Two Individual Gold and Two Individual Silver
Great results from the County Masters Cross Country today where both our ladies and men's teams won GOLD. Ladies First team O/45. Sinead O'Driscoll was 5th overall as well. She is just back from injury and was running for the team. She was backed up by Caroline, Siobhan and Agatha. It was such a pity to see some of our regular team members missing due to illness. Well done ladies.
Our men's team who won 1st O/50 were John Hennessy, John Cashman and Edmond O'Sullivan. Well done guys. Once again showing we are an all round club with great results from the Marathon yesterday and the Cross Country today.
UPDATE On Individual Prize Winners
John Cashman Gold 1st O/55
Edmond O'Sullivan Gold 1st O/60
John Hennessy Silver 2nd O/50
Sinead O'Driscoll Silver 2nd O/45
Here is a report by Declan
In what can only be described as biblical weather conditions the Midleton AC men and women's cross country teams participated in Carrignavar today. Although very wet it wasn't particularly cold and racing was enjoyable. Our women won 1st team in the over 45 category, led home once again by SinΓ©ad Keaveney(?) and the men's over 50 MIGHT HAVE WINE SOMETHING BUT NOT SURE AT THE MIN. I went home out of the rain!
Hugh thank you to all involved in organising our teams today and to Joan, Tommy, Sally and Neilus in particular. I'm sure that it was much better to be running cross country today rather than watching it and all of the club mentors and race stewards involved deserve huge thanks. It was a miserable day but brilliant!
We have a great weekend of athletics to look forward to with the Dublin Marathon which includes the National Marathon Championships which all our members are eligible for and the Masters Cross Country in Carignavar on Monday.. First off we have at least sixteen running in Dublin and we wish them the very best and hopefully all will get the times they want and also the very best to our Cross Country crew be sure to bring home some medals.
Dublin 2022 is done and dusted and there was a fantastic atmosphere around with so many delighted to be back doing it. A marathon day is always a day of highs and lows and today we saw a great amount of highs for our club and a few lows. Tony Forrestal was certainly on a high running 2.39.17 one of the fastest times for the club in recent years and that was after coming back from injury. Whilst Derek Ahern got a PB and broke the three hours once again. John Ahern made a brilliant debut closely followed by his wife Deidre getting a PB also and showing what a fine runner she is. Most others had good runs also. A special mention must go to our "Running Angel's" Siobhan and Claire who seemed to be popping up everywhere giving their assistance where needed also to our great crowd from the club that drove up especially to support. Its ye that make us the great club that we are. MAC Abu.
Apologies to those whose photos I missed but please feel free to send any you have in and I will post them tomorrow.
Best of luck to our Cross Country Crew tomorrow. Keep up the standard set today.
