A Sport Psychology workshop will be held on Monday 18^th April in CIT.  The workshop will start at7.30pm in the meeting room at the Athletics Track.  The workshop is part of a series of 3 – see attached for more details.  The workshop is open to all coaches and athletes.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Great Ireland Run

Neilus Aherne had another super run yesterday in awful conditions in the Great Ireland 10Km Nation Championships where he finished 4th O/60 in a great time of 39.58. With which he was of course happy out with such a good run.

Just got a text from Richard Power who completed Rotterdam (a little way behind Francis) in just over 5 hours. 

Apparently it was a warm day for a run. 

Richard was back in long distance training shortly after his first marathon, which was Dublin last year. So well done to him.

Francis had a fine run of 3.15 approx. especially since he was ill the day before but unfortunately not near the time he hoped for and deserved.

CANCELLED/CANCELLED/CANCELLED

Both Cobh 4 Mile and 10 Mile have been cancelled as has Round 1 of the East Cork Championships in Youghal.
One has to give full credit to the organisers of Cobh with making the right decision and putting the safety of athletes first. Many of the athletes would have been happy to run but Cobh put their safety as a priority and I am sure that will be rewarded when hopefully they will get another date by us coming out in greater numbers.

Please pass the word around about Youghal especially amongst the Juveniles . Thanks Danny

Rotterdam Marathon

The best kept secrets always come out. It has been kept quiet but I know everyone in the club really wishes Francis Maunsell the absolute very best in the Rotterdam Marathon tomorrow Sunday. Have a great one Francis you well deserve it after all the hard work. Danny

Ballintotis Runaround

The annual run around the Ballintotis course is on once again this year at 7pm next Thursday evening 14th April. Once again we have kindly been invited as a club by John Cashman to run the route and meet for a cuppa after in the hall. T


 

 

 

The big race in Cork this weekend is of course the Great Island 10 mile in Cobh. This is on Sunday morning the10th of April at 10:30am. You can enter the 10 mile on the day for €25 (4 mile €15). All proceeds from this race go towards the Irish Cancer Society.

IMPORTANT TRAINING NOTICE

Hi all,

For health and safety reasons, Monday night training will continue to be held at Midleton College Hockey Pitch (6-7pm) until further notice, as the Cricket field is still too wet to use for speed work.

As previously advised, this week, training moved from Wednesday for all groups to Tuesday 6:30-7:30pm outside the Community Centre.

Midleton 5 Launched

The Midleton 5 (Joe Hourigan Memorial) Road Race was officially launched in Market Green on Wednesday evening. The launch was attended by our premier sponsors Gavin Power representing Market Green, John Murphy representing Murphy's Pharmacy.

 

 

 

 
The other premier sponsors who could not attend on the night were O'Brien's Garage, Midleton,The Elm Tree Glounthaune, McCarthy Investment Services Cork and Walsh's Carpets and Flooring Midleton. Speaking at the launch Mark Walsh Race Director said we were delighted to receive such excellent support from these and all our sponsors.

“Fifty Years On The Run”

 

Midleton AC starts off its celebrations of Fifty Years in existence with the Joe Hourigan Memorial Five Mile Road Race on Thursday 5^Th May at 8pm.

This, traditionally, is one of the most popular races on the local scene and was voted the “Race Of The Year” by readers of the Cork Running Blog in 2013 - the last time such a poll was held. This is the thirty third running of the five mile race which was named after a very popular local runner, Joe Hourigan, who passed away in 1999. Each year the first athlete home is presented with the Joe Hourigan Memorial Trophy which was donated to the club in his honour by his wife Angela. The race caters for all levels of runners, from the serious runner to the fun runner and is run over a very popular local circuit which does not contain any serious hills.

