Meet & Train 2024 | 4 Week Social Running Initiative
For the 3rd year running, Cork Sports Partnership has teamed up with Cork City Council, the Cork City Marathon and a number of Cork clubs to coordinate a social running Meet and Train Initiative.
Cork City Council are delighted to be involved in the Meet & Train programme again this year. We are looking forward to a successful Cork City Marathon 2024 and this initiative allows people of all athletic abilities to enjoy and take part on marathon day, Sunday, June 2nd. A huge thanks to Craig Harrington and Corks Sports Partnership, and of course our wonderful coaches from Athletics Ireland. We look forward to seeing you all at Cork City Marathon 2024.” David Walsh, Deputy Race Director, Sports & Sustainability, Cork City Council
A social running initiative to support people in getting active and connecting with like-minded people who enjoy running together!
Local Athletics Club meeting point
4-week meet & train sessions guided by experienced coaches
Commences Monday April 16th, 2024
The Meet & Train initiatives are facilitated by volunteers from local running clubs for a period of 4 weeks. That’s the time for people to meet other like-minded runners who are then happy to keep meeting for regular independent training sessions afterwards. The volunteers from the local running clubs will be happy to help to build groups with similar experiences and abilities.
Who’s it for?
Everyone! No matter what fitness level you are, how about being part of a supportive community to keep you active, meanwhile meeting like-minded people to help achieve your goals? That’s the point of training – to get better and enjoy yourself, so regardless if you’re the next Usain Bolt or simply have never run before, this is for you!
“We are delighted to once again team up with Cork City Council & numerous Cork Athletics Clubs to coordinate this years Meet & Train. This programme will allow runners of all abilities to come together in a supported environment to achieve their goals. A big thank you to all the clubs for coming on board again this year”. Craig Harrington (Athletics Development Officer Cork & MTU).
What does it involve?
Begin your journey in one of many groups across Cork. Meet each time in a designated area alongside new and seasoned runners. Any questions you have – don’t fear! That’s why you’re here; secure advice from mentors in your group who will educate and motivate you and of course, offer your support to others because we all simply have something to give.
Another benefit to getting involved is the opportunity of making new friends or simply reconnecting with your own by getting yourself a team and possibly a running buddy to experience your training with.
Ultimately we want you to feel encouragement from your new community and be the part of that team to encourage others while enjoying yourself and having fun! It is completely free to register so why not give it a go!
