Donations From The Club
To Two Local Very Worthy Causes

Christine Murphy Reports

Every year we make a donation to a local worthy cause from the funds that we raise from our own 5 mile road race in May. This year we chose two recipients, Kieran O’Connor (Aghada) and Ella Dempsey (Ladysbridge). Both Ella and Kieran are currently battling Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that forms in the bone or soft tissue and the treatment plan of which has lead them both to travel abroad for treatment and hence undertake fundraising activities to support them and their families through this process.

Presentations of €500 were recently made to the Friends of Kieran support group and to Ella and her family. We wish both Ella and Kieran a speedy return to good health.

In a similar vein, the club is again supporting the Irish Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event taking place in Midleton CBS over 24 hours on 24-25 August. Last years’ event was an extremely rewarding experience for all who took part so we hope to see large numbers of our club members taking part again this year. We will be looking for volunteers to fill slots in the 24 hour relay and there will be also other options to support if you are unable to attend on the day. Further details to follow shortly.”  Christine

Robbie Steele 4Mile Whitegate

What a great night we had in Whitegate at a wonderfully organised race where we had a fantastic crowd from the club supporting a very worthy cause and remembering a beautiful young man.

We came away laden with prizes. Eileen Leahy 4th Lady, Siobhan O'Leary 1st O/45,Christine Murphy 2nd O/45, Helen Gilroy 1st O/50., Marie Gillman 1st O/55, Joan McCarthy 1st O/60 and John Cashman 1st O/55.

Everyone had a great night with sadly no barbeque this year but a really great spread instead.
