We had a great crew out for the HSE in the Marina Sunday morning. Over a very wet/watery course where one had to be careful of leaves and full of water potholes most did very well.I don't think we had any prize winners but it was great to see so many running well. Among those that ran were Eugene McCarthy, Mike Cremin, Paul Spiteri (pacer) Ian Kohler, Donie O'Connell, Christopher McCarthy, Brian Harty, Billy Grifffin,Sean O'Sullivan, and ladies were Kathleen O'Connell, Paula O'Sullivan Anne Marie O'Donovan, Colette Dalton and Sheila Buckley plus some more again sorry if I missed all the names.
Heading straight from there to the Cork AAI Grounds (a fantastic facility well worth a visit) in Riverstick saw some fantastic running in the Cork Senior Cross Country where our own Eileen Leahy finished 6th helping the Immokilly Team to get the Bronze position. This amazing young woman is showing such potential in her first year of serious running that she definitely is a lady to watch for the future.

A Thanks You Letter From Brian Cott

Hi all,

The good news is I finished Dublin City Marathon on Monday 27th October and I am still walking! The better news for me is that thanks to all of you for your generosity, I have managed to raise a whopping €2,739.60 through the support of work colleagues, friends and fellow runners. Your support has been amazing, thank you all so much. For this I am truly grateful.

This money is going to be split 50:50 between 2 very worthy charities –
Special Olympics Ireland
Down Syndrome Ireland, Cork Branch.

Down to the race, I finished in a time of 3:14:54, which I am really delighted about. As Danny said I was surprised… it’s one thing to have a plan but it is another thing to pull it off, and take 52 minutes off my previous and only other marathon when I was 12 years younger! Nothing is easily got, and 26.2 miles is definitely not easy. But thankfully the training paid off… (thanks Donie for the advice – it paid not to start off too fast, Hal Higdon for the plan… I was following the same plan as Anna and even though we didn’t run together as we didn’t meet at the start, we finished just 6 seconds apart…). I didn’t hit the dreaded wall, but the last 2 miles were a particular struggle. The support of everyone along the route and fellow Midleton AC club members running and in particular those team members who travelled up to support was a huge boost. It really highlighted to me how great it is to be part of a team, in particular the Midleton AC team.

Special thanks to Danny for the new nickname, “Dark Horse”. And yes, the Midleton AC vest is the best thing ever, all the shouts of come on Midleton really did help.

Some have still offered support, so you can contact me directly or via MyCharity.ie web site, http://www.mycharity.ie/event/brian_cotts_event/

Again, thank you all.
Brian

What an absolutely amazing weekend we had some fantastic runs over the weekend from Tipperary, Cork and Dublin. Starting with the Cross Country our ladies did really well unfortunately not in the medals despite great runs and packing very well with Eileen Leahy, Sally Drennan, Sheila Buckley and Helen Gilroy all finishing within a few seconds of each other. Whilst with the  men  Brian Harty had a fine day and a strong run He was  running solo for the club whilst his brother Michael went on to win the overall event. As always when you start moving up a level the standards become higher and as always we rose to the occasion.
Whilst at the Lee Fields we had great runs and PBs from Paul Fleming 31.08 and Simon Fitzgerald also got a PB and Marian Aherne had a fine run of 29.59 whilst John Cashman and Mary O'Keeffe also had great runs. A total of 259 took part more details later of other runners if they come to hand. Please remember I am depending on you to send me in the details. mdtacinfo@gmail.com

Dublin Marathon

Some absolutely amazing runs reached a fitting climax when word started coming through that some of our ladies were on the 6.01 news yesterday evening then the 9 o Clock news and today Tuesday's Irish Times and whilst all this is very nice the important thing is the running and that was amazing from each and everyone from the club that took part.
Starting at the beginning but in no order of merit our first athlete home was Anna Doris with a superb run of 3.14.48 starting to do justice to her true talent (7th Lady o/40 and 41 st woman out of a total of 3782) and she was closely followed by an amazing run by the "Dark Horse" Brian Cott with 3.14.52 surprizing everyone including himself with such a great run. Don Ryan continues to get better by the day and again got a PB with 3.17 whilst Margaret Jones showed the powerful woman that she is struggled through every porta loo on the course with her illness and still managed 3.36.41. Louise Barry and Claire Fitzgerald our "Calendar Girls" both had great runs finishing very close together Whilst Camilla O'Connor running her first marathon had a superb run with 3.49. As I said this is in no order but Denis Collins had another great run with 3.41.22 and Francis Maunsell despite a great first half came home in 3.38.03 which I have no doubt will be put to rest next time out,
Niamh Dorgan did herself justice despite her recent injury with 4.05.37 whilst the ever solid Peter Gunning did 3.40.50 and like wise the great Neilus Aherne 3.19.20. Arthur McCarthy did what he intended and took revenge on last year and broke with comfort the four hour barrier 3.49.01 assisted by Gillian Murphy who had a brilliant run also,
Esther Murphy had as always a fine solid run with 3.32.40 and her buddy Amanda Stavoru showed the benefits of "warm weather training" and did 4.29.Whilst Chris Dowdall and Paul Geary had great runs with 3.53 and 4.22 respectively . Fionan OhAodain and Aidan O'Herlihy both had solid runs but will show their true talent next time out. Dereck Aherne had a good run also in 4.33 and Alan Kelleher despite struggling with severe cramps in his legs from nineteen on also had a mighty run

Anon quote (but can be verified from one of our leading men)
" A Midleton AC vest is the best thing ever" and along with that I say the Midleton AC supporters are the best supporters ever. Those that travelled up for the weekend and those that came up on the day Andre, Sandra, Deidre, Catherine, Ciara, Helen, Sheila, Rose x 2, Sally ,Barry, Mike, Rayleen, Mike Dolphin, Mick Murphy , John Carey  ++++++++ the list can go on and on.
Every runner said "ye were brilliant and thanks" and every Cork club has come back to say thanks because we all know every shout, TXT ,cheer etc counts, So THANKS one and all. And the cry that seemed to come from all the runners was "Thank you Donie Walsh for the advice and support at training it certainly paid off.
I probably have left some few out as always but please let me know.
More details and photos later, Please send them in,
