Belive It Or Not
Whilst on a cycle with Alan around the Midleton 5 Mile course today we came across a lady collecting rubbish in a large plastic bag.We stopped and spoke to her and she informed us that there is a big race on here next Thur night and she did not want anyone to see the rubbish on the road.
She had cleaned by hand from the 1.1/4 mile mark to the 2.1/4 mile mark over a mile of road that long stretch until we take the sharp turn left. If that is not community support to be proud of nothing is.

Hi all,
As you will hopefully be aware, our own 5 mile road race is on next Thursday, May 2nd at 8pm. Just a few important notes to make this a success:
1. Race notice: We are attaching our race notice, and would encourage you to print it and put it up on a noticeboard at work and/or distribute to your friends - your help in promoting our race will be very much appreciated.
2. Pre-registration: We would like to encourage as many of our members, and non-members to pre-register next Wednesday evening at the Community Centre from 6pm to 7:15pm. If you cannot make it, please ask someone to do it for you.
3. Stewards: Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to do stewarding on the night. We still need more stewards. Please contact Edmond on 086-8323267 if you or a friend is available.
4. Catering:
Your help is needed. Could everyone bring a plate/tray of sandwiches or cakes to Midleton GAA hall on Thursday 2nd May for our club race? Doors will be open from 5pm onwards. Your culinary skills would be greatly appreciated.
Also please put your name on your plate/tray so we can return them to you afterwards.
We cater for coeliacs – if you bring any gluten free food, please let us know so that we can keep it separated from other food – and clearly label it as gluten free.
We've always had fantastic comments about the food at our race – let’s hope it will continue this year. It's your help that makes this race such a success.
Should you have any queries regarding catering please contact Margaret Twohig on 087 2094493 or Sinead Buckley on 087 6452344 or Colette Barry on 087 9385806.
Best regards,
Sally & Edmond,

East Cork Road Racing Championships Ballynoe
Ladies Take Gold Again
Our ladies were out in strength tonight gaining victories in this tough fast course.First lady home was Michelle Kenny gaining her first championship medal in fine style followed by Sheila Buckley stepping up a place from last year and getting the silver and Karen Grant our new lady in the blocks took a very impressive bronze.
The ladies team was led home by Anna Doris who despite being ill ran a hard race she was follow home by the ever solid and consistent Helen Gilroy and the equally solid Margaret Jones. Both Helen and Margaret were on the Gold winning team again last year. These were followed by Susan Delaney and Joan Hough a previous winner. They were followed by a great run from Aoife Fouhy making her championship running debut. Amongst the other ladies who contributed to our success were Trish Murphy,Anne Marie Perry,Susan Fitzgerald,Sinead Buckley,Mary McGuigan,Margaret Barry and Mary Toher.Well done to all and a big thank you for coming out to support your club.
Unfortunately our men were not as successful despite their gallent efforts as we came 4th team. First home was solid as a rock Noel O'Regan followed by Shea Coffee having an excellent run in 31.16 closely followed by Francis Maunsell,Declan Dorgan and Rod Scanlan( Rod got a PB tonight which is some achievement on this very tough course). Paul Spiteri came next with 32.38 followed by Andre Brodkorb, David Motherway,Edmond O'Sullivan and James Moore. Most of these runners were running in championships for the first time and gained valuable experience for the future. Other Midleton men who had fine runs were Kenneth O'Keeffe,Paul Kearns and Donie O'Connell.
Well done to all especially the Ballynoe community who laid on a great spread after and the East Cork Board who managed to rally the largest crowd in many many years to the race.
Interesting Fact
The race was won by James Mc Carthy in 26.19 and he was presented with the prize by Chairman of the East Cork Board Martin Drake who also ran the race tonight but Martin won this race 20 years ago in 1993 in a time of 26.12 beating tonights winning time by 7 seconds.

