Weekend Runaround

County Senior Cross Country Championships

In glorious sunshine, with a summer picnic atmosphere, Carrigadrohid saw 2 MAC athletes taking part in the county cross country seniors ladies, Sinéad O'Driscoll, and seniors men, Edmond O'Sullivan, both longer than usual, with 6k for the ladies and 7.5k for the men. Sinéad found her pace quite quickly and moved up the field to hold her place all the way through the punishing final lap. What a return to cross country after almost 2 years out due to hamstring trouble.

WEEKELY RUNAROUND

Rosie Wins Her First Race

Shannon Ballroom 5Km Causeway

Huge congratulations to Rosie Young who won her first race ever on her home turf of Causeway, Co Kerry this morning. I have no doubt it will be the first of many. Well done Rosie we are all proud of you.

Berlin Marathon Calling

Tony Murray ventured to Berlin once again only this time he was carrying an injury but decided to give it a go anyway. The heat there was seemingly unbelievable reaching almost 30 degrees which made it very hard going even for spectators as Sharon his No 2 supporter says. He finished in 4.15.30 which considering everything is a fine time.

On Saturday Tony ran a 5km with his No1 supporter Brian his son who was making his international debut. Well done Brian you did us proud.

LADIES MINI MARATHON

Sunday noon saw the Ladies Mini Marathon take place with a huge crowd of over 5,000 taking part. The vast majority were walkers but we saw some great running as well with Niamh Allen who won the Midleton 5 being an easy winner here also. We had a nice number of runners taking part and all had fine runs. Dee Duran was our first lady home with a very fine run.

The race was well organised but there was not a large number of club runners running. It's not the easiest race for runners with so many walking. Well done to Nathalie O'Connell who organised the Women In Sport Midleton AC group. Apologies to all those whose photos I missed.

TRAINING

Training continues as usual on Monday with a hill session and the Cricket Field is also available for those wanting to do their own sessions.

Wednesday sessions continue with Edmond at 6.30 outside the Co Op Market Green. There was a great crowd there last Wednesday. All levels catered for and all welcome.

C2 5K also continues Wednesday suitable for beginners or those returning to running.

East Cork Championship Cross Country

Individual Gold and Silver for Sinead Falvey

GOLD Masters and Silver Senior Team

Another great day out at the Cross Country in Ballynoe on Sunday morning. On a day that started very wet "Cross Country weather" as they say The day changed just at the start and it turned into a lovely morning.

We had five ladies out there and one man. Our five ladies Sinead Falvey, Nathalie O'Connell, Eileen Leahy, Meadhbh Campbell and Melanie Etienne gave it their  all, working well as a team the came away with Silver medals in the Senior Section and GOLD in the Masters whilst Sinead Falvey won Gold in the Masters and took Silver in the Seniors being narrowly beaten by a young lady less than half her age.

Ger O'Regan our sole male runner had a really great run to finish 2nd O/50 and take the Silver.

Well done to all who ran and those that came and supported a big thank you.

Big thanks also to St Catherines AC for organising and hosting such a fantastic day.

Tralee 10Km

3rd Lady for Rosie and 1st O/60 for Neilus

We had two runners in the Tralee 10Km on Saturday morning also. Neilus Aherne who had a might run finishing 1st O/60 and Rosie Young who had really trained for this one even sacrificing her beloved cross country for it. It all paid off when she finished 3rd Lady overall with a great battle for the last one and a half kilometres which Rosie won out in the last 200m (speed training pays off) to take the 3rd place.

Well done Neilus and Rosie.

Kilkenny Medieval 10Km

We had two runners here on Saturday morning Brigid Ryan and Caitriona McGregor and both had fine runs with Brigid especially happy to be running over the familiar streets of her home town

Best of luck to all racing this weekend. We have runners in Kerry, Kilkenny, Charleville and the Cross Country in Ballynoe.

East Cork Cross Country Championships are on Sunday next in Ballynoe and all are welcome. Just turn up or give me a call 0872403940. If you are not running please come and support.
