WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Ladies Mini Marathon 5KM

The Ladies Mini Marathon incorporating the Women's County 5KM Championships took place over a new route around the Marina. It was a tough uncomfortable course by most accounts.

We saw some really great running from Vicki Spiteri who finished 12th overall ( out of 3,000) and she took 1st O/35. There was also some great running from Nathalie O'Connell who is only getting back to race fitness as is Loveness Hegarty who also ran the cross country yesterday. Updates and photos of any others who ran are very welcome. Well done all.

Boston Scientific Half Marathon

We had one runners here on Saturday Amanda Cooney who clocked 2.21.00 in very tough conditions. Well done Amanda.

Cross Country report from Sally Drennan

The cross country season kicked off today with Day 1 of the East Cork Championships, which was the women's and men's novice races.  It was a very well-organised day, run by St. Catherine's.  Thanks also to John Hennessy and Mike Dorney for their hard work on behalf of the East Cork Athletics Board.  Considering the amount of rain which fell in the past couple of days, the course was also in remarkably good condition.

Our women's team was led home by Eileen Leahy, followed by Sally Drennan, Christine Murphy and Loveness Hegarty.  Very disappointingly for Meadhbh she had car trouble and by the time she made it to the field the women's race had just started! Our team finished in third place and considering most of us are far from full fitness it was a good result.

Unfortunately Ger O'Regan was our only representative in the men's race.  He ran a very good race in a very competitive field.

Next week, Day 2 which incorporates the Men's and Women's Senior and masters races takes place on Sunday, 24 September in Carrignavar.
