fitzgerald, Miah McGrath and David Ginnell. Hopefully all will go well for ye and we will be dotted around cheering ye on.

Date For The Diary

This race has an Athletics Ireland permit and is over an accurately measured course with all funds going to a very worthy cause the National Rehabilitation Hospital. Well worth doing.

East Cork Track and Field

This took place in Ballynoe on Thursday  evening and we were very well represented by Ger O'Regan who proved once again that he is turning into a very fine track runner. Ger won Silver in the 1500m O/45 and Bronze in 5000m O/45. Two more medals to add to his growing collection.

Donoughmore 7

We had three runners in Donoughmore prepared to "Take The Challenge" as their slogan says and all had very good runs. John Cashman 3rd O/55 and Neilus Aherne 1st O/60 once again. Joan McCarthy also had a very fine run. This is one of the toughest courses around and going by its slogan not for the faint hearted.

Neilus and John after being released for the night.

Trail Running

A fine crew turned up again on Thursday evening for the Trail Running session. This week saw Walshtown Woods in use once again. This used to be the venue once upon a time for the Captain's Run over a four mile loop but it is still a very good training venue and well worth using.
UPDATES

Being part of a club often means you are spoiled for choice and Thursday is again one of those evenings. We have Traail Running continuing and tonight sees a return to Walshtown Woods at 6.30 pm. We have the second leg of the East Cork Track and Field taking place in Ballynoe GAA Grounds ( Confines to AAI members of which you are one and be sure to bring your Midleton AC singlet) Lots of short races for Ladies and Men so give it a go.

Also this evening we have  Daniel Kinston Memorial 5Km in Macroom at 8pm and for those who want a longer distance we have "Take The Challenge" in the Donoughamore 7Mile.

We have athletes in all these events so no one will be alone and we wish everyone good and safe running.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Blast From The Past

Fading fast but never ever to be forgotten. How many of you recognise this famous start and finish line ?.

Half On The Head

Club member Esther Murphy ran the Half On The Head on Saturday. The Half on the Head follows a wonderfully scenic course from Ballyheigue Village right around the Kerryhead loop before ending up back at the start point. The 13.1 mile run takes you along one of the most unspoilt portions of the Wild Atlantic Way. Run beside the Shannon Estuary with views across the river mouth to the coast of Clare. Glancing back you will see the rugged Kerry coastline stretching to the town of Ballybunion. You might even catch a glimpse of the fabled Cliffs of Dooneen.

Day Two East Cork Track and Field

This event takes place on grass in Ballynoe next Thursday evening and is well worth trying out. Everyone of you are more than able for these distances and you have a chance of winning an East Cork medal. Its only fifteen minutes out the road and you could even warm up with the Trail Running session if you felt so inclined.

Date For The Diary

On 17th August in the Hunted Hog.
More details to follow shortly.

Coolagown 5Km

Anne Geary Wins Coolagown

We had a fine crew out in Coolagown on Thursday evening where Ann Geary showed she is regaining her form. Ann who had a few seconds this year was a clear winner in Coolagown running a very good race. Incidentally she was second here last year.

Other fine runs were had by Edmond O'Sullivan who won 1st O/55 and Neilus Aherne who stopped half way around to give a massage to an injured East Cork runner and still managed to win 2nd O/60. The rest of our men John Cashman, Tom Cody, Donie O'Connell and Brian Martin had fine runs also.

Kathleen O'Connell won 1st O/60 whilst Anne Marie Perry, Joan McCarthy and Noreen O'Riordan had excellent runs.

Trail Running In Curragh Wood

There was a fine crowd at the fifth week of trail running in Curragh Wood on Thursday evening.
