WEEKEND RUNAROUND


East Ferry 5Mile

                                                                  Friday evening saw some fine running from our club members over the East Ferry Rowing Club's 5Mile route where luckily the weather cleared up in time for the race.
                                                       There was around one hundred and twenty runners took part and the whole event was superbly organised and I hope it becomes an annual event and the numbers grow as it really does deserve support. Well done Emmet Foley and CREW ye did a great job. Its best just list our prize winners as we had so many.

NEWSFLASH

Donie Walsh a real running legend former Irish International Runner and highly respected coach will be acting as head coach at our Monday night sessions as and from the 14th July. His advice will be available to all who attend, More to follow but see training notice below for info.

Belle Of Ballincollig 5Km

Belle Of Ballincollig 5Km saw Helen Gilroy continue her winning ways with a fantastic 2nd place overall in this very competitive event. She did a super time of 19.37.Well done Helen delighted for you as always. ( In case any of you are wondering that I got the results wrong yes Helen did get 2nd as the girl ahead of her was a juvenile )

Tonight Thursday saw Andre Brodkorb organise a mile run for the club and it was very successful and great fun. Hopefully he might consider doing it on a monthly basis over the Summer,Some peoples times were as follows. As the race was run on the left hand side of the road from Mile two to one it is slightly over the mile. Andre 5.31, Don 5.35, Sheila 5.52 Mags 5.58, Peter 6.30, Lorna 6.35.

 

Don't forget East Ferry 5 Mile on Friday evening and be sure to get there early as the start is at least a half mile from the reg. in Saleen School.

 

 

TRAINING

 

Don't forget that on Monday's we have moved the  speedwork training to Midleton College Cricket Field. This is situated at the back of Midleton Hospital and has a very good surface . There is also loads of space there to run around if you want an easy session. Time still the same 6.30pm

This is open to all our members at whatever level. If you want to improve you need to do speed work and it is always better not to do it on the road all the time as this can lead to injury.

There will be new special session for 8-9 min (or slightly above or below) milers which will be taken by John Dunphy so if you really want to improve here is your chance. There is no better pacer around than John as can be seen from the demand on his services by race organisers.

Our usual trainers, Noel, Edmond and Danny will continue to cater for other groups at the various levels.  We are also delighted to have Jim McMurtry (club president and former international athlete) involved in setting the sessions.

Directions: park behind Supervalu/opposite Midleton Hospital, then with your back to the hospital, go right and take the right hand turn at the "Detour" sign - it's only a 2 min jog from there.

Our first session the last Monday week was hugely successful with a great crowd and trainers catering for all levels and everyone who attended seemed delighted with the track and the sessions.