This year, to mark the special occasion of the club being in existence for fifty years, there will be a special commemorative t-shirt for the first eight hundred entries. This is a unique chance to obtain this very special memento, and all for the cost of the entry fee which still remains at just ten euro. This has been made possible by the support and sponsorship of local businesses. A full range of prizes will be available with prizes for the first five ladies and five gents and then 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd in all the usual age categories, plus a huge range of spot prizes.

This year, the race headquarters will be located in Market Green Centre which is easily accessible from all directions, has excellent car parking facilities and is only a few hundred metres from the race start. The post-race reception, for which Midleton AC is renowned, along with the prize giving, will also take place here.

Entries will also be taken in Market Green on the evening of the race from 6pm onwards and runners will also have the opportunity of entering online by going to www.itsyourrace.com  ( Online entries close Tuesday 3rd May. Entries on the night from 6pm) The race will have chip timing with results available at the Market Green and online almost immediately after the race.

The Midleton Club was formed in 1966 and has been in existence ever since with the usual highs and lows associated with running. At present the club is experiencing a boom in membership and is one of the largest clubs in the county. It is also one of the few clubs to have a thriving Juvenile Section which boasts numerous All Ireland Champions. The senior section also has several All Ireland Champions and has had Olympians amongst its members in the past. The current membership consists of all levels of athlete, from the fun-runner to the more competitive and all are welcomed and catered for by our experienced coaches, which include former Olympian Donie Walsh.

The advice and encouragement available from the club members is second to none and is available to all free of charge. Membership costs only seventy euro and is without doubt the best value around. It provides one with two evenings a week training under a qualified coach, plus the opportunity to join in several of the weekend runs that are organised by the members themselves. Another huge advantage is that by joining the club you become a member of AAI (Athletics Ireland) and are covered by insurance whilst partaking in club training. Membership is available at any time during the year and is open to all levels. Anyone wishing to join can avail of a free training session before committing.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

UCC Carmel Lynch Memorial 10Km

This race took place on Sunday in fine conditions and with the rain holding off made it a grand day for running. We had as usual a fine crew out  all having some great runs. Our first man home was Noel O'Regan having a very powerful run and our first lady was Esther Murphy. We had one prize winner with Marie Gillman taking 1st O/50 whilst several of our other runners would have collected prizes if they had been registered with BHAA in time most notably Mark Walsh who took first O/55 in a sprint finish but didn't qualify for the prize but will next time out. The afters were of the usual UCC very high standard.

Training Update

Hi all,

Please note the following changes due to take place with regard to training:

Monday:

We will remain at Midleton College hockey pitch for next Monday, April 4th at the usual time of 6-7pm.

From the following Monday, April 11th, we plan to move to Midleton College cricket field at the same time 6-7pm.  As it's Easter break, we have been unable to confirm this with the school, but we will let you know if there is any change to this plan.

If you have not attended this speed session before, be assured that it caters for all levels, and under the guidance of coach, Donie Walsh, is sure to bring you on.
Wednesday:

Wednesday training for both the 6-7pm and 7-8pm groups will move to Tuesday at 6:30-7:30pm, starting next week (Tuesday, April 5th ).  We will meet outside the Community Centre where coach, Edmond O'Sullivan will do a warm-up session, followed by a run catering for all levels.

UCC 10Km Sunday April 3rd

The Carmel Lynch Memorial takes place at 11am on Sunday April 3rd. This is a very popular race so be sure to arrive early. The headquarters is a UCC Gateway Building at the end of the Western Road. Full details athttp://corkbhaa.com/races/ucc/
The next race on the Cork BHAA calendar is the UCC Carmel Lynch 10k race on Sunday Apr 3 at 11am. Registration takes place as usual at the Western Gateway Buildings from 9.30am where the old greyhound track was. You should be registered by 10.40am to allow time to get across the start line. Similar to last year, the race will start outside the Mardyke Gym but the finish will be slightly different. You will enter the car park off the Straight Rd and finish behind the Kingsley Hotel. This will be highlighted at the race briefing and well stewarded.
