WEEKEND RUNAROUND
The big one this weekend is the Berlin Marathon and we want to wish our very own Neilus Aherne the very best of luck. Neilus is number 3642 and has put in the hard work so hopefully he will get the great one he deserves. As he is one of the most popular and longest serving athletes in the club I am sure all the club wish him well.
Likewise another very popular club athlete who has also put in the hard work is Francis Maunsell who will be making his international debut in Berlin and we wish Francis the very best also. Hopefully I will be reporting back with good news on Sunday.
RESULT. Just in from Berlin has Neilus Aherne doing 3.08 which is superb running.Francis also had a good one 3.23 but is a bit disappointed He went out with the pacers and was 2 mins up at the halfway but ran into trouble around 16 with cramp and had to run /walk till the end.So a great time considering his difficulties.Well done to both of ye lads.
Limerick

Weekend Runaround
Gold For the Men and Double Gold For the Ladies
The East Cork Cross Country Championships for Novice and Masters took place in Youghal today. There was a fantastic turnout from all the Clubs in the division and I really have not seen as many taking part in many the year . We had a great turn out from the club and we proved worthy winners in both ladies and mens novice races.
Charleville Half Marathon
All reports in from Charleville so far express disappointment with the times done.We had a fair number of runners taking part but seemingly it was very hot there and this took its toll. Anyone that is happy with their times please let us know and we will be happy to post them.
Best of luck to everyone competing this weekend. To date we have several athletes going in Charleville Half Marathon.Remember you cannot enter on Sunday so do it today or tomorrow at the latest. Online entry available.
Also to those doing the East Cork Cross Country Championships (see post below) in Youghal on Sunday and here you can still enter on the day.So this is your chance to try out cross country in the rather nice weather we are having at present over a rather easy course.

In the men's
we got 1st Novice Team with 21 points
Youghal 2nd with 42 point and Carrignavar 3rd 64 points
Shea Coffee 3rd , Rod Scanlon 4th Paul Spiteri 5th
,Sean O’Sullivan 9th. Shea would have got an individual bronze medal
as well as the gold. Billy O’Sullivan and Matt Chojan also had fine runs.
Michelle
Kenny won the ladies race running as a guest as she is no longer eligible to
run novice. She was followed home by Karen Grant then came Sheila Buckley
closely follow by Helen Gilroy and Sally Drennan. Helen also got 1st
O/45 and Sally got 2nd O/45.
A big well done to Joan Hough who came 3rd O/45 as there was no O/55 which if there was she would have easily won Maggie Chojan made up the rest of the crew.
This means that our ladies won 1st Novice Team and 1st Masters Team

There was
some superb running out there today and it’s a long time since we took gold in
both sections. It shows the Sat. morning training is starting to pay off and as
this was the first time for many of our athletes running cross country it is a
great result. Cross country is very different from the track or the road and
has its own skills and lessons to be learned and our crew are off to a great
start. Roll on Carrig Na Fhear on the 6th Oct.
Remember
training is on every Sat. morning at 9 in Curragh Woods and all levels are
welcome.
Beginners Welcome
Please remind anyone you know that we are now open for beginner members to join.We only take beginners during the month of Sept. and October so please don't be waiting until the new year to join .
Of course we are open to new members all year round.

Track Training Available
As a club we are continuously reviewing ways to improve. Some club members are interested in having a 400m track available for training, so we have looked into some options. The track at the Mardyke is looking like a viable option. The club has decided to pay for one session a week, initially on a trial basis, for one month. If enough people are interested, the cost should not be prohibitive.
We are therefore looking to hear from members who may be interested in going to the Mardyke track once a week on a Monday night. There are two slots available - either 6pm-7pm or 7pm-8pm. The 6pm-7pm slot may suit people who work in the city.
The cost per member for the trial month would be the usual training fee of €2. The session will be in place of the speed session at Midleton College, for those that are definitely interested. The session in Midleton College hockey pitch will continue during the winter months as usual for those not availing of the session at the Mardyke – the start date for both venues will be announced in due course.
Please let me know if you have a strong interest in the Mardyke, or if you have any queries. Also please let me know if you have a preference for either time slot, and if so, if the other time slot would not suit at all. We will take this into consideration when choosing which slot to book.
.
As this session will be open to all levels, please also let me know if you would be willing to be a training leader at one of these sessions. All it would entail is pacing the laps for your group. We would probably set a session at the beginning of each session, and all groups would do the same session, at different speeds.
You can either reply to this email at midletonac66@gmail.com or text/ring me on the club phone at 086-1931338.
Best regards,
Anna Doris

