2016 Ballintotis '4' Mile Road Race
The countdown is very much underway to this year’s Ballintotis ‘4’ Mile Road Race on Thursday April 21st, with another very large entry expected for the first big evening fixture of the season in Cork.
Registration will open for the race on 8am on Monday March 14th and participants can enter online at www.ballintotis.com until midnight on Monday April 18th. Thereafter participants may also enter in person on either Wednesday April 20th at Ballintotis Community Centre or at the same venue on race day from 1pm onwards. It is important to note that those who avail of on line option must also collect their race number in Ballintotis Community Centre on either Wednesday 20th or Thursday 21stApril at the aforementioned times. Entry fee is €10 (plus administration fee if availing of the convenient on line entry).
This year’s race will feature a very attractive list of prizes with individual prizes going to the top 6 men and top 6 women across the line. There are also 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in all categories and a host of spot prizes to be won. Both Castlemartyr Resort and Trabolgan Holiday Centre will sponsor the superb top prizes with Castlemartyr Resort offering a fantastic 1 year free membership of their magnificent Leisure Centre for the race winner and 1st female finisher. Trabolgan are again offering their highly attractive prizes of a weekend breaks for both runners up and family members. Once more we are delighted to announce that Kurki Sportswear and Market Green Shopping Centre have come on board as main sponsors. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of McCarthy & McGrath Auctioneers, Midleton each participant will also receive a free running buff.
The race is hosted annually as a fundraiser for the continued development and upkeep of the local Community Centre. It is a joint venture between Ballintotis Area Community Council and East Cork A.C with the help of Ballycotton Running Promotions. James McCarthy of the host club has a remarkable record in the event and will be bidding for a seven in a row triumph in this year’s race. Incidentally, again this year the Ballintotis ‘4’ will feature chip timing, with a timing mat located at both the start and the finish line.
After attracting a record entry of 1175 runners in 2015, it appears as if Ballintotis is set to again welcome a huge number of runners this year, for a race that has an 8pm start. For those who might fancy something a little less taxing, the traditional ‘4’ Mile Walk will as usual begin at 6.30pm. Again entry fee is 10 euro per person, but there is no line entry.
All queries concerning the Race and Walk should be directed to Race Directors -Sean Murphy and John Cashman on 086-8778182

Cloyne 4Km

A total of two hundred and fifteen runners took part in the Cloyne 4Km on Sunday and as per usual we had a great crowd out from the club. Gerard McLean was our first man home coming sixth over all in a time of 14.48 closely followed two seconds later by Mike Cremin. This was a PB for Gerard and Edwin Cashman who is improving with every race also got a new PB.

Eileen Leahy was an easy winner of the ladies race and that means she has the overall title already in he bag. There was some fine running from all our athletes and it was really great to see Rod Scanlan continue to make progress after his long absence due to injury also to see Kathleen O'Connell back in action again. Please let me know re PBs etc mdtacinfo@gmail.com

Carrigaline 5Mile

A great crowd turned out for the Carrigaline 5 Mile also on Sunday morning. We had two runners here Noel O'Regan who just used it as a training run and Christopher McCarthy who had a very fine run and was just one second off his target time so things are looking good for him to break that magic seventy in Ballycotton in two weeks time.
