Run In The Dark

Huge congrats to Andrea McNamara who finish 2nd Lady overall in the Run In The Dark from a very large number of runners also to John Cashman for his wonderful commentary.

 

Christmas Night Out

The club will be hosting a Christmas dinner on December 7th at 7pm at Surf and Turf in the East Cork golf Club where we will be met with mulled wine on arrival and a 3 course meal all for €35 a head. We have booked for up to 50 people and a new poll will go up closer to the date to gauge how many we can expect. Christmas jumpers optional

Silver for our Ladies Team in the Counties

Our ladies Novice B Team ran a fantastic race today to take the silver medals. Each runner ran their hearts out and we saw some great running. Dee Duran, Rosie Young, Nathalie O'Connell, Meadhbh Campbell and Melanie Etienne ye did our club proud once again Thanks Ladies. 

Greetings From Athens

A big hello from Athens  

It is great to be a supporter of fellow marathon runners, and here I am witnessing the “Athens Authentic Marathon” as the proud Greeks call it. The route follows in the footsteps of Pheidippides, from the town of Marathon to Athens, along -yes you guessed it- Marathone Avenue for most of the way. It is a point to point marathon with a long and slow uphill section in the middle (total climb of over 300m) but a long 10km downhill, ending  in the historic Panathenaic stadium in the centre of Athens.

Myself and Geraldine ran the 5km night run the day before. We were joined by over 17,000 (!!!) other runners, which gave it a real big-race atmosphere. Running past the antique Hadrian’s Gate, the Agora, a clear view of the Acropolis and crossing the finish line in the historic white marble Panathenaic Olympic stadium was nothing short of spectacular.

Sunshine, nice food, friendly people, well-organised race: a real treat.
