Midleton 5 Thanks

 

 

A big thank you to everyone who availed of the pre reg. tonight.We had over 150 sign up  and that will be of great help with the crowds tomorrow and remember you can reg tomorrow from 5.30 onwards so do avail of it if possible.
Remember this is your club's race and we need ALL our members to be on board and help in any way they can please sandwiches, cakes, stewarding and running.
We will be a few members down tomorrow night due to conformations etc so we are asking for all the help we can get and thanks again to all those who have already volunteered .

Just a reminder that the entries for the Cheetah Run (4 miles) open on Wednesday the 30th of April. There are 900 places available. Entries will open in two batches....450 at 10am and 450 at 7pm.

NIGHT RUN

Sincere thanks to the club members as well as their spouses and friends who generously gave up their Sunday night to steward at the night race in Cork.  Entirely thanks to their generosity we have already raised € 300 which will go towards the purchase of a club defibrillator.

Delighted to report that Cork won. at this veryThere were huge crowds at this very unusual race last night where ten members from the cub were stewarding in order to raise funds for a defibrillator. We also had several members running who seemed to have great runs. Louise Barry finishing 14th lady followed by Aoife Fouhy and Bernie Twomey. Analogue 6Km

 

Mike Cremin ran this unusual distance (6Km) race in Raheen,Limerick on Sat night in a time of 22.36.

 

 

 

Passage 10Km

Anna Doris 2nd Lady

 

On what turned out to be one of the worst nights for running in a while the Passage 10Km took place Friday night. Over a very tough and hilly course, the wind was even against one going uphill Anna Doris running her third race in four days came home as a prize winner again. when she took 2nd Lady overall there tonight. Well done again Anna.

 

Midleton 5 Pre Entry

 

We will have pre entry for our own Midleton 5 Race on Wed evening at the Community Centre from 6pm -7.30 pm

Please if at att possible pre enter this race as it will save you time on Thur .

Pre entry is open to everyone not just club members and you can get someone else to do it for you if you cant make it yourself.

Also don't forget we need sandwiches or cakes etc for Thur nigh as request every member to bring some please.

 

 

NIGHT RUN

The organisers of the Sansung 10k Night Run in Cork City have extended the closing date for entries untilFriday April 25th at 3pm.

 

This is a unique event in that the course is on closed roads on a Sunday evening in the heart of Cork City. The entry also includes a dry fit top.

In comparison to most races, the entry fee is more expensive but most 10k races don't give out a long sleeved dry-fit top or have the associated costs of having a course through the heart of Cork City at night.

East Cork Road Racing Championships

Ballynoe

 

 

 The Men's team who won the bronze

 

The East Cork Road Racing Championships were held in Ballynoe Thur. 24^th and a great crowd of runners turned out for this important local occasion.

In the ladies race we saw some superb running from all the Midleton AC ladies and great credit is due to all who ran. In this race we took Gold and Silver individual medals and also took the first team  prize as well. Karen Grant had a mighty run to win the trophy closely follow by Anna Doris taking the silver. The team that took Gold consisted of Ladies Captain Sally Drennan,Claire Fitzgerald and Lorna Santry. They were assisted and followed by Bernie Twomey and Margaret Twohig who had excellent runs as had Joan Mc Carthy. We done ladies as always ye did your club proud and once again brought home the silverware.

The men’s race was a much closer fought affair with East Cork taking all the individual medals but losing out on a countback to Youghal in the teams. Midleton did very well here too only losing out in the closing stages to take the bronze team prize.It was nice to see Youghal winning as it has been some time. Midleton were led home with another great run by John Dunphy followed by Paul Spiteri who had a massive run considering the heavy training he did the day before. Our third scorer was Andre Brodkorb closely follow by a powerful run by John Cashman who was unjustly passed in the final few meters. Others who had good runs were Declan Dorgan and Neilus Aherne, Neilus  an example to all of sheer quality with his third race in five days. Barry Williams, Fionan OhAodain and Mark O’Reilly doing the course for the first time acquitted themselves very well and gained valuable experience for another day. Like the ladies well done to all the men who ran and also did the club proud. Abig thank you to all the supporters who cheered on both teams.

