Hi All,
Congrats to all who ran in Dublin yesterday. We had around 40 members running with almost the same amount out supporting on what was a great weekend for Midleton AC. I still don't know how many actually ran , so if you did it and you would like it mentioned please drop me a quick email.
On a day that 4 members broke the 3hrs for their 1st time was a great achievement for the Club.
Also many Marathon first timers had great times. Lots of season campaigners had pb's also.
I'll do a full report on this during the week.
We have to thank all those who took time out of their long weekend to come up to Dublin and cheer all the gang along. There was cheers for Midleton AC all along the route, some lads were in 4 places throughout the race. Thanks lads, it was much appreciated.
That's what being in a club is all about.
Marathon After Party will be in Neilius Aherne's pub on Friday 2nd November . Pick up at market car park by supervalue at 8pm in a 40 seat bus.
Drop me a quick line if your going. Marc ADDENDUM I just have to add to Marc's e mail and say a huge congrats to him on his wonderful run yesterday in getting a PB and breaking the magical 3 hours ( Ryan told me say that Marc he is proud of his Dad) also to everyone else who ran most of who got PDs also but the real congrats must go to our Club supporters many who traveled up on the day to cheer us on They kept cropping up in the strangest of places and often when we most needed that cheer. Honestly we must have been the best supported club there we were centainly the best supported Cork club without a doubt.Thank ye all so much. Hope to see ye all out in Neilus's on Friday night to say thanks in person Danny

Hi All ,
As you count down the last few hours before many of you head off to Dublin a few helping tips:
Get a good night sleep
Prepare your bag, check you have everything you'll need on the day
Keep focus on something other than the marathon tomorrow afternoon ( bring a good book )
Hydrate ( very important )
Carb load tonight if possible , no point in filling your belly the night before the race and be full the next day
Stick to your pre rece meal ( try not to eat something new on the race day )
Bring some warm clothes for the start line that can disposed of quickly or plastic refuse sacks ( keeping warm is essential AND IT WILL BE COLD )
Try not to go out too hard at start and get carried away, stick to your chosen pace
Believe in your training and the time you have in mind will be a possibility
Best of Luck
Hope everyone has a good trip in Dublin. Best of luck from all the committee.
Next Friday the 2nd of November the after party for the Marathon will be held in Nelius Athene's Pub in Mogeely. All members are welcome even if you didn't run the marathon.
Bus will pick up in Midleton and drop back in Midleton from 8pm in Car park next to Supervalue where the market is held. Drop me a mail if you want to go.
For all of you not going to Dublin and interested in other races coming up Sally Drennan is looking for people to try out Cross Country.
Cross Country
Following the recent success of the Midleton AC ladies cross country team there are a few more fixtures we hope to compete at:
County Senior (incorporating East Cork senior) 4 November Carrignavar
Munster Intermediate 11 November Waterford
County Intermediate and Masters 18 November to be arranged
Munster Masters 2 December Clare venue, to be arranged
National Novice 9 December Adamstown, Co. Wexford
We are hoping to have a team at some or all of the above events. Are there any ladies out there over the age of 35 who would like to join the masters team we are trying to form?
If you are interested in any of the above please let Sally know, tel. 087 2265857 or thedrennans@eircom.net

Night with Ballycotton King,
A large contingent turned up for this unique experience to listen to Irish running legend Noel Berkley. Noel spoke about his vast experiences around the world which included Barcelona Olympics in 1992. People got an insight into how this living legend expressed his training regimes and nutrition tips.
Noel relived many of his memories of what can only be described as an incredible career. Qualifying for the Olympics to World Championships became the norm for this remarkable man. Describing himself as the Eric Cantona of Irish Athletics, Noel certainly entertained us with his stories. Running 2:15 in the marathon and being disappointed shows how much appetite this man has to being the best.
Race Reports
Cross Country
Michelle Kenny had another superb run in the Munster Novice Cross Country Championships where she finished 5th overall and 3rd scoring lady on the Cork team. Well done Michelle you did your club proud again. Team Captain Sally Drennan and Anna Doris were unable to travel today. Looks like more medals for Michelle as I’m sure she could start opening a shop pretty soon.
Orlaigh Farmer who is fresh off winning an All Ireland Medal in football won the u/23 category.
Well done Orlaigh.
Our ladies are flying this year in Cross Country.
Rebel Run:
Well done to all who turned up for Inaugural Rebel Run 10k in Bishopstown.
John Hennessy led our club home with a fantastic time of 37:19 and impressive 6th place for his last outing before heading to the Capital next week for the Dublin Marathon. Legend that is Tom Cody was next man home followed by Club Captain Edmond O Sullivan who returns to the race scene after months on the sideline. Simon Fitzgerald was next man home as his good form continues week after week. Yvonne Sheenan was our first lady home followed by Catherine Terry, Reyes Heina and Ana Cannon. Well done ladies.
Helly Hannsen Killarney
Well done Trish Daly who competed in the Helly Hanson adventure race in Killarney a few weeks ago. Seems to be a growing trend on adventure races, if I missed anyone else please let me know.