Ladies Mini Marathon
Superb Run By Michelle Kenny
Over 10,000 runners took part in today's Mini Marathon raising over two million for local charities. The race was won in fine style by Lizzie Lee who also won last year and is in her wind down for the Berlin Marathon next weekend.
Our first lady home was Michelle Kenny who finished 6th overall with a superb run of 24.05. Michelle who has just finished a great track season under the diligent guidance of trainer Pat Walsh managed today to leave several of her track rivals standing. This was the highest finish for the club in some time .So very well done Michelle.
Several other runners from the club took part. I am sorry but far to many for me to mention in case I would be leaving anyone out.Well done all. It appears though that not as many members as usual took part.
It looks also that the organizers have improved things a lot for this race by making a special Athletes Entrance where I was and it seemed to work much smoother than other years ( I am open to correction ). Avoiding the chaos of other years by giving the athletes a blue dot on their number which allowed them in the Athlete's Entrance.

St Nicholas AC Coolagown 5km
Tonight saw the welcome return of the Coolagown 5Km the first since 2005 which seems unbelivable but the facts are in the results.Old results were displayed courtesy of Denis Mc Carthy and what might be of interest to many members is that in former years Eileen Kenny (Michelle's Mam) was one of the major prizewinners.
But enough history lets get back to tonight. There were some great runs Paul Spiteri who is having a superb season came home in 18.48 which believe me on this course is some running and getting a 20 sec PB. Then Paul was followed home by John Cashman the Ballintotis Rocket running the best he has in years taking 2nd O/45 next came Edmond O'Sullivan who seems to running his best in ages also and he also won 1St O/50 for his super running.( He seems to be making a habit of this lately and according to himself he never came first in anything until recently ) Next came Fergal O'Meara who despite being in heavy training managed to cruise up the fingerboard in a fantastic time of 19.29 well ahead of his recent Carrigtwohill time.Next came Tom Cody getting 2nd O/55 and then came John Carey who amazingly did the Lost Sheep Triathalon last weekend and still managed a fantastic run tonight,Next came the solid as the rock Mick Murphy in 21.20 consistent as always and heading back to his best.
Our ladies as always despite missing some of our leading lights did well as always Joan Hough came 1st O/55 whilst Kathleen O'Connell coming back from injury came 2nd O/55.

