Our new Couch 2 5Km is starting next Wednesday the 12th Jan at 6.30pm

Whilst there are various other C2 5K courses out there ours is the best value around. Some courses are charging four and five times ours and do not give the personal advice and attention that ours does.

We have both female and male qualified coaches with years of experience of helping people learn to run between them. Our course has put hundreds on the road to happy days of running and has a proven track record.

You will be covered by Athletics Ireland insurance whilst you train and will be a club member for the year enabling you to progress from when you complete your 5Km to what ever distance you so desire.

BHAA Cross Country

1st for Edmond O'Sullivan 2nd for Sinead

The annual BHAA Cross Country took place in Beaumount on Sunday morning. The underfoot conditions were a little slippy in places but we saw some fine running. Our first runner home was Sinead O'Driscoll who also came second overall. She was followed by Edmond O'Sullivan making his debut on this course and having a really great run especially as he is just back from injury.Edmond wound up coming 1st in his Category.

Mark Fuller also making his debut had a very fine run also. Barry Drennan, Kathleen O'Connell and Donie O'Connell are veterans on this course and showed it with fine running . Around one hundred and sixty runners took part which was a fine increase on recent years showing cross country is gaining in popularity.

BHAA News From Edmond

Fellow athletes now is the time to  join your MIDLETON TOWN COUNCIL BHAA Team for 2022!!!! For just €10 you get ALL BHAA races for €5 AND you have the gateway to lucrative TEAM PRIZES across all abilities. That is the beauty of BHAA races. No matter what your running pace is be it 5min/mile or 10/min mile for every 3 Midleton Town Council team members there is a chance that you might win a team prize. In theory if 9 members ran, all 9 could obtain a team prize via three runners in three different prize categories.

Unfortunately BHAA are not set up for online membership and payments so the only way we can do this is for each of you to fill in the attached team membership form and either post it + your cheque/postal order for €10 directly to Kevin Cummins OR just give the completed form + €10 to Kevin at the next BHAA race BUT remember you will not be registered for that day’s race.

Edmond, team secretary,  will have copies of the BHAA team membership form available at training next week.

C2 5K will start a new session at 6.30 on the 12th outside the Co Op Stores Market Green

Please pass the word around as much as you can.

We have a Special Offer for potential new members (people already running) of a two week free trial session with the club without any commitment to join.

So again please pass the word around and invite anyone you know that is already running to come along and see if it suits them. This offer applies to both Monday and Wednesday sessions.

Edmond’s Message

Wednesday 7pm Club Training will recommence from Army Surplus Store car park market Green @ 7pm on January 12th.

For a variety of reasons, the club has decided to move the 7pm Wednesday Midleton Community Hall session to Market Green, 7pm from the Co Op Stores car park. Edmond will take the session which will be run/ tempo run based in order to complement the speed session on Mondays and to accommodate those members who are unable to get to the Monday 6pm session.

There will be a light warm up 7 to 7.15pm, you will be organised into your appropriate group( 7min/ mile, 8 min/ mile etc up to 10min/mile plus group AND a recovery run group) a group leader will be identified, a route identified and off you go.

The idea here is to challenge yourself within a group, using the speed developed ( hopefully!) from the Monday speed session. Also and very importantly this is a regular definite club session affording time for chat, catch up and identifying possible new training partners/training group, bringing new members into the fold.

A few obvious things:

1. You are adults. You are responsible for yourself. This is a very busy town, surfaces can be dodgy. Please be careful!

2. You must wear appropriate high viz gear.

3. VARY your runs and training routines and training partners..... Do NOT do the same run with the same people every week!

BHAA First Race Of 2022

Message from BHAA

Our first race of the year is the traditional ESB Cross Country in Blackrock on Sunday Jan 9. Previously registered runners are still counted as registered for this race so check if you're on the (good) list. As this is a mixture of old and new there can be a delay for anybody recently registered so please bear with us.

Note this is a nice introduction to cross country for anyone interested in trying it out over a nice easy course with a nice friendly atmosphere. Danny
