MUNSTER INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Great results for our club today in the Munster Indoor Championships where Rod Scanlan won GOLD in the 800m and Dinny McLean took SILVER U23
A great result for two very hard working athletes and two really deserving winners.
More to follow when Rod gets home but I couldn't wait to share the good news.
Rod Reports
Thrilled with the M40 gold medal at the Munster Indoor championships. The race started fast, the first 200m in 32secs and then it slowed down a bit for lap 2 and 3. I was in 3rd place overall coming up to the final 60m and managed to take 2nd place overall and 1st place in M40 age group at the line. Equalled my PB but felt very comfortable throughout so a faster race the next day. Nationals up next in Athlone on March 8th. Well done to Dinny for a fine race too and to take home the silver medal.
DUNGARVAN 10 Mile
A great day for running with the weather just right saw an absolutely fantastic days racing in Dungarvan. Fearghal Curtin gave a lesson in how to do it coming home in an incredible time of 47.42.
All our own runners did very well with our first man home Darren Ahern 63.17 followed by John Ahern 64.38 and a brilliant run by Mark Cronin getting a new PB of 64.44.
Our Ladies did equally well with a superb run by Sinead Falvey of 68.04 getting a PB and breaking the 70 min barrier for the first time and that was running within herself due to injury. Dee Duran followed her with a great run also of 69.28 very closely followed by Kathleen Ryan in 69.36 (Chip Times)
Our Ladies Team finished 5th overall. The highest position in many years. With Sinead Falvey 68.14, Kathleen Ryan 70.08 and Dee Duran 70.14 Note I have not made a mistake in the times the first set are Chip Times and the second set are Gun Times. ( race team places are normally decided by Gun Times)
Dee got a PB by 2 min and it was Kathleen's first 10 miler. Superb running ladies
A great day out for the club and so well organised by West Waterford AC as always.
Anyone else with PBs or have stories to relate please What's App me I would be delighted to hear from you.
Others who got PBs include Loveness Hegarty, Nathalie O'Connell, David Curtin (by 3min)
NEWSFLASH News just in John Cashman 3rd O/60. We all knew that John had a brilliant run today but this is the icing on the cake to come 3rd in his category and so soon after his return from injury. Hopefully its the start of a very successful 2025 for him. We are all delighted for you John. Well done
