Cross Country Start Times
For those who were wondering as to why we could not give exact start times for the Cross Country Races last weekend (or any weekend) This is simply because it is dependent on what time the previous races finish.
The start time for the first race is usually set but the following races are then dependent on the completion of the previous races and so may be early or late starting ( depending on how slow/fast the last runner is).
So it is best to arrive early and be prepared to wait a little while rather than missing the start.

Hi all,
Midleton AC held their open night on Wednesday
19th September. There was a great turn out of existing and potential
new members.
Our Ladies captain Sally Drennan hosted the
night and introduced speakers.
First up was Vincent Connolly who spoke
about his 20 week beginner’s class. This class will begin on Wednesday 26th
September at 6pm in Midleton Community centre. This class is aimed at complete
beginners who are new to running.
Our Men’s captain Edmond O Sullivan had a
few words of advice to all intending new members about how to approach training
and to stay injury free. Ladies captain Sally Drennan outlined the clubs
intention to promote cross country. If you are interested in doing cross
country please contact Sally.
Sally also spoke of her delight that in a
recent report, Midleton AC was confirmed as having the highest number of
members in the county. “We are surely
doing the right things as the club thrives with new membership”
It was great to see a lot of our existing
members make the effort to come out and support the night. Our own physio and
Injury expert Nelius Aherne was there to offer his services. His services range
from helping you back from injury with a good rub in his treatment room,
followed by a creamy pint in his newly opened pub in Mogeely. Whichever helps
you more is up for discussion. Rumour has it that alcohol is the new
anti-inflammatory.
Club registrar Danny McCarthy outlined the
process of joining the club. He advised people to try it out for 2 weeks and if
it suits then to join up. Judging by the
numbers of new people, Danny looks like he’ll have a busy few weeks ahead. Club
membership is only €30 until December 2012.
As the clubs clothing officer, Claire
Fitzgerald discussed the official club training gear and how the club
subsidises almost 50 % of clothing. All items can be purchased from Claire.
Just a reminder regarding training,
Beginners class will commence on Wednesday 26th September at 6pm in the Midleton community centre.
Intermediate training will be held at 7pm. Training on Monday nights will be
held in the hockey pitch in Midleton College at 6pm.
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank everyone who volunteered on the night and making it a huge success.
Marc Dalton

Race Reports:
Inch Mount Uniacke 5k
On a lovely evening in Inch they laid on a
tough 5k from all accounts, our first man home was Noel O Regan in a time of
18:03 followed closely by Tom Cody and Dan Horgan.
Our First lady was Michelle Kenny who seems
to be coming back to good form lately followed by Mary O Keeffe, also good run
by Mags Twohig.
Dingle Half/Full Marathon
Well
done Don O Callaghan who came home in 3:37 followed closely by inform Margaret
Jones 3:38 in the full marathon on what is a very tough course, this puts them
both in a good place leading up to Dublin. They were joined by Mary O Mahony
and Mary Toher who both had good performances.
Helen Gilroy came home in 1:41 in the half
marathon to win 3rd 0/45 followed closely by training patner Sheila
Buckley and Denis Kelleher . Good runs were also had by Colette Barry, Sinead
Ivers and Bernie Twomey.
Grenville 5K for Autism
First home was local man Marc Dalton in a
time of 17:37 followed by Tom Cody who dipped just below the 19mins and just
ahead of local man Kieran Mulcahy, hot on his heels was Francis Maunsell and new
boy Paul Spiteri. Good to see Declan Dorgan is back fit again.
First lady honours goes to Michelle Kenny
followed by local girl Shelia Buckley and inform Anna Dorris and Helen Gilroy,
Susan Delaney. Great to see local lady Sally Drennan and Breda Cahill back on
the race scene again.
Cork Half Marathon
Just
after his weekend in Galway for the Half Ironman, Aj Murphy sets a new PB by an impressive 6 minutes
coming home in a great time of 1:20:52. Following him home was Marc Dalton in 1:23:32,
Kieran Mulcahy in 1:27:00 and steadily improving Emmett Ronin. Good runs were
had by Don O Callaghan, James Moore, Paul Kierans, Mark Walsh, Michael Geary,
Brian McCarthy and Ken O Keeffe.
Anna Doris led our ladies home with a fine
run of 1:37:20, she was followed home by Helen Gilroy, Sheila Buckley, Christine
Murphy, Mary Walsh, Eilish Walsh, Marian Cotter and Mary Toher.
We have yet to receive any news on medals
but we think there is a few on the way for the ladies and we hope the lads
brought home a county medal on the day too.

Denis Kelleher won the 0/45 cat in this
event in a time of 1:31:49.

Blarney Half Marathon
Well done to all who completed this race today under very changeable conditions ranging from rain to heat/humidity to windy in places.
To date our only prizewinner is Anna Doris who got 3rd O/40 (and hopefully a county and Munster medal).
We had some really good runs there today I will post the full results as soon as they are to hand but a special mention must be made of our first three ladies home Anna Doris, Helen Gilroy and Sheila Buckley each experienced serious difficulties from very early on in the race and whilst others would have dropped out or slowed down these ladies battled on knowing this was a championship race and each did their club proud .
Well done to all from the club who competed and also to those who came out to support us.

There is as usual an excellent preview of next Sundays Half Marathon course available at http://corkrunning.blogspot.ie/ and whilst you are there please scroll down to the next post and see club sizes for the county. It is also worth noting that Midleton AC also has a juvenile section which many others do not.
Runners in Sundays Half Marathon PLEASE NOTE this is also the county and Munster Championships Race and EVERY PLACE counts The higher you finish the better for the club ie pass the girl/man in front of you even if he/she is not in your category.
Best Of Luck to everyone.

“Well members and
new members (and soon to be members!!), the “summer” has been and gone and good
riddance too! Lets get cracking with our new club season and run off those
summer/winter blues.
CAPTAIN'S
MESSAGE
TO ALL AT MIDLETON
A.C
Firstly, the committee will convene
a meeting on Wednesday 12th @ 8pm
in O’Mearas lounge, Ballinacurra. PLEASE attend if you would like to become
involved in your club. Don’t leave it to others all the time…..if you can
help then please do! You’ll enjoy being involved…honest!
Important New Season

Hockey pitch, 6 – 7 pm, on September 17th. A sub of €2 applies to each
attendee.
2. Tuesday night training continues until September 18th, 7-8pm. No sub
applies.
3. The club open night will take
place on the following night,Wednesday, the 19th, in the community hall at
7pm. This is an informal night of chat for existing members and new members. Tea
and biscuits will be served and a few brief words will be said by committee
members to outline and explain how the club works for its
members.

all others from 7 to 8pm. A sub of €2 applies to each

Other club events to look out
for:
- Trip to international running weekend in Lanzarote November 2nd to 28th. So far 16 members have booked for this fabulous trip of a lifetime. Remember all you have to do is book your flight to Lanzarote. Once you have done that, give your details to Marc Dalton. When we have the final numbers and the accommodation booked we will finalise the club subsidy for this event. So do not delay, book that flight now!!
- Club Christmas dinner and dance …. ….this is usually held on the second Saturday of December and is a lovely fun night out for all. Again this event will be subsidized by the club.
So welcome to the 2012/2013 Midleton
Athletic Club season. Don’t forget your captains’ advice – don’t over-train,
keep off the road as much as possible, wear HI-VIZ if it is anyway dark
and…ENJOY the company of your club colleagues.”
