WEEKEND RUNAROUND

At The Races

Waterford Half Marathon

No details in yet except some very happy faces.

Grange Fermoy 4 Mile

We had some fine running here on Friday evening where Paul Hartnett from our Juv. Section finished 3rd overall in a time of 21.59 and Tom Cody took 2nd O/60. Other fine runs were put in by Edwin Cashman (24.07) just back after a break and six miles earlier in the day also Mick Murphy 24.39, Fergal O'Meara 25.19 and Michael Abernethy 26.00. Well done all.

Please pass the word around

On The Camino Again

Club member's Kathleen O'Connell and Donie O'Connell along with club member Margaret Barry above ( yes the same lady who did the adventure race in Bantry last weekend) and her husband Tony will be starting their second stage of the Camino next week.
Best of luck to them and hopefully Kathleen will keep us informed of their progress. As she is always brilliant at giving us reports and photo's of the races I do not make.

Club Outing and Races

For those interested in a club night away, here is something lined up which should suit everyone. For those trying to unwind after all that Dublin marathon training, a night away with running and drinks could be just what you need;-)
And for those not running Dublin, well, running and drinks is always a good idea so why not!

Here are the details:

First up is an early start to run the Kerry Crusaders 10K or Half Marathon in Listowel at 10am on Saturday morning, then we head to Killarney in the afternoon where we have twin rooms booked at the Killarney Avenue Hotel, on a rate that includes breakfast and a 3-course evening meal. The plan for Killarney on arrival is your own version of race recovery - sleep, shopping, sightseeing or sitting in a pub with a nice fire. There will be an early evening dinner with the group and then after that, it is completely up to you - a night on the town or a sensible night in.

REGISTRATION
To join the outing, you must register and pay for your room here (click "Register" at the bottom of this page). All Midleton AC members and friends are welcome.
Rooms are limited and registration will open on Friday Sept 1st and close when either the rooms are gone or by Sept 29th, whichever comes first.
To make life easy, we also offer the option here for you to enter the race (your choice of 10K or Half). The race is limited to 500 entries and has sold out for the last two years. Places are selling fast and they expect to sell out again this year. We are in direct contact with the race director to hold places so if you book here now, you will have a place - but no such guarantees after we close registration for the outing.

Cross Country On The Way

The season kicks off with the East Cork senior and masters cross country.  This will be held on Sunday, 17 September.  The venue is to be confirmed, but it will be the Conna area.  Everyone in the club is eligible to run this race and we would encourage anyone who is interested in running cross country to start with this which is a low key event.

The following is a provisional list of cross country dates for your diaries:

17 September   East Cork senior and masters
1 October          County Novice, Riverstick
8 October          County Senior, Conna
15 October        County Intermediate, Carrignavar
22 October        Munster novice and under 23, Co. Clare
22 October        Autumn Open cross country
5 November      County masters and novice B, Riverstick
12 November    Munster senior and under 23, Tipperary
18 November    British and Irish Masters cross country championships, Derry
19 November    Munster masters, Riverstick
3 December      Munster intermediate, Co. Clare

For those who are new to cross country, novice category applies to anyone who has not previously won an individual cross country medal in that cross country race or a higher level.  Athletes who win an individual novice medal then move up to intermediate and then on to senior. This is a simplified explanation.  If anyone is unsure, please feel free to ask me. Masters categories are for any athlete over the age of 35.

Cross country running is not just for elite athletes.  Everyone can do it and there is nothing like it for improving your fitness in the winter months.

Midleton AC has gone from strength to strength in cross country running in recent years and I hope this trend will continue.
