Midleton 5 Race Launch and More

A Hero's Return For Star Athletes As Midleton AC Launch Their 5 Mile Road Race

Great Race The BEST value Support local

Midleton AC members were out in force last week to welcome home their outstanding European ambassadors.

Long standing member Neilus Aherne brought home 4 bronze medals from his exploits in the European Masters Championships in Poland, whilst his club colleague Rod Scanlon ran superb personal best, clocking 2:13:42 in the highly competitive heats of the 800 meters.

Both men were féted by their club colleagues as the weekly training session got off to a rousing start, on a night that also marked the official launch of the year's Joe Hourigan Memorial Midleton AC 5 Mile Road Race which takes place on Thursday May 7th at 8pm.  Entries are now open at eventmaster.ie.
Entry is only 15e making it great value for money.
With the demise of the Ballycotton Series It is the last of the great classic 5 Mile races around and one of the only races in the country last year that was won by a lady the great Niamh Allen.

For Neilus , the recent trip to Poland proved a particular milestone in a stellar career. In the space of a few days, he won individual bronze in both the 5K Road Race and 6K Cross Country and led the Irish team to double team medals in the face of Europe's best M70 athletes.  Meanwhile, Rod is already plotting a return trip - having finished 15th in Europe in the M40 category, there is no doubt he will be back sooner rather than later to make his mark again.

Midleton AC are extremely proud of the feats of both Rod and Neilus, as club members now look forward to  a busy summer ahead on the roads, with the Midleton 5 Mile Race, the key date for the club.