Stryker 4 Mile
Almost five hundred and fifty runners took part in this race and we were very well represented with a huge number of runners far too many to mention by name. It was very well organised with lots of stewards and hopefully it will become again a regular feature on the race calendar. We had two prize winners here Mary O'Keeffe 2nd O/45 and
 Kathleen O'Connell 1st O/60
Karen Grant was 2nd overall but doesn't appear to have been registered nor was Neilus Aherne so hopefully this will be sorted by the next race.

This amazing young man Cian Horgan managed to run with his hand in plaster and still he beat his Mam,


WEEKEND UPDATE
Two of our men had wins at the weekend club Mens Captain Noel O'Regan came 2nd in a duathlon  in Kinsale and Neilus Aherne came 1st O/55 in the Clonakilty 10 mile road race.Well done guys.



STRYKER 4Mile Carrigtwohill

 

The Stryker 4 mile race is back on the calendar this year on Tuesday April 22 at 7.30pm. Registration takes place at Carrigtwohill Community Hall from 6pm. All proceeds go towards the Children's Ward in CUH so please try to get out and support this cause.
Great to see this event back on the calendar as it was a very popular race up to a few years ago when it stopped . At one time a group used to travel to this race from the Hq of the company in the USA and great fun was had exchanging running gear Tshirts etc. as they liked the Irish ones and we liked the American ones.
The course is not an easy one it usually starts down by the church crosses the railway bridge and uphill then a sharp left like the Summer race but keeps going past the first crossroads until the next left then downhill to the old Youghal Carpets plant and left again to the roundabout and left again into Carrigtwohill.

Boston UPDATE

                                                                  By all accounts the conditions were tough here today and from watching the second half it looked that way. No details yet from the girls but Margaret Jones first home in 3.54.28 and Helen and Sheila finished together in 4.01.01.  Well done ladies it certainly appears to have been a tough one.
A totally amazing marathon and experience is how Helen describes it unfortunately they ran into trouble around the 11 mile mark so they stopped the watches and concentrated on finishing and getting that medal. They worked together like true club mates and struggled to get over that line. Fifteen  miles is some distance to run when you are in trouble but these amazing ladies did it and we are all so very proud of them. That is also the magic and the mystery of the marathon its all on the day.
I know some of you will be interested  so Steve Devereaux "Tough battle Thank God finished in one piece" in  3.18.02 and Denis O'Sullivan a fine run in 3.14.22. A big big thanks to Don Ryan and Anna Doris for keeping me posted on Boston during the race as I was in Boherbue and internet reception is poor down there.

Ladies the job is" done n dusted" ye are now free to "shop till ye drop"

 NY wont know what hit it when the Midleton AC girls go to town.

 

 Well lads Boston I did conquer. All went well until mile 10 when the IT Band starting to stick. Well mile 13 it locked so decided I'd aim to finish in the 4hrs so walked and jogged the last 13miles and YES I finished in 3.54. Very happy  Margaret McCarthy Jones

Boherbue To Kiskeam

Great to see such a fine crowd there today and the numbers increasing again  for this very special race which saw James McCarthy winning closely follow by Michael Harty who broke the magic 20 mins for the first time.
We were represented by three athletes. Brendan Cronin running on his home turf excelled himself with a great run getting a PB and winning 3rd O/35. Joan McCarthy had a fine run on this reasonable but tough course and came home 2nd O/55. Danny McCarthy also ran there today. Here's hoping a regular for this race Tom Cody will be back running soon.

 

 

Macroom Park Run

Saturday saw a Park Run held again in Macroom where we had two members return excellent times John Dunphy continues his flying form finishing in 19.28 and Fionan O'hAodain continues his improvement finishing in 23.49 showing the speed work he did on the track all winter is starting to pay off.

