BELFAST MARATHON

Amanda Cooney ran Belfast Marathon on Sunday where they experienced all types of weather over the 26.2 miles on a tough course. Amanda did 5.03.52 which is excellent under such conditions. It was won in 2.22.54 and that helps understand how tough it really was.

Well done Amanda always doing the club proud.

 East Cork Road Championships Ballynoe

Silver For Vicki Spiteri

There was one of the largest crowds ever running in Ballynoe on Thursday evening. This is the longest running road race in Ireland.

We had a fine crew there from the club but were missing some of our faster runners due to injury. Vicki Spiteri was our sole medal winner when she ran a great race  to move easily from 3rd to 2nd on the final hill and claim the Silver which she had previously won last year. Its only fair to say that each and every one of our runners ran their hearts out and did the club proud.

A big thanks also to the large crowd of supporters from the club who turned up to support and also to all who ran.

Thanks also to St Catherine's AC who did such a fine job in hosting the event and to John Hennessy Chairperson and Mike Dorney Secretary of the East Cork Division who organised the whole thing so very well

Midleton AC 5 Mile

Hi All,

Our annual five mile race is just around the corner and there are a few areas we still need help in.

Mick Murphy is looking after stewards so if anyone can spare time on the night, please drop him a text on 0863850980.

Colette Dalton is looking after registration on the night so if anyone is free before the race to step in with handing out numbers/pins etc, please let Colette know at 0863453265. If you are running the race, you will still make it to the start so no excuses!

Bernie Twomey has kindly offered to look after catering. This is a particularly demanding role as it involves setting up the area, preparing the food, tea & coffee. It also involves a clean up at the end. While you may not be free for the whole evening, a couple of hours at some point would be incredibly appreciated.
Bernie is contactable at 0872311688.

We will also need food; lots of food! Sandwiches are usually in short supply; cakes, both gluten free and plain are also welcome. We have a reputation for a good post run spread, so let's not disappoint!

If anyone has access to burco boilers, tea pots etc, please let Bernie know.

Finally, over the next few days, there will be a number of Facebook posts advertising the race. Please like and share to get the message out there.

Thank you to everyone in advance.

Ballynoe 3Km and 5Mile Next Thursday Evening

The famous Ballynoe East Cork Roads is taking place next Thursday evening and we hope as many of you as possible run it.

The Chair of the East Cork Board John Hennessy and the Secretary is Mike Dorney both from our own club so we should be out there in numbers supporting them as they are the chief organisers.

All we are asking you to do is run it there is no need to race it if you don't want to. Just run it and show support for the race

This is the oldest continuous championship race in Ireland and is deserving of all the support it can get.

Ladies 3 Km at 7.30 Men 5 Mile at 8pm approx. No need to pre enter just turn up on the night with your club singlet.

Bartlemy 6 Km

Putting our best foot forward with Midleton AC’s 5 Mile Race

The Midleton 5 Mile Joe Hourigan Memorial Road Race takes place on Thursday, May 4th at 8pm and earlier today we were delighted to support this long-running (pardon the pun) sporting event. Becky and Majella from Midleton Credit Union made a presentation to Claire Fitzgerald on behalf of Midleton AC. Race HQ is at Market Green Shopping Centre. We’ll CU there

Help Needed

As the race is nearing, we are looking for some members to help with catering on the night. This would mean helping to set up tables, food, tea etc. as well as serving. Bernie Twomey has kindly stepped up to lead this team. All help would be welcomed. Please give your name to Bernie if you can help.

We also need sandwiches (these are badly need as we nearly ran out of them at the last race) and cakes so if you can find time to rustle up anything, that would be fantastic

WhatsApp “Mac Runner Beans”

We have a “WhatsApp” Group in the club called “MAC Runner Beans“ of which many club members are joined. This was set up by Claire a number of years ago and has grown in popularity since. I am well aware that many people are sick of “WhatsApp Groups” so it is completely voluntary to opt in or out. Currently there are over one hundred members in the group and it is confined to registered club members. It is primarily used as a source of information, communication etc..

Anyone wishing to opt out can do so themselves at any time but if there is any member wishing to join the group just send me a text with your name etc. to 0872403940 and I will add you to the group.

There is absolutely no obligation to join and all information relevant to the club is carried on the blog..

There are also lots of other  smaller individual groups in the club and this is in no way trying or wishing to replace them.

  Ballintotis 4 Mile

Loads of Prizes Once Again and Ladies Team 2nd

Another fantastic night in Ballintotis. They really do know how to put on a race and the spread after had to be eaten to be believed. Another great community event.

As a club there we also did great winning lots of prizes. Our Ladies Team came 2nd Eileen Leahy, Siobhan O'Leary, Caroline Geary and Sheila Buckley. This was the first year Ballintotis introduced Team Prizes and this was a super result when you consider the number of ladies teams running. Well done ladies.

Siobhan O'Leary 1st O/50, Marian Aherne 2nd O/55, Martha McNamara 2nd O/60
