Midleton AC Senior Section News
from Peter Gunning - Joint P.R.O
With the Ballycotton dust settled serious attention has now been focused on some shorter course racing with some outstanding performances worth noting from our members. On St Patrick’s day all running roads led to Ballinhassig for the Paddy Desmond Memorial 4 mile county championships with the black and green hooped white hoops prominent amongst the 256 participants. Noel O’Regan and John Hennessy broke the line together at 22:42 to finish in 12th overall and win the 0-40 category. Kevin Smyth and Marc Dalton followed in their slipstream in 23:03 and 23:08 respectively. Donal Broderick, Eric Owers, John O’Connell, Owen O’Connell, Fergal O’Meara (pb)Michael Murphy, Niall McCarthy, Ned Ramsell, Donie O’Connell and Danny McCarthy were all well-placed. with strong performances also from the ever-improving Ann Geary and Mary O’Mahony.
There was a great turn-out in Little Island on Sunday last for the Janseen 4mile road race under BHAA rules. Midleton runners were again to the fore with several prize winning performances. John Hennessy was first home 0-40 with Adam Duchincz third 0-45. Denise Hickey was third 0-35 and Joan Hough picking up yet another first place0-50.