Half Million Ray Darcy Laura Lynn Half Marathon

Vincent Connolly completed this race Sat morning. Due to start at 10 o clock it didn't get going till 10.30 which normally would be fine but as per Vince the day was extremely hot nearly 20 degrees which made running very hard. Vincent did 2.04 which is great time especially considering its his first long one in a while and it was so hot. Well done Vince.

The Half Million Half Marathon For Laura Lynn was held today in the Phoenix Park in Dublin and attracted a field of over 1400 runners. One of the runners...a 39 year old man with 3 children...however collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest after finishing the race. Two Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics (one retired...Gerry Hilliard, one off-duty) who were also taking part in the race came to the man’s aid, and administered CPR. Members of the St. John’s Ambulance arrived and also provided assistance. The man’s pulse returned after he was treated with a defibrillator, and he was then taken to hospital.

A witness said..."Seen the man collapse after just finishing before him and the runner who tended to him definitely saved his life, the poor guy was going grey and Gerry (?) started CPR immediately and got him back, scarily close to a tragedy but well done to all who helped save him! "

Half Marathon Phoenix Park

Good Friday morning at 10am sees the start of the weekend racing with Vincent Connolly doing a half marathon in the Phoenix Park. This is Vincent's first long one since getting his hip done last year and I know that everyone wishes him well. Many will have started their running with Vince in the Beginners Section and I am sure that they especially will wish him well.

Boston Marathon

We have three ladies running in Boston on Monday and likewise I know that everyone wishes them well. They Helen Gilroy, Margaret Jones and Sheila Buckley are in Shannon Airport as I write and we also wish them a safe journey there and back. The girls have prepared really well for this race and are an example to all of dedication and hard work which will pay off on Monday.
On a historical note the last Midleton AC runner we had in Boston in the mid 90s was the great Joe Hourigan and he christened a local hill "Heartbreak Hill" in memory of the occasion as Boston is noted for its hills. Our own race the Midleton 5 (May 1st) is now names the "Joe Hourigan Memorial Five Mile Road Race" in honour and in memory of this always smiling running legend.
Also its forty year since an Irish man Dick Hooper won Boston so the ladies are stepping out on another historic occasion.
Stephen Deveraux Youghal AC who many of you will know from TRInRun shop in Midleton is also running Boston and we wish him the very best also. Steve will be well familiar with Boston having lived there for several years in what he describes himself as "his non running days" Steve is one of the most popular guys on the circuit and he and Rickie have done wonders for local running in recent years. As the yanks say "Way2Go Steve"

Boherbue 4 Mile

This race takes place on Easter Monday and consists of a race from Boherbue to Kiskeam over 4 miles. Entry is in Boherbue where you get a bus back to Kiskeam where the race starts. It has always been a popular race with Midleton athletes and is a nice 4 mile well capable of producing PBs.

Ballynoe East Cork Championships

This takes place next Thur evening Ladies 7.30 2Km and Men at 8PM ( see previous post) we need as many as possible to run this race.

BALLINTOTIS 4Mile

                                                        Congrats Ballintotis and East Cork AC on another fantastic night. There was over one thousand runners there tonight and the organisation of the race and afters was simply superb.
 It was a beautiful night for running and resulted in some great times and several PBs including Mike Dolphin , John Dunphy, Don Ryan, Christopher McCarthy, Colette Dalton and Louise Barry any others please let me know and I will be happy to list it.
Well done to also the beginners group who put in a great display with some of them breaking the 36 min mark. The race was won by James McCarthy again in a new course record of 19.31.

Ballynoe Next Thursday 24th April

The East Cork Road Championships take place in Ballynoe next week. We want/need as many as possible of our members to run. The ladies race is only 2Km and 3/4 of that is down hill so everyone is well able. The men's race is 5 miles consisting of 4 loops and again everyone is well able. This is always a great night with none of the really huge crowds that we tend to get at other races these days. So please come out and support your club.  For those of you who are wondering where Ballynoe is It is out the Dungourney road just past Leahy's Farm.
Ladies race 7.30 Mens race 8pm.
