Dungarvan 10 Mile
What a day!
PBs, No PBs, Bernie lost and celebations in
Kanturk…. Only in Mideton AC!
Midleton AC
made our way East; destination ‘Dungarvan, the new best 10 miler race”. Conditions
were perfect; dry & bright. There were a few sore throats, head colds,
phanton tweaks and aches but soon, all dissipated as the starting time edged
closer.Buses and autombiles brought the biggest club partipants to this years
race.
The bus was a cauldron of nerves and
anticpation but once we arrived and John Treacy obliged us by taking our bus photo,
we loosened up.
We then saw it deferential to include him
in the next photo.! Hon to John Treacy, Olympian extradinaire.
All 58 of us arrived at the starting line
and finished, albeit with a few minor injuries. There are too many highlights
to be mentioned but its necessary to include a few.
Morgan O’Regan was our first Midleton
athlete home and considering Morgan’s recent injury, it was a phenomanal time.
Super woman Ann Geary, our rising star romped home in pristine condition.
9th
lady overall, 1st in her category and was champoroned closly by Don
Mc Donald who clipped 3 minutes off his PB. Derek Ahern had them within his
sights, arriving through the gantry in 65, chopping minutes off his PB.
Dave Cody, who has gone from strenght to
strenght bagged a PB of 68, well done Dave.
Deirdre Ahern was our second lady home in
72, and 10th lady overall in this hottly contested category knocked minutes
off her PB. She is in peak form following her superb Cloyne winter series, and
is currently in third postion.
Dan Twohig despite an injury muscled a PB of
77 and Richard Power also knocked 5 minutes off his PB coming home in 78.
Brendan Barry also clocked a PB after his first race in 3 years.
Our true heros are often unsung, and
deserve equal if not more recognition because of their effort and time spent on
the road. Our newest member Brian Martin hacked 9 minutes off his first ten
miler last year in Ballycotton, well done Brian.
But it was Mike Dorney who completed his
first ten mile race that excelled in the field. Well done Mike, you beat
everyone for the top PB time.
As we edged closer to home time and loaded onto
the bus, we were down one on the roll call, Bernie! What appeared like hours,
Bernie casually appeared a half an hour later; This was after a second search
party had gone out for the first search party, Monty python had nothing like
it.
We didn’t party like it was 1999 but rumour
has it Derek led Eugene astray to celebrate his PB in Kanturk of all places.
Why Kanturk?
Only Derek’s Marathon 2017 bus crew know
the answer.
WAC excelled in their race preparation and
execution. Well done to them.
Special thanks has to go to Anna, Danny,
Donie, Edwin, Eugene, Gillian, Kathleen, Louise and Mark, we are truly grateful
for your generosity of spirit to support us.
If Carlsberg did clubs, they’d be Midleton
AC.

Dungarvan10
Well our new most popluar 10 mile race has
arrived.
The quick sellout of the Dungarvan 10 in
hours saw only 60 Midleton club members get that lucky willy wonka golden
entry.
On Sunday next, we head to Co Waterford,
home to Ester, who sadly heads for the Kingdom next week
(We wish her well and hope to visit in a
running capacity)
It’ll be a case of trains, buses and
automobiles getting there, but we will arrive with our Donie training completed
and we”ll give it our best shot.
Many are peaking in their fitness and ready
for road while others are winging it. But we’ll all arrive at the finish.
While we wish everyone luck and extra pep
along the way, we particulary want to wish our newest members who run with the
club for the first time.
We will have our supporters along the way
to egg you on.
Wear your singlet with pride.

Just wondering will Dungarvan ever manage to replace these

This is now due but of course you can register at any time during the year but from now on you must be registered to be insured for training with the club and for races. It is only seventy euro for the year which covers all AAI races and all official club training sessions.
There are instalments available if required (please just ask any committee member ) and special rates for full time students and unemployed members etc.
A great race by a great club and well worth supporting but its just a pity that they do not have an O/60 O/65 women and women's cat. prizes drop after O/50 etc Danny
