3Km in Conna

A 3km race takes place in Conna this evening at 7.15 in aid of St Vinvent De Paul. Always great fun.

Report On The Waterford Half Marathon from Claire Fitzgerald

An early start on the road at 7.45 got us into WIT grounds for 9am. It was perfect conditions for the WAC half, cool and sunny and no wind.

All credit goes to WAC for another superbly organised race. Midleton AC members arrived in force and thankfully, so too did Christine Murphy!

Sinead Kevany was the first Midleton athlete to arrive home finishing 5th overall female athlete in a time of 1'24.A remarkable debut in this longer event.

Tim Hannon was our first male home in a PB ( by 8 minutes!) In 1'25, Mike Cremin trailed Tim in a time of 1'26. Mick Murphy had an outstanding race 1'28 (beating last years time).Ger O’Regan followed in 1'31

Helen Gilroy was our next female home in 1'32. Francis Maunsell happily trotted at the start, at the three mile mark he went into turbo and the dust rose from the road. He galloped home in 1'34. Sean O’ Sullivan was next to arrive through the gantry in 1'36, as John Cashman followed in close pursuit  in 1'37 with David Cody hot on his tails in 1'38. Brian Cott as usual romped home in 1'37, just 4 weeks after starting training again. Never underestimate the phenomenon of Brian.

Ester "I loves me county" Murphy edged home slightly ahead of the  Midleton AC calendar girls Yvonne, Mags Jones and Louise all  in 1'41. Claire fitz finally arrived over the line in 1'44 with Coach Mark Walsh. In fact Mark got Youghal AC/ Galtee runners over the line too in a last mile of 7'12.

Breeda Sheedy was just ahead of Colin Garde in 1'46. Well done also to Maurice Ring in 1'48.

Cool as a breeze, Christine Murphy's  late lie in earned her a time of 1'51. Well done to Alan Morley who crossed the line in 1'53.

Sprint of the day goes to Siobhan Murphy who passed at least 8 runners up  the final furlong in a deserved 1'54.

Katherine Connor, another County native and relative new member in 2017 is proving herself, beating her last half by 2 mins. A strong runner with a lot of potential, I've no doubt will be smashing these times in the future. Bernie Twomey’s recent injuries didn't stop her performing in a time of 2'03. Bernie has the full array of WAC hats, I think at this stage.

Michael MC  Namara  another runner who is a collector of these sought after hats, waved and smiled coming in 2'04. Well done to one of our newest members Mark Fuller who followed after Michael in 2'05.

The happiest finishers in a time of 2'14, judging by their photo smiles were Karen Knowles and Claire Parker.

Mary B Walsh finished very strong  in  2'23. Hampered by a persistent foot injury, this is a great feat.

Our final athlete was Caroline Cashman in 2'23. Caroline put in a Trojan effort for the last mile and her brother and club are exceptionally proud of performance.

Well done all.

We don't know how Edwin did it, but he managed to be at every crucial part on this course. THANK YOU EDWIN.