Ceili
Margaret Twohig organised a Ceili on Sunday 21st last in aid of Cancer Research and Cystic Fibrosis in CUH, a total of €980 was raised for these good causes. A raffle was held in aid Hatti and €810 was raised for this great cause.
People travelled from Longford, Dublin, Tippereary, Kerry, Clare, Waterford and Cork to support this fantastic event.
Ceili Organiser Margaret Twohig was out for almost all sets as she showed John Meade from St Finbarrs a few moves. John won the rebel run that morning, fair play to him for coming out to support a great event. See Pic
Our Club Captain Edmond O Sullivan was in flying form on the dance floor. See Pic below.
Other club members dancing too to many to name but a few were Colette Barry, Nora Savage, Denise Hickey, Tom Cody and Pat Walsh.
Lots of club members turned up in force to help out with the catering, many thanks to Colette Barry, Sinead Buckley, Ann Marie Perry, Joan McCarthy, Danny McCarthy, Ciara Baldwin, Ronan Macmanus, Denise Hickey, Vicky Cleary, Trish Macropolous, Nora Savage and Martha McNamara.
Margaret would like to thank all club members for their support and to Club Captain Edmond for his warm and welcoming speech to everyone who turned up for the occasion.
Marathon Brunch
A marathon brunch was held in Sage on Sunday 21st. This was organised by Deirdre Aherne and gave club members the opportunity to discuss the forthcoming Dublin Marathon.
Plenty of chat about PB’s and first experiences. It was a lovely morning for the last long run before tucking into a breakfast / lunch before the big day.
Beginners Class
News from the beginner’s class is that it’s thriving with new membership with an average of 30 people per night. I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to the club. Keep it up.
Well Done Vincent.
Please note thats next Wed 31st is the last day for registering. No new members will be accepted after that date so please do not bring friends along etc to try out as refusal can put them off running. They are welcome to come along (with some fittness) in late Dec or Jan. and join up for next year.

Cork to Cobh
The organisers of the BHAA Cork to Cobh 2012 were blessed again with perfect conditions for this unique race. It would be foolish to fault the organising of this event, they provided a fantastic race for a minimal fee of only €10.
The First home for Midleton AC proved to be a special one as 4 Midleton AC athletes crossed the line together in 1:38:18. Only to be separated by a finishing place, all 4 had the same time as they ran the whole course side by side. Although officially I was the 1st man home! ( Picture Above ) John Hennessy, Darragh Cannvan, AJ Murphy and Marc Dalton will all be lining up in Dublin in 2 weeks time. AJ, Darragh and Marc were the 1st 3 in the MD Insulation Team which came 3rd in the Grade A category. John Hennessey was the 1st Jannsen man home. Training is paying off as they all go in search of a PB in Dublin.
Next home was Emmett Ronnin who also goes in search of a PB in 2 weeks time. He was followed home by Kieran Mulcahy who was 1st man for the Adapt IT team which came 2nd in the Grade C category. Denis Kelleher was next man over the line. Mike Dolphin returned back to the race scene from his secret training camp in East Ferry, to post a great time before he makes his 1st journey over the 26.2 distance.
Fergal O Meara ran a PB but in the process picked up an injury which rules him out of Dublin, he might have some better luck as he plans to run London in April 2013.
Don O Callaghan, James Moore, Niall O Neill, Owen O Connell, Francis Maunsell, John McCaughey and Mark Walsh all recorded great times along this challenging route.
New member Shane Gannon recorded his first ever 15 mile race or even run over the distance. Well done also to Michael Geary, Paul Kierans, Ronan McManus, Aidan Herlihy, Danny McCarthy and Alan Kelleher who all had good runs. Danny McCarthy was 3rd man in the An Post/ Eircom team which finished 3rd in Grade C category.
Our first lady home was Anna Dorris who continues to lead out our ladies week in week out.
Next was Dublin bound Margaret Jones who is also in great form and had a great run.
Helen Gilroy was 3rd O/45 as she continues her good progress on the road to the capital.
New member Yvonne Sheehan was next as it shows Monday training is paying off. Mary O Keeffe was next followed by Aoife Fouhy and Trish Murphy who just came back in time for Dublin.
Also making the long trip in a few weeks is Bernie Twomey, she was followed home by Noreen Emmerson, Mags Twohig, Margo Broderick, Mary Walsh, Sinead Ivers. Olive Hallahan was next just before she raced home to go cycling with Nicolas Roche around Cloyne. Joy sexton, Mary Toher and Rossarrii Griffin all had good performances.
Special Thanks goes out to all the club members that were out in support along the route. Ladies Captain Sally Drennan and her family were out in Carrigtwohill with a great water station. John Carey had his oranges and water outside his house helped by son Patrick. Also we had Neilus Aherne around the 6 mile mark giving out bottled water. Plenty more along the route helped over 40 members get over the line.
Cork County Cross Country Championship 14-10-2012
Great Result For Our Ladies Cross Country Team
News from Carrignavar is that our ladies have tied for First Place with Eagle AC with each team getting 49 points but in the final result we got the Silver Medals in a countback. The scoring ladies were Michelle Kenny 4th, Anna Doris 6th ,Sally Drennan 9th and Moira Morrison 34th. This surely is a great achivement for the club. St Finbarrs were 3rd on 61 points.
