WEEKEND RUNAROUND
Waterford Half Marathon
Margaret Jones reports "Oh lord I hated it . New route . So many long hills with no recovery. And the sun was beating down us . Strong head wind for a few miles also . Definitely won’t do it again . Now must say very well organized but hate those water cartons as you can’t carry them . Will stick to hills in Cobh for the month"
East Cork Division 5Km Championships
The inaugural Coolagown 10Km took place on Thursday evening.
This was traditionally a 5Km but the garda would not allow them use the usual route. The new route proved challenging but fair and was superbly organised by St Nicholas AC. Full credit to Dick O'Brien and crew for a superb evening. We had a fair few runners there.
Kevin Smith making his comeback ran a super race coming home in 40min+ and Edwin Cashman also made his comeback in fine style.
Our first lady was Eileen Leahy fresh from her victory on Tuesday evening. Others who had fine runs were Amanda Cooney and Maurice Ring.

East Cork Championships
Great Success For Our Club
On a very beautiful Mid Summers evening the East Cork Track Championships took place in Carrignavar and once again our club had some great successes proving those who think we only do road running wrong once again.
Our success started with the welcome return to the track of Helen Gilroy who ran a very intelligent race to finish 1st in the Ladies Senior 1500m. This was followed by Tony Forrestal coming 1st in the Men's Senior 1500m also in this race John Hennessy came 1st O/45 and Club Captain Declan Dorgan 3rd O/45.
Next Helen Gilroy struck once again coming 3rd O/45 in the 300m and Tony Forrestal was 2nd Senior in the 300m whilst Mick Murphy took his first Championship medal with 3rd O/45.
Our success continued with what was one of the runs of the evening with Eileen Leahy having just come off a twelve hour shift and on her feet all day arrived just in time for the senior 3000m. With no time even for a warm up she controlled the race in style from the start to come home 1st and take the well deserved Gold Medal.
In the Men's 5000m again Tony Forrestal came 3rd Senior and Declan Dorgan 3rd O/45. The final event of the evening was the relay where our team of Helen Gilroy, Declan Dorgan, Eileen Leahy and Mick Murphy finished a very fine 5th.
A really wonderful evening with great credit due to Carrignavar AC for organising and to our own John Hennessy and Mike Dorney Chairman and Secretary of the East Cork Board respectively for organising also. Big thanks also due to our supporters.
