BALLINTOTIS UPDATES

Counting Down -  To The Ballintotis 4 MIle Road Race On Thursday April 20th

It's is recognised as one of the biggest races of it's kind in Ireland - the Ballinttois '4' Mile Road Race and it's very much part of the early summer fixture list here in East Cork.

This year's race will take place on Thursday April 20th (8pm) and is again expected to attract a very large entry. In fact entries via the online option are steadily being received and that option remains open to participants until Monday April 17th. Thereafter, entry desks will be open from  5pm to 7pm on the evening prior to the  race and then again on race day from 1pm onwards at Ballintotis Community Centre.
The success of the event which was brought to the picturesque venue by East Cork A.C in 2010, is due to a number of factors. It's fair to say that the generous sponsorship and backing from the local business community has been a key component in it's rise and with this in mind, the local Ballintotis Race Committee wish to acknowledge again the continued backing of a number of their loyal major sponsors.
Sincere thanks to main sponsors Castlemarty Resort, Trabolgan Holiday Centre, Garryvoe Hotel, McCarthy & McGrath Auctioneers, Ballintotis Fit 4Life Club, Market Green Shopping Centre, Michael Kennedy Plant & Agri and Eurocom Technologies for their sponsorship of this year's event.
As  usual all proceeds from the race will go towards and development of Ballintotis Community Centre.

In advance of this year's race,a trial run around the course for members of local clubs will take place on Tuesday April 11th at 7pm..

In the meantime for those wishing to find out more details about the race or indeed to contribute to the race sponsorship fund/donate a prize - please call 086-8778182.

Remember this year's race will  again by chipped timed, with a mat at both the start and finish lines, whilst those who may prefer to walk rather than run are pointed in the direction  of the non competitive walk  which begins at 6.30pm.  Entry fee on the day for the run or walk costs 10 euro with all participants receiving a free buff, courtesy of McCarthy & McGrath Auctioneers. Refreshments will be served afterwards with loads of spot prizes to be won together with the usual overall and category race prizes

So please join us in Ballintotis on April 20th - for the race that was voted "Best 4 Miler in Cork" in 2016.

Miah McGrath of McCarthy & McGrath Ltd Auctioneers Midleton presents a sponsorship cheque to John Cashman Ballintotis Race committee at this year's race launch.  Included are members of the organising committee Tom O'Neill, Michael Ryan, Jean O'Gorman, Kevin Cronin - Chairman B.A.C.C and Ger Broderick.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Running On Holidays

Olympia Half Marathon - Maire 4th lady home and 1st in age category, great running on hot hilly course. I was called up for the 3rd lady prize but they wouldn't hand it over - eventually had to settle for 3rd in my age category. Words to the wise - half marathons and holidays do not mix. (report Eugene McCarthy)

Mallow 10

Some thrived in it some died in it but the heat today played a major part in todays race.
Mostly times were down in Mallow today with a winning time of over fifty three minutes where it was wonderful to see local East Cork man Michael Harty have a great victory.
We luckily had some fine runs from the club with Sinead Keavney having a great run to break the sixty five minute barrier and run faster that she did in Ballycotton finishing 5th overall and 1st O/40. Our first man home was Kevin Smith who continues to improve with every race and he was closely followed by Fionan O' hAodin who suffered a little from the heat. Well done to all who ran and apologies to anyone whose photo I missed.

Training

Update from coach Edmond O'Sullivan

The clocks go forward this Saturday so training can move outdoors on next Wednesday 29th. Venue ( Community Centre) and time ( 6.30 to 7.30) remains the same but we will not be using the hall.
There will be a warm up run followed by basic stretches before we head off in groups. The indoor winter strength and conditioning work is done so now we can concentrate on pace-runs/hills/fartlek/intervals/recovery runs. So spread the word amongst your training/run partners and build this club training session into your spring/summer training programme”.