Michelle Kenny was the 3rd Novice lady, she’s in great form lately.
Well done to the above and to all the other girls who ran today for the club ensuring this great victory including Mary Keane, Emer Hayes and Marie McGrath
A very special congrats must go to Sally Drennan Ladies Capt. who has toiled selflessly over the years to promote cross country in the club and when success was achieved last year she missed out through injury but this was rectified this year with a great run by Sally in coming 9th and gaining a very well deserved silver medal.
Night with Ballycotton King Noel Berkley
The club has arranged a night with Noel Berkley. This will be held in St John the Baptist National School on Thursday 18th October at 8pm. (besides where we train on Monday nights) The club is providing all Midleton AC members with a unique opportunity to get inside the brain of a former Olympic Distance runner and 6 time winner of the Ballycotton 10. This is a great opportunity for club members to learn how to improve their skills and with Ballycotton 10 looming in March, It’s a great chance to find out how it’s done by the king. The night is free to all members and €10 to non members.
Committee Members wanted
If you feel like you can help the club in any way, the club would be thrilled with your support. At present with over 240 current members, the committee are stretched to the limit and are looking for a few more volunteers. If you think it’s for you please let me know, all help is welcome.
Ceili Next Sunday 21st October
Margaret Twohig is hosting a Ceili in the Midleton GAA hall as fundraiser for the club on Sunday 21st October from 3 to 6pm. Admission is €10 if members want to go the full event, or €5 if you come after 3:30pm only.
Margaret is looking for members to Help out with the teas and coffees and sandwiches. If people can bring some food like we do at our own race. It would be very much appreciated.
Contact Margaret Twohig on: 0872094493
Well Done Maggie
Maggie Chojan very successfully completed an adventure race a couple of weeks ago. She did a
7.5 km run, followed by a 35 km bike ride, a 1.5 km kayak, 18 km run up Mount Mangerton and finished off with a 4 km cycle. She completed this in 5 hours and 54 minutes! The mind boggles! Well done Maggie!

Hi All,
Plenty of long runs being put in for the final stages of training for the Dublin Marathon coming up on the 29th October. Hope that all the niggling injuries and blisters heal in the next few weeks as we enter the taper phase. Plenty of club members spotted on various locations around Midleton early on Saturday and Sunday morning runs. With a majority of members making the annual trip to Dublin the club will be very well represented.
Cork to Cobh
The next race up is the BHAA 15 mile Cork to Cobh on Sunday 7th October. There is still a chance to enter on the day from 7:30 – 9 am at the Montenotte Hotel. The race starts on the Lower Glanmire road at 9:30am sharp. All bags can be dropped at the hotel and transported to Cobh on the day. Hopefully the weather will be kind as it has been for the last few years.
Race Reports
Charleville Half Marathon
On what can only be described as perfect conditions for a race, organisers could do no wrong as this popular event will no doubt become a permanent fixture on the racing calendar. It was a nostalgic day for native Charleville man AJ Murphy. He produced the goods again to record his second PB in as many weeks to come home in a time of 1:18 (sub 6’s) trailed home by training partner Marc Dalton in 1:19 (PB). Next home was inform Kieran Mulcahy in 1:25. It proved to be a great day for the Murphy brothers as Eoin, AJ’s brother ran his first race for Midleton AC and had a PB to finish 1:28. Francis Maunsell was our next man home followed closely by Denis Kelleher who both comfortably broke the 1:30 barrier.
James Moore was next home followed by Anna Dorris who helped James to record his PB. James would like to to thank Anna for the team work she provided to him along the way. Well done Anna, our Vice Ladies Captain has started her new role very well. Great runs from Michael Geary and Sheila Buckley who both produced great PB’s. Paul Kierans, Shaun Gannon, Ger O Shaughessy and new member Yvonne Sheehan, Eilish Walsh and Rosarii Griffin also had good performances on the day.
East Cork Cross Country
Well done to all the Midleton AC runners at the East Cork novice and masters cross country championships in Conna on Sunday.
It was fantastic to see the ladies out in such numbers. We had both novice and over 45's teams. For several of the runners it was their first cross country race ever or since their childhood. Their efforts paid off, with the ladies novice team of Michelle Kenny, Sally Drennan and Moira Morrisson taking first place and the ladies over 45 team of Sally, Mary Morrisson and Mary Keane also in first place. Individually, Michelle Kenny had an excellent run to win the novice race. Other Midleton runners who ran were Maggie Chojan, Emer Hayes and Mary Toher. Unfortunately Maggie didn't get a medal as she is out of novice this year having won the same competition last year.
There was a smaller contingent of men. John Hennessy and Stan Byczec were unlucky to just miss out on medals. Both of them ran great races.
Rosscarbery 5k
Well done again to the girl of the moment Michelle Kenny who won the Roscarbery 5k over the weekend. She is really flying at the moment. Great running Michelle, Keep up the good work.
Kinsale 5 mile
Well done to Simon Fitzgerald who was our first man home in Kinsale 5 mile, he was followed home by Annemarie O Donovan.
