WEEKEND RUNAROUND

NEWSFLASH

MIDLETON o/50 MEN TAKE SILVER

Word just in is that Midleton AC O/50 men took silver yesterday in the Munster Masters in Beauford. Stanislaw Byczek,Edmond O'Sullivan and Neilus Aherne. They were beaten by Leevale AC by only four points. These guys had no warm up,no walk around the course They arrived in the nick of time and went straight from the bus to the start line.Imagine what they would do if they had a proper warm up and knew the course.Led home by Stanislaw Byczek having a powerful run as always he was closely followed by Edmond O'Sullivan getting his new spikes dirty but having the race of his life.I have been watching this man run for over twenty years but he has taken to cross country like a duck to water they were followed by Neilus Aherne who has never ran a poor race in his life.
Also the lads were on the Cork team that is why they are not wearing the Midleton AC vests.
Well done lads we are all proud of you.
The Silver Medalists Stanislaw, Neilus and Edmond

Beauford Munster Masters Cross Country.

Here again we saw some fantastic running from our club members with many of them representing Cork as well as Midleton.
Our ladies were the first off and were led home by a brilliant run by Helen Gilroy who surpassed herself in beating many of her road rivals she was followed home by Anna Doris who had a fine run her first since Dublin Marathon and she was followed by the ever solid Joan Hough. Our ladies came fourth which is a great result but sad in that they were originally given third place. Helen also scored on the Cork Team O/35 team whilst Joan was 2nd O/55 individual.
Our men equally did very well and were led home by Capt. Noel O'Regan followed by Stanislaw Byczek both having a great battle followed by Edmond O'Sullivan having the run of his life in his new spikes followed by Neilus Aherne, Sean O'Sullivan and James Moore. Some of these guys never ran cross country before this season and from one who has watched more seasons than most this augers very well for the future of cross country in the club.
They all ran super especially considering they were delayed in getting to the course and had only time to hop out of the bus stick on their numbers and run.No time for a warm up or a walk around the course.
I have not got the full results for the men yet but am hopeful of medals especially from the O/50 team of Stanislaw, Edmond and Neilus.

Waterford Half Marathon

Sheila Buckley again excelled herself in having another well deserved PB here today Sunday returning a fantastic time of 1.31.05 This is really excellent running.
Others who had good runs there today were (times approx as reported) were Bernie Twomey 1.49.48 another PB she seems to be collecting them at every race these days and Aoife Fouhy 1.56 plus Aidan O'Herlihy a fine time of 1.44.
I dont know if we had others there as yet but if there were please send us in your results if you want them mentioned.

Killarney Update
There is something in the Kerry Air

Today saw some great running from our crew that went back to Killarney for the 5Km Feet First.
Margaret Jones is realy burning rubber by getting a new PB by 14 seconds and came 1st O/40 Whilst the very solid John Dunphy also got a new PB in 17.53 and came 3rd o/40 and Paul Spiteri was our first man home in a great time of 17.37 again a new PB and came 12th overall.
Well done all.

Anyone else who ran here or elsewhere please let us know. mdtacinfo@gmail.com

Directions to Cross Country on Sunday

The start time of the races on Sunday is fairly unclear at this stage.  Some of the forms say 2.00 pm, some say 2.45 pm and a notice on the County Board website said 1.45 today.  I think to be on the safe side we should assume a 1.45 pm start, although the women's race is almost certainly on first.  I plan to be there by 12.45 at the latest and will have the numbers. Remember your Midleton AC singlets, although those running on the Cork team will be given Cork singlets which must be worn. Please bring pins for the numbers too.

Directions (thanks to Joan Hough!)
Beaufort is about 6 or 7 miles outside Killarney.  So, when approaching Killarney take the Ring Road and follow the N72 road and signs for Killorglin.  You will first pass Killarney Golf Club, then the village of Fossa and the sign to the Gap of Dunloe. Keep on the N72 and after about 2 miles you will come across a garage on your right.  Directly opposite the garage there is a road to the left going across a bridge and Beaufort is signposted.  About a half a mile or so up the road turn right and head for the Community Centre, the course is beyond this.

See you all on Sunday!

Sally

NEWSFLASH

The Word Is OUT

Well done to Paul Spiteri who got his first FIRST this weekend when he won the Park Run in Macroom. WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Reindeer Run

Well done to Christopher McCarthy who came 4th in the 5km race and to Bernie Twomey who again got a new PB in the 10Km race. Bernie is running brilliant at the moment as she got a PB as well last weekend in Killarney as well.
The course seems to have been hard to follow again which is a pity considering the cost of entry and seeing as the Run In The Dark had similar problems last week. I really hope that these fund raising races start considering the runners as they deserve better rather than the money they are making no matter how deserving the cause.

