Death of Mary Meagher - Blarney-Inniscarra AC and both Cork and Munster Boards
Mary Meagher R.I.P. - Condolences
January 18th 2019
The Officers and Officials of Cork Athletics County Board extend their condolences and deepest sympathy to our friend and colleague, John Meagher, along with the family and friends, on the death of our esteemed colleague Mary Meagher.
Mary Meagher of Blarney Inniscarra A.C. and Cork County AAI Board dedicated her life to athletics. That commitment was shown best at club and county level. She was also an officer at Munster level for years and an esteemed official at national level for the AAI. She has been the competition secretary for juveniles at the Cork County Board for almost 40 years and doubled up as the senior competition secretary also for many years.
Marys’ commitment to athletics was such that it is unknown if she ever had a weekend off. She built up a vast knowledge, especially of juvenile athletics, which she imparted generously to thousands of athletes over the last five decades. Indeed, many owe the success of their athletic career to her.
The long hours Mary worked at administration in Cork County has never been surpassed by anyone and unlikely to be in the future. In recognition of that, the Cork County Board last year presented her with an Outstanding Contribution Award.
Her loss to John and her family will be enormous. Her loss to fellow officers of Cork County Board is immeasurable as many officers would have found their roles impossible to carry out without her advice, drive and generous offers of help.
Cork Athletics has now a major void that will be almost impossible to fill.

The Wednesday Session
The Wednesday Session in the Community Centre at 7pm is now being coordinated by our very own Marian Aherne.
Alongside circuit training there will be exercises in strength and conditioning, core work, yoga etc advice on pacing and injury prevention all leading up to a run with fellow members at your own pre decided pace. This session is suitable for all.
Best of luck to all running this weekend we have lots of races to choose from.
Registration for 2020 is now due and must be paid before the end of Jan in order to train with the club. Its only 60e (before the end of Jan.) for the twelve months and is surely the best value around. Tom Walsh 10k Caherconlish, Co Limerick
Sinead O'Driscoll travelled to Caherconlish in Co Limerick on Sunday morning to run the Tom Walsh 10Km where she finished 4th Lady overall and 1st Lady O/40.
Cloyne 4Km
On a bitterly cold frosty morning a great crowd turned up for the Cloyne 4Km. This was race three in the series with two more to go. We had a great crowd there as always. If there was a prize for the "Best Supporting Club" Midleton AC would win by a mile. Our first lady home was Vicki Spiteri with another fine run and our first man was John Hennessy with an equally fine effort.
Well done to all who ran and to the fine crowd out from the club supporting as always..
