Cork City Marathon
A Day Of Highs and Lows

Ger McLean Reports

It's hasn't  been a great year for me running with injury after injury but absolutely delighted with my time today in the Cork marathon 3.12 Thanks for all the support from Midleton ac, what a great club. Running past a group of Middleton ac lady's on this part of the course the support was so good I wanted to turn around and pass for a second time. Also a big thank you to Danny Mc Carthy for all the support and photos along the course and Siobhan Murphy at roundabout before the tunnel, not many people that far out. Roll on Dublin,

Lego Heads
The Lego Runners had a brilliant Cork Half. Came I under 1:50. The Lego Heads were like a sweat box but there's not much in our ceanns anyway so no fear of damage there. The support and buzz on the route was superb. Genuine smiles, high fives and cheers spread the whole way. Well done Sunny Cork! The Midleton Vests were shining bright all around. Well done to all the Midleton participants and supporters today. Well represented at our Rebel big day. Thank you to all for your support, praise and encouragement. With it, we have raised over €1500 which will go to helping the Children's Leukaemia Association better the care of sick children and their families. On behalf of the CLA, myself and Nigel ,Mìle , Mìle buíochas. Thanks to Mick Murphy for the photo.(My son Callum got in on the action too. Future star.:-))

Photo's are not in finishing order but it really was a day of highs and lows. Well done everyone who ran and glad that some achieved the times they deserved and worked for and sorry for those who also put in the work and didn't get what they deserved. Once again the famous marathon slogan proves itself true "It's all on the day". Reports in has Morgan O'Regan as our first man home at 3.05. Fionan OhAodain got a new PB with 85 mins. also Alan Morley knocked over five mins off his PB. Paul Geary and Kevin Moran both got PBs as well.
Huge congrats to Marian Aherne and Breda Sheedy who made their marathon debuts in great style also debutant Edwin Cashman.
Neilus Aherne had a great run to win 1st O/60 in the Half Marathon.

Thanks to Siobhan Murphy for the above photo's

Thanks to Claire Fitzgerald for the above photo's

Hi All,
Please forward me your Marathon, Half Marathon and Relay reports.Your club mates really do care about how you do and I cannot possibly know every ones PBs, pains, struggles, joys etc so do send me any stories, photo's and I will only be delighted to put them up here for your fellow runners to share. Please e mail to mdtacinfo@gmail.com as it makes life much easier for me to upload from email especially on a busy weekend like this. Best of luck to each and every one of you and all runners taking part. Danny

Marathon Sunday

It seems strange writing that as normally it would be Monday. The hours are counting down no matter what you are doing marathon, half marathon or relay. There was a great buzz around the City Hall today even better than other years. Just a reminder that Shane Fitzgerald Foley who as everyone knows is one of our better runners is giving his time to a great and worthy cause.

Fellow Clubmates, I, Shane Fitzgerald Foley am running the Cork Half Marathon next Sun 4th as a Childrens Leukaemia Lego Runner with Nigel Lucas (Leevale AC).  If you would like to sponsor us on this adventure to support the charity, please click on the gofundme link below. The Lego Runners and the CLA appreciate your support. The GOFUNDME page https://www.gofundme.com/legorunners is an easy and safe way to donate to this fundraiser. Just get your card, click on the link above and give Nigel and Shane a push for the finish line. BE AWESOME!
The Midleton vest kept me going in our brutal training regime. Watch the serious graft we put in on one of the video links below. You might get a few tips*:) happy

Message from Captain Claire Fitzgerald

Cork Marathon

It gives me great pleasure to wish Marian Ahern, Edwin Cashman and Breeda Sheedy the very best as they embark on their first journey and prepare for their entry into the Midleton AC book of PBs for our home grown Cork marathon this Sunday.

For many others, namely Derek Ahern, Shelia Buckley, Amanda Cooney, Paul Geary, Ger O’ Regan, Morgan O'Regan, Gerard McLean, Kevin Moran and Mary B Walsh, Midleton AC wishes you ALL the luck, energy and Cork willpower to pull you through.

Whether your own goal is to complete your 19th marathon or to get over the line in less than 4 hours, our Midleton club will be there with you throughout. We will be cheering on our Midleton Marathoners at the relay stages; at the half marathon stage (even in Lego heads, aka Shane Foley- Go Team Children’s Leukaemia Association!);  and as stewards on the course we’ll be spectating and supporting you: what else would we be doing on Sunday!

Wishing EVERYONE PARTICIPATING an enjoyable experience, including our ‘Ballintotis ‘Fit for Life’ cousins, and hoping to see all Midleton AC members and supporters in the Maple from 8.30pm for the Sunday race reviews.

Apologies for any unintended omissions: please tell us ASAP.
Claire Fitzgerald, Club Captain and & the Midleton AC Commitee