Cross Country Update
The following is an updated cross country fixtures list. Please ignore the last one which has had some amendments. Out of this extensive list, the races we would really like to have team in are the East Cork Championships, the county novice and the masters. Depending how we get on at those events, we would hope to send teams to more races.
You must wear your official Midleton AC singlet if competing in any of these races. For the East Cork cross country on 22 September there is no pre-entry although if you are planning to run there it will make things easier on the day if I have a list of names before that date.
For all the other races teams have to be entered in advance. The entry date is usually about 10 days before the race and it is important that you let me know before that date if you wish to be entered.
Remember that you don't have to be doing the specific cross country training (Sat morning Curragh Wood) to take part in these events. We recommend that as many as possible try it out. Most athletes use the cross country season to help improve themselves for the next year. So go on go on go on and give it a try.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND
Blarney Half Marathon
Again this race was blessed with ideal conditions for running .The numbers were a little down on other years but one can put this down to the big match and Dingle yesterday also took from it.It is a pity really as this race encompassed the County Championships and also the Munster Championships but these things cannot be helped. Our own numbers were down also but those that did run did very well. Christine Murphy had a super race in getting in under the magic 100 mins and taking 3rd O/40 and also picking up the medals in the process. She also knocked over 6 mins off her PB so things are looking good for Dublin.Fionan O’hAodain making his half marathon debut ran an excellent race coming in ten minutes better than he hoped for. Remember Fionan only started with the Beginners group last year and to be doing as well as he is doing is fantastic. Next came Mary O'Keeffe again making her half debut and doing very well followed by Mary B. Walsh who also had an excellent run showing that the three ladies are well on the road for Dublin on the October weekend.
Dingle Marathon & Half Marathon Report
Over a tough very hilly course today several of our members stepped out into the cool Kerry air into what was ideal running conditions. Our first runner home was Adam Duchnicz who had a superb run in 3.10 finishing 14th overall. Next in having another great run was Magic Margaret Jones finishing in a wonderful time of 3.33 showing all the hard training paid off.The next finisher was Declan Dorgan running on his home turf and with no serious training put in but finished as someone described it "smiling as if he was out on a training run"
In the Half Marathon again we had some great runs First of the crew was the great Helen Gilroy after having a cold all week did a great time of 1.36 making it 5mins faster than last year Next came Sheila Buckley who was also suffering from a cold came in a very credible 1.38 again a big improvement on last year. These were followed by Kara Reilly,Trish Daly and Susan Fitzgerald I don't have exact time for them but all reports say they had great runs too.
A big disappointment was that the race had no category prizes which meant several of our girls lost out. This is really disgraceful with an entry fee of over 60 Euro plus travel expenses and accomadation its the least one would expect It looks like Dingle is becoming another one of the "we are only in it for the money" races. Just look a the value of the Half marathon in Blarney tomorrow 20 Euro loads of prizes and discount vouchers for all finishers .A credit to St Finbarrs Club and John Buckley Sports.
Please don't Forget
OPEN NIGHT
Our annual Open Night will take place in Midleton Community Centre on Wed 18th Sept @ 7pm Everyone welcome . Please pass the word around. Tell anyone you know that might be interested especially anyone who might want to take up running.
Danny
This session is available to all levels and all groups yes all groups including yours also it might be nice to wear your club gear for the photos- an opportunity not to be missed!
Please pass the word around.Open to all members.
DINGLE -- BLARNEY --LOST SHEEP
Wishing the best of luck to all our athletes competing this weekend in the various events. In Dingle Marathon we have Declan Dorgan running on his home turf and must know every stone in the road there as he has completed all the Dingle ones so far and Adam Dubchez will be out for another great time. Then we have Magic Margaret Jones who has prepared well for this one doing some fine tuning under the guidance of Pat Walsh in the lead up ,even tapering by skipping the race in Carrigtwohill the other night (a new one for Margaret missing a race). Then in the half marathon we have the ever consistent pair of Sheila Buckley and Helen Gilroy who both have had colds recently so we wont be expecting PBs but no doubt as always we will have great runs.
If there are any others running we wish you the best also and please let us know mdtacinfo@gmail.com
We will have a number of runners doing Blarney so the best to them also.
Then we have the Lost Sheep Triathalon guys we wish them the best too.
And of course we wish the very very best to the Cork Team on Sunday in Croke Park.
Dont forget Cross Country Training in Curragh Wood Sat morning @9am. This is open to everyone no matter what level you are at.

Sonia Confirmed For Midleton AC Training Session

Sonia will be ready to start the session at 7pm, so she has suggested that we arrive at 6:45pm to warm up. She will set a 2-4 mile session, talk us through it, jog warm down, and will then answer any questions.

GREENVILLE 5km Carrigtwohill.
This race took place tonight in ideal conditions plus the changes they made to the course were a great improvement and it was great to see so many of our members giving support to this very worthy cause. It was also great to see Michelle Kenny back in winning form and taking 1st place in a time of 19.14 which is excellent over this challenging course. She was followed in 3rd place by Sally Drennan running on her home turf and certainly making the most of it and Sally was closely follow by Sheila Buckley who had another fine run Our other prizewinners were
Mary O'Keeffe 1st O/45
Marian Aherne 2nd O/45
Joan Mc Carthy1st O/55
Our men did very well also
The ever solid Sean O'Sullivan 2nd O/40 and John Cashman who is running absolutely great taking 2nd O/45 Then of course our Captain Edmond O'Sullivan who got his first 1st recently decided he wanted more and tonight came 1st O/50 again. He was follow by a man who has been sadly missing from the scene for some time due to injury Dan Horgan who came 2nd O/55.
Several other of our members had fine runs.Well done all.
