Holland Calling

Word just in from Holland where Michael McNamara was running a half marathon in Venlo is that he finished in 1.51.32.He described that atmosphere there as fantastic on a cold but dry day. Well done once again Michael.

Mallow 10 Mile

Neilus Aherne1st O/55

                                             The Mallow 10 took place in glorious sunshine on Sunday 22nd with a capacity crowd of around fifteen hundred running. We were well represented as usual with almost everyone having fine runs. Our first man home again was Eugene McCarthy followed not far behind by Neilus Aherne who took 1st O/55 .Its great to see Neilus getting back in form whilst Fergal O'Meara had a fine run using it as a training run for his upcoming Manchester Marathon. Others who had very good runs were Declan Dorgan, David Motherway, Arthur McCarthy, Dereck Aherne and Kevin Morrison.
Mick Murphy ran with Helen Gilroy our first lady home who is just coming back from injury and had a fine injury free run. Esther Murphy had another fine run as had Maire Walsh,Niamh Dorgan,
and Christine Murphy who was delighted to crack the eighty minute mark once again. Svetlana Creedon had an excellent run and seemed comfortable all the way.
The new course seems to have been a great success and luckily the temperature dropped about twenty minutes after the start and this was a big help. The stewarding and organisation by Mallow AC was superb as always with many of the club members forfeiting the race to steward this year and then run next year, Well done all and apologies to anyone I missed.

Midleton AC Goes International Again

The Midleton AC colours will be worn internationally again this weekend .They will be worn by Michael McNamara in a half marathon in Venlo, Holland.
Michael will be our sole representative as his wife Martha was also due to run but unfortunately had to drop out due to injury. I know everyone in the club wishes Michael who is one of our most improved runners very well with his run.

More All Ireland Medals For Joan Hough

At AIT last weekend in the All Ireland Masters Indoor Championships Joan Hough was once again on the podium. This time the difference was that it was the indoor championships and Joan had never competed indoor before and had not run a track season in over sixteen years. This did not deter Joan and she exceed her expectations and finished 2nd O/55 in the 1500m and 3rd O/55 in the 800m therefore adding two more All Ireland medals to her collection. Well done Joan.

Mallow 10

The big one this weekend for most is the Mallow 10  and remember the course has slightly changed at the start and finish. Full details can be had at http://munsterraceroutes.blogspot.ie/2013/01/cork002.html

There is a fine climb at the 1/4 mile mark despite what the course description says so be prepared for it and well warmed up also remember to hit for home as soon as you pass the new church as the finish is downhill around the corner. We wish all our members well and hope ye all have great runs.
