WEEKEND RUNAROUND

East Cork Senior and Masters  Cross Country Championships

We Have Some Trojan Women In Our Club

I could not be prouder of the five amazing women from our club that went out today and raced in some of the worst conditions I have ever experienced at a cross country race.

We had Eileen Leahy, Louise Barry, Meadhbh Collins, Loveness Hegarty and Sinead O'Driscoll ( who togged out as some were late arriving). They did us proud and we got medals but due to the conditions the results won't be out for a while. Special mention to Catherine Carroll who was also prepared to tog out if needed.

TWO GOLD TEAM WINS

All that hard work paid off when we WON GOLD for the Senior Ladies and Gold for our Ladies O/35 TEAM.

We had ONE MAN  the ever dependable Neilus Aherne. Neilus who finished 4th O/45 and as always 1st O/65. Well done Neilus our sole male representative. No our men were not afraid of the wind and rain but most of our regulars are injured unfortunately.

She made me promise not to take her photo

Berlin Marathon

We had two runners here today and both acquitted themselves very well despite the very warm conditions. Mark Cronin finished in 3.25.37 and Tony Murray who finished in 3.38.47. Well done guys .

More photos to follow.

Cross Country

The venue for next Sunday's XC hosted by Carraig na bhFear AC is Ballinahina, White's Cross, Nearest Eircode: T23 AY86.

Many thanks again to St. Catherines AC for hosting last Sunday's event.

and a selection of photos can be seen on the East Cork Division Facebook page.

Kind Regards

John

This really is the ideal opportunity to try cross country in a friendly way. Ye are mostly masters out there so you would be running with people your own age and category. So why not give it a go and see if you like it. If you run cross country this year it is guaranteed your times will improve on the road or track next year. Danny

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Ladies Mini Marathon 5KM

The Ladies Mini Marathon incorporating the Women's County 5KM Championships took place over a new route around the Marina. It was a tough uncomfortable course by most accounts.

We saw some really great running from Vicki Spiteri who finished 12th overall ( out of 3,000) and she took 1st O/35. There was also some great running from Nathalie O'Connell who is only getting back to race fitness as is Loveness Hegarty who also ran the cross country yesterday. Updates and photos of any others who ran are very welcome. Well done all.

Boston Scientific Half Marathon

We had one runners here on Saturday Amanda Cooney who clocked 2.21.00 in very tough conditions. Well done Amanda.

Cross Country report from Sally Drennan

The cross country season kicked off today with Day 1 of the East Cork Championships, which was the women's and men's novice races.  It was a very well-organised day, run by St. Catherine's.  Thanks also to John Hennessy and Mike Dorney for their hard work on behalf of the East Cork Athletics Board.  Considering the amount of rain which fell in the past couple of days, the course was also in remarkably good condition.

Our women's team was led home by Eileen Leahy, followed by Sally Drennan, Christine Murphy and Loveness Hegarty.  Very disappointingly for Meadhbh she had car trouble and by the time she made it to the field the women's race had just started! Our team finished in third place and considering most of us are far from full fitness it was a good result.

Unfortunately Ger O'Regan was our only representative in the men's race.  He ran a very good race in a very competitive field.

Next week, Day 2 which incorporates the Men's and Women's Senior and masters races takes place on Sunday, 24 September in Carrignavar.
