As you will have probably all heard by now, we had an amazing day in Waterford yesterday at the National Novice cross country championships, where Sinéad Kevany ran a fantastic race to finish 2nd over all individually. She also led the Cork team to win gold. We are all so proud of Sinéad!
Making up the Midleton team were Siobhán O`Leary. Sally Drennan, Eileen Leahy, Louise Barry and Susan Fitzgerald. Although, the team never expected to win medals at this level, I think it is worth mentioning that we came 7th out of 15 teams. In a national field of predominantly young up and coming athletes, I think this is pretty good for a team of all of us at least over 40!
Individually Edwin Cashman and Ger O'Regan also ran very well and gained valuable experience on a very tough course.
The cross country season is not quite over yet! So anyone who hasn't yet plucked up courage to try it still has a chance! On 11 February the national masters championships take place. The venue is still to be confirmed, but I have heard rumours that it may be Galway. I would love to be able to have teams in both categories - over 35 and over 50 teams. So keep the date free in your diaries!
