Cork to Cobh

The organisers of the BHAA Cork to Cobh 2012 were blessed again with perfect conditions for this unique race. It would be foolish to fault the organising of this event, they provided a fantastic race for a minimal fee of only €10.

The First home for Midleton AC proved to be a special one as 4 Midleton AC athletes crossed the line together in 1:38:18. Only to be separated by a finishing place, all 4 had the same time as they ran the whole course side by side. Although officially I was the 1st man home! ( Picture Above ) John Hennessy, Darragh Cannvan, AJ Murphy and Marc Dalton will all be lining up in Dublin in 2 weeks time. AJ, Darragh and Marc were the 1st 3 in the MD Insulation Team which came 3rd in the Grade A category. John Hennessey was the 1st Jannsen man home. Training is paying off as they all go in search of a PB in Dublin.

Next home was Emmett Ronnin who also goes in search of a PB in 2 weeks time. He was followed home by Kieran Mulcahy who was 1st man for the Adapt IT team which came 2nd in the Grade C category. Denis Kelleher was next man over the line. Mike Dolphin returned back to the race scene from his secret training camp in East Ferry, to post a great time before he makes his 1st journey over the 26.2 distance.

Fergal O Meara ran a PB but in the process picked up an injury which rules him out of Dublin, he might have some better luck as he plans to run London in April 2013.

Don O Callaghan, James Moore, Niall O Neill, Owen O Connell, Francis Maunsell, John McCaughey and Mark Walsh all recorded great times along this challenging route.

New member Shane Gannon recorded his first ever 15 mile race or even run over the distance. Well done also to Michael Geary, Paul Kierans, Ronan McManus, Aidan Herlihy, Danny McCarthy and Alan Kelleher who all had good runs. Danny McCarthy was 3rd man in the An Post/ Eircom team which finished 3rd in Grade C category.

Our first lady home was Anna Dorris who continues to lead out our ladies week in week out.

Next was Dublin bound Margaret Jones who is also in great form and had a great run.

Helen Gilroy was 3rd O/45 as she continues her good progress on the road to the capital.

New member Yvonne Sheehan was next as it shows Monday training is paying off. Mary O Keeffe was next followed by Aoife Fouhy and Trish Murphy who just came back in time for Dublin.

Also making the long trip in a few weeks is Bernie Twomey, she was followed home by Noreen Emmerson, Mags Twohig, Margo Broderick, Mary Walsh, Sinead Ivers. Olive Hallahan was next just before she raced home to go cycling with Nicolas Roche around Cloyne. Joy sexton, Mary Toher and Rossarrii Griffin all had good performances.

Special Thanks goes out to all the club members that were out in support along the route. Ladies Captain Sally Drennan and her family were out in Carrigtwohill with a great water station. John Carey had his oranges and water outside his house helped by son Patrick. Also we had Neilus Aherne around the 6 mile mark giving out bottled water. Plenty more along the route helped over 40 members get over the line.

Cork County Cross Country Championship 14-10-2012

Great Result For Our Ladies Cross Country Team

News from Carrignavar is that our ladies have tied for First Place with Eagle AC with each team getting 49 points but in the final result we got the Silver Medals in a countback. The scoring ladies were Michelle Kenny 4th, Anna Doris 6th ,Sally Drennan 9th and Moira Morrison 34th. This surely is a great achivement for the club. St Finbarrs were 3rd on 61 points.

Michelle Kenny was the 3rd Novice lady, she’s in great form lately.

Well done to the above and to all the other girls who ran today for the club ensuring this great victory including Mary Keane, Emer Hayes and Marie McGrath

A very special congrats must go to Sally Drennan Ladies Capt. who has toiled selflessly over the years to promote cross country in the club and when success was achieved last year she missed out through injury but this was rectified this year with a great run by Sally in coming 9th and gaining a very well deserved silver medal.

Night with Ballycotton King Noel Berkley

The club has arranged a night with Noel Berkley. This will be held in St John the Baptist National School on Thursday 18th October at 8pm. (besides where we train on Monday nights) The club is providing all Midleton AC members with a unique opportunity to get inside the brain of a former Olympic Distance runner and 6 time winner of the Ballycotton 10. This is a great opportunity for club members to learn how to improve their skills and with Ballycotton 10 looming in March, It’s a great chance to find out how it’s done by the king. The night is free to all members and €10 to non members.

Committee Members wanted

If you feel like you can help the club in any way, the club would be thrilled with your support. At present with over 240 current members, the committee are stretched to the limit and are looking for a few more volunteers. If you think it’s for you please let me know, all help is welcome.

7.5 km run, followed by a 35 km bike ride, a 1.5 km kayak, 18 km run up Mount Mangerton and finished off with a 4 km cycle. She completed this in 5 hours and 54 minutes! The mind boggles! Well done Maggie!