Danny

Best of luck to everyone running this weekend. Please keep the blog posted mdtacinfo@gmail.com All reports welcome.

News

To all members:
In 2014 there will be a change to the current payment format in the club in relation to both the annual registration fee and the ongoing training fees. The committee has come to the decision that from January 2014 the €2 charge for training will be discontinued. Instead of this charge, the annual registration fee will be €70.

We are changing the format in order to simplify matters and to eliminate the extra work involved in collection of a training fee per session.  This is largely due to the time consuming jobs of collecting the money and getting it to the bank.  Bagging and handing in the money to the bank is very time consuming.

This increase will be purely to cover the cost of the training venues used on Monday and Wednesday nights.

For a member who trains once a week with the club this represents a saving of approximately €60 per annum. For those members who train twice a week the savings are in excess of €150 per annum. We will continue to offer a very attractive annual rate for juveniles and also the unemployed of €25.

While the fee will no longer be collected it will still be necessary for each member to sign in at each training session.  This is for club records and insurance purposes.

Up until now the club has heavily subsidised the club gear.   Under the new system the gear will not be subsidised by the club. However, as these are mainly once off purchases we feel that it is a fairer system that each person should pay for his/her own gear rather than have it subsidised by those members who come regularly to training.

The annual registration fee will be collected at training from the beginning of January.  For insurance purposes payment must be made by 31 January. We are conscious that this is a larger sum to pay upfront.  If any member is having difficulty in making the payment, please contact Danny or any other committee member in confidentiality.

If anyone has comments or queries on the above, please contact Noel or Sally for clarification.

It is not necessary to fill in all categories.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND
Inter Counties X country

Michelle Kenny had another great run today in the inter counties Cross Country Championships where she helped the Cork Team get the Bronze. She ran 30.31 which over a cross country course which  is a great time for 5 Miles on the roads not alone cross country.

Sixmilebridge Half Marathon

Well done to John Dunphy who if there was an award for bravery he would win it hands down. That would be for a man wearing the Midleton colours in Sixmilebridge today where he ran a superb time of 1.30.12 in the half marathon.Unfortunately our hurlers did not do as well.
As John says its a shame about the colours on the medal especially for a Corkman.

WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Cross Country Castlelyons

Michelle Takes Munster Bronze

Well done to all our crew who braved the terrible conditions out there today which were even worse for the runners as they has to contend with a very cut up and slippy course after the juvenile races being on first. Michelle Kenny was our first lady home and she finished Third over all. Running strong all the way the leader led from start to finish about 30 mtrs ahead of 2nd and 3rd who were neck and neck until the final hundred meters. Michelle had come off a very heavy track session yesterday and felt the effects of it today as she had recently beaten both of the girls who were ahead of her today but still she ran a very fine race and hopefully will get a gold medal with the Cork Team

Helen Gilroy came next running a powerful strong race and gaining all the way never faltering for a minute to show what a superb athlete she is. Joanne O'Mahony came next again running very well and struggling with the conditions to come through in style. Maggie Chojan came next also running with Cork allowed her strength to carry her round whilst she was followed by Trish Murphy who seems to relish the tough going and was gaining places right up to the finish.

Our men were out in strength too and were led home by  Capt. Noel O'Regan again showing why he is such a fine runner whilst letting his experience show he constantly gained places throughout the race. He was followed by club cross country coach Matt Chojan who was getting stronger as the race progressed. Fergal O'Meara came next running a powerful race and again progressing as the race went on showing what a very fine athlete he is. Next came the battle of the giants Castlemartyr versus Ladysbridge. James Moore and Neilus Aherne running together most of the way with neither athlete able to break away with James showing how he has progressed since he first donned his spikes in Carrignavar only a couple of months ago he finally overcame the mighty Neilus by a couple of meters in the end. A special word of thanks must go to Sally Drennan who organised all the entries and was today waiting in the wind and rain with the numbers for the runners. I will post full results when to hand.

Great Railway Run (25k Route)
Sheila Buckley 4th Lady Home

We had a few runners here today with reports of a mighty run again by Sheila Buckley she came a very good 4th Lady overall a great reward for all the hard work she has put in. It is wonderful to see someone reap the benifit of proper training and hard work and no one deserves her recent success as much as Sheila..
Another great run was run by Fionan O'hAodain who did 2h 20m which is fine running by any standards. He was well supported all the way round by clubmate Joseph Fouhy who ran the last couple of hundred meters with him.
Any others that ran please report in.
Another fine run by Christopher McCarthy who ran 43:46 in the 10k Great Railway Run
