Moyne AC Summer Games & Leevale Summer Evening T&F
2020
There was a welcome return to track meets for our junior
(u20) athletes. The first of these was the Moyne AC Summer Games held on
Saturday, 25th of July on a wet and wind-swept track. Our juniors
took to the line with top senior and junior athletes. First up was Paul
Hartnett (u19) who ran a good race to come home in 9:15.4 in his first track
event since 2018. Later in the evening
the rain cleared but it still was cool with a strong wind which paid havoc for
fast times. Jack O’Shea (u20) and Frank
O’Brien (u20) toed the line and finished 6th and 9th
respectively in the “B Mile” posting excellent pb’s of 4:27.1 and 4:34.3
against stiff opposition.
On a very pleasant Tuesday evening in C.I.T., John Stelman
(u18) was very pleased with his run in the 1,500mB race to post a time of
4:32.86 at the Leevale Summer Evening T&F meet. Then on windy Thursday evening he went on to
record 9:48.23 for the 3,000m. U20
athletes, Jack and Frank both ran excellent races in the 800mA race with Jack
coming home in 1:57.25 and Frank in 1:58.44. Frank recorded a pb while Jack
posted his second fastest time. Jack
finished 5th and was closely followed home by Frank in 6th.
Congratulations to both Moyne AC and Leevale AC for running
superbly organised meets during the final week of July amid these unprecedented
times. Athletes were all delighted and very
appreciative to be back on track again.
Well done to all involved.
