WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Cross Country East Cork Championships

Sinead O'Driscoll 2nd overall and 1st O/35

What we lacked in numbers we made up for in quality with some very fine running from all our runners. Sinead O'Driscoll running her first race in months and coming back after injury had a great run coming 2nd overall and 1st O/35. Eileen Leahy solid as always had a very fine run despite having to discard her spikes half way around. Edmond O'Sullivan also just back from injury and not having run in a few weeks ran very well and may be in the medals.
It was a wonderfully organised event by St Nicholas AC and the conditions were ideal. A big thank you also to all our supporters who turned out as well.

Training Updates

We had a fine crowd at training on Wednesday evening in the Community Centre where Declan Dorgan put us through our paces. We had four different nationalities taking part and new membership is continuing to increase at a pace with lots availing of our Special Offer of Membership for 25e for four months whilst other organisations are charging 100e for a nine week c2 5k.

Monday we have one Monday @6pm left in Market Green then we move to the All Weather Hockey Pitch in Midleton College.

Thursday Thursday's @ 9pm @ Co Op Stores is once again proving a great success.

CROSS COUNTRY UPDATES
Reminder of County Novice Cross Country on 6 October in Churchtown (NEAR Buttevant). I will be doing the entry on Wednesday, 25 September, so please let me know before then if you would like to be entered.  Thank you.Sally: 0872265857

ALSO

The East Cork's are on next weekend. You do not have to let Sally know about this but just turn up but it would be helpful to let her know if you could. This would be an ideal event to start with and see if you like it. Often runners who are average on the road find they excel in cross country. So please do give it a try. Its a sport where every runner country no matter how far back you are and its only out the road in Castlelyons.

Glen Of Aherlow Half Marathon

Saturday saw two of our members do the Glen Of Aherlow Half Marathonthey were Mike Hallahan and Barry Williams. Barry had a great run getting himself a new PB. Mike also had a very good run.

Women's Mini Marathon

We saw some very fine running here today with Vicki Spiteri finishing seventh overall and Sheila Buckley just outside the top ten and coming 2nd O/35.

I know we had others there too including Caroline Cashman and her daughter but with the huge crowd it was impossible to see everyone.

Cross Country News

Call for Stewards & Assistance for Mini-Marathon, Sunday next, Septermber 22nd

Next Sunday's Mini-Marathon is THE *MAJOR* source of funding for Cork Athletics County Board.

Without the proceeds of the Mini-Marathon, the Board could not afford any subvention at National Cross-Country Championships. Nor would it be possible to fund Sports Equipment Grants, Safety Equipment Grants (especially Defibrillators), Aspiring Athlete Awards, International Athlete Awards, etc....the list is extensive.
We are not in the business of making money, BUT, the funding from the Mini-Marathon is, literally, our life-blood and is absolutely vital to ALL our activities.

The Board is still seeking volunteer stewards & assistance to help out on Sunday. It will take just a few hours of your time.
So...Please help on Sunday. With an 8,000 entry limit, we are looking at our biggest entry for several years, so will need all help we can get.
