Ballycotton 10 "Done And Dusted"
Well done to everyone who ran today. Once again we had some brilliant running from our members with lots of PBs . Our first man home was Shane Fitzgerald Foley in a time of just a few seconds over the 60 min mark whilst our first lady was Sinead Keavney (4th O/35) who was just over 66 min.. We had some prize winners also with Helen Gilroy 3rd O/50, Neilus Aherne 3rd O/60 and Donie O'Connell 2nd O/65. Sadly for Donie he was not there to collect his prize on his first occasion of winning one in the Ballycotton 10. Donie and Kathleen who have attended the results/prize giving for as long as anyone can remember were unavoidably detained today.
Also a very special "Well Done" to last October's C2 5K group several of who went on to complete Ballycotton 10 in flying style.
Thanks to Kathleen O'Connell for the above photo's
Message From Club Captain Claire Fitzgerald
It gives me pride, in my first year as Captain, to wish all Midleton athletes competing in the 40th Anniversary Ballycotton race 2017 this Sunday, the very very best of luck.
The journey to Ballycotton is woven between psychological and physical graft. Completing this race is a runners salute from our 'couch to 5k' to our elites.
From those who have a trophy collection, to those who aspire to get their first Ballycotton mug, there will be no greater pleasure than to join the 'Ballycotton ten' club for the first or 33rd time.
As one of the bigger athletic clubs competing this year, let's pull each other along.
From myself and the Midleton AC committee, we look forward to seeing all of our runners for the club photo at 12.45pm at the cliff and for the afters in the Maple Leaf at 8pm.
Run like the wind and enjoy the experience!
Claire fitzgerald
Club Captain
Do's and Dont's
Make sure you do not go too fast (or too slow) on the first two miles because that is where the race is won and lost.
Please do not run more than two or three abreast as this may impede runners trying to pass you.
Wear your club colours with pride and remember your club is proud of you from the fastest to the slowest. We all together make Midleton AC one great club. Danny
Baggage Area
A new baggage area will be set up near the Pitch & Putt club for the 2017 Ballycotton 10 race next Sunday. This will avoid the use of the narrow path which caused problems last year.
You will be given a plastic bag with a number at the baggage area. Get changed....put your tracksuit, etc in the bag....and then collect it after the race. It's a long way from the car parks to the start so you'll probably want to avail of this service.
BAGGAGE AREA AND TOILETS - NEW LOCATION
The baggage area and main toilet facilities have been relocated this year. Both are now up on the Cliff Road near the Pitch & Putt Club. Access is slightly different.
The main road at Bayview Hotel will be closed off at 12.15pm and athletes’ will be directed to the baggage area and come down into the start/finish area approaching from the back. You should add at least 15 minutes to the normal time you take to get to the start as it is at least 500m longer and the paths are narrow. Please be patient and obey the stewards
At the end of the race you will be directed up the Cliff Road again as water station, baggage area, etc are located here. You can then make your way back to the changing area using the same route in the reverse direction.
REMEMBER TO ALLOW 15 MINUTES EXTRA TO MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE START!
Midleton AC will also have its own storage car (thanks to Donie and Kathleen O'Connell) situated at the Cliff Car park where we have had it for many the year.
Bus to Ballycotton 10
The bus will leave Tesco Car Park at 11am and also do a collection at Lakeview ( across the road from the Service Station) at 11.15. Cost is 5 Euro and there is only one space left so please contact Louise or Sally immediately.
If you are taking the bus PLEASE be on time. The organisers have extended their thanks to the club as taking a bus is a great help with the parking.
The Afters
Don't forget the after's party in the Maple at 8pm on Sunday night. All members and friends welcome whether you ran or not. Finger food will be served.
The Blog.
We would be delighted to receive any reports or photo's of the race for the blog. Remember they must be e mailed to mdtacinfo@gmail.com
We will not be accepting Whats App, Viber,Texts etc. except in very exceptional circumstances. Thanks for your help. Danny