Amongst the other ladies who contributed to our success were Trish Murphy,Anne Marie Perry,Susan Fitzgerald,Sinead Buckley,Mary McGuigan,Margaret Barry and Mary Toher.Well done to all and a big thank you for coming out to support your club.
First Three ladies home Michelle,Sheila and Karen
Well done to all especially the Ballynoe community who laid on a great spread after and the East Cork Board who managed to rally the largest crowd in many many years to the race.
Ladies team gold medal winners being presented with medals by Martin Drake chairman of East Cork Board Helen Gilroy and Margaret Jones (Anna Doris is missing)

Ballintotis 4 Mile Road Race
This Thursday April 18th - 8pm
Entry Desks BALLINTOTIS ENTRIES
You can enter for the Ballintotis 4-mile race at Ballintotis Community Centre on Wednesday evening between 5:30pm and 7pm and on the day of the race, next Thursday, from 1pm onwards. Just a few points to speed up the process: 1) Entry fee is €10, try and have the correct amount ready . 2) There will be a number of entry desks in the hall, it doesn’t matter which one you go to. Remember – this is NOT a BHAA race so there is no need to give company name, etc. 3) Just provide the following information: first and second name; AAI club, if applicable. If not a member of a club just give you area (i.e. Cork/Blarney/Youghal); your age category (see below). 4) If entering more than one person, write the names on the back of the numbers to avoid mixing them up. 5) Wear the number on the FRONT of your clothing, attached with four safety pins. Age categories are as follows: senior men and women (M/F); age categories in five-year groups from M40 (over 40) to M70 (over 70) and F35 (over 35) to F65 (over 65). Also junior men and women (MJ/FJ) which is under 20 on December 31st next.
Start Line
Please note we will have zoned time areas at the start line - we will be encouraging all runners to please take up their correct position. Runners will be advised to approach the start line early and follow the directions of the stewards. We will have a separate public address system in operation at the start line. With another big entry expected it is in the interests of all runners that they begin the race in the correct zone. This will help runners in all sectors of the field. By co-operating you will add to the enjoyment of the race for everybody.
Parking
The advice regarding parking is simple - please follow the directions of the Gardai and Stewards at all times. There will be a number of car parks again in operation this year, but with such mixed weather recently these may vary depending on rainfall.
Refresments/Prizes Etc
Refreshments and prizes inside in Community Centre this year - not in
Car Park Spot prizes - can be claimed afterwards inside - spot prize winners
identified on back of race numbers - no roll call afterwards!
Enjoy Your Visit
Finally, wishing you all a pleasant visit to Ballintotis, where
incidentally a camera crew from Setanta Sports will be on duty to
capture the occasion and follow the fortunes of local Ballintotis
Fit4Life Club member MaryAnne Murphy who is taking part in the "Get Off
The Couch" Series which will be aired later this year.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND
Reminders
Rotterdam Update
Word just in from an extremely hot Rotterdam has all our athletes finishing though suffering badly from the heat. Unofficial and approx times are Mick Murphy 3.40, John Carey 3.45, Peter Gunning 4.08 and Mary B.Walsh 4.40 The temp was 20+ degrees which even proved too much for the great Maria McCambridge the Irish international runner who had to drop out unfortunately.
Meanwhile in the 10Km race Bernie Twomey did around 52 mins. They are now hopefully heading off for a nice cool well deserved Heineken. Well done all.
Meanwhile it was great to see Michelle Kenny on TV in her Midleton AC vest amongst the elite athletes at the start of the Great Ireland Run also to see East Cork athlete James Mc Carthy there in the mens race. This race was extremely windy. So not the best conditions for running either in Rotterdam or Dublin
Back home in the Ballincollig 5Km Michael McNamara had an excellent run getting himself a new PB in the process and looking good for next Thur.. Congrats Michael any day one gets a PB is a good day.

A huge crowd attended this tonight and a big thank you must go to the whole Ballintotis crew who looked after us so well with tea and goodies after.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND + UPDATES
NOTICE
Training tomorrow Monday will be at 6.30 PM on grass at Midleton CBS field.
( This is for speedwork)
Duration 6.30 -7.30
UCC 10Km/Carmel Lynch Memorial Race
Men Only
Its a long while since we had a headline like that but the only prizewinner we had in todays race was Tom Cody coming 3rd O/55.We had no ladies in the prizewinners though we had several PBs. On what was a very cold day with a strong wind blowing against the runners for the last two miles saw a slower than usual race.
Our first man home was Andre Brodkorb running a great race others who ran were Michael Kenneally,Brian Healy ,Donie O'Connell and Fionan O'hAodain who made a great job of his first 10Km.
Michelle Kenny was our first lady home stepping up from her more usual shorter distances suffered like many more from the wind.Maragret Jones just back from illness came home second followed by Anne Marie Perry who is improving with every run. Amongst others who ran were Aoife Fouhy, Margaret Twohig, Annette Fitzgerald, Marian Cronin, Sheila Bullman,Marie Gillman, Louise Barry and Joan McCarthy. Apologies if I missed anyone its not intentional but a total of 530 took part. There was a superb spread after with even hot food being served.
