Weekend Runaround.
Roll Up Roll Up
Daniel Colbert Midleton AC and under 23 All Ireland Champion along with Thomas Barr the fastest 400h in Europe this year are training partners and friends. They have started making these amazing rollers . Basically they are used for massaging out your muscles. They are very effective for relieving sore muscles, after training especially. They are selling them for less than half the price you pay in the shops but as well, they are also a lot firmer, so you get a deeper and more effective massage.
They are selling them for only 12 Euro
See their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/firmroller or contact Daniel at firmroller@gmail.com

WEEKEND RUNAROUND
Kinsale 5 mile
Brilliant running again tonight Friday in the Kinsale 5 by Emmet Ronan who after a hard weeks training came home in a great time of 29.20 not a PB but still brilliant running especially considering that it is a course one needs to know to take the full advantage of and this was Emmet's first time doing it.
Another Midleton AC runner to have a great run was Christopher McCarthy who smashed his PB and got a time of 32:58. Well done Christopher. Two other Midleton AC members who had fine runs were Simon Fitzgerald 35.44 and Brendan Barry who got a PB with 38.54.
National League Finals
Best of luck to Daniel Colbert who is competing as a guest with Youghal AC in these finals in Tullamore on Sunday. Daniel will be doing the 200, 400h and the triple jump (his first time doing it) .
40 Days On Foot Update
I posted the below some time ago and I don't know if any of you contacted the organisers but they are arriving in Castlemartyr around 2pm this Friday afternoon and are leaving in the morning at 10am.They would appreciate anyone who can running with them so if anyone or a training group wishes to join them in Castlemartyr at 10am in the morning they would be most welcome to run a mile or a few miles with them. Info and more details from
jacobscallum@gmail.com or phone on either 0861526885 or 0851453439.
Conna 5km
Its a long weekend so it started on Thur. evening with the Conna 5km.There were over two hundred and twenty runners at this race which was very well organised and well deserving on the support that it got. There is a hill here from mile one to just after mile two and guys its one of the toughest hills I ever ran and I have run some hills. It just goes on and on around every bend getting steeper. All our runners had fine runs here with Paul Geary who got a PB in Novartis the previous night having a fine run as did Danny McCarthy who also ran Novartis.
Sheila Buckley did the same time as she did last year 20.41 and took 4th Lady overall with another fine run. Joan McCarthy who also did Novartis battled all the way over the last mile to hold her position and take 1st O/55 Lady whilst Emer O'Doherty running here for the first time also had a great run.

40 Days on Foot came about after a close friend of mine who has dealt with mental health issues for a long time came very close to taking her own life last year.
Thankfully she made it through a very tough time in her life but she spoke very highly of the help she received from Pieta House when she was in her darkest moments.
This inspired me to organise a fund raiser for Pieta House as my own way of showing my appreciation of the amazing service they offer.
I've always been quite a fit person but started endurance running about a 12 months ago and since then it has completely taken over my life!
I decided the best way to raise money for Pieta House was to run multiple marathons around the country so I could also spread the word of pieta House and raise awareness of the mental health issues that the everyday person can struggle with.

Myself and Sean have been organising the run for the past 6 months to the best of our ability but as we are just 2 people Organising a large scale event between full time work and training we unfortunately lack a few resources which has lead to us wanting to try to rely on the help of Athletics Clubs and the Irish public in supporting us on our journey around the country.
Hopefully the country will really get behind us and support the run and in doing so support Pieta House.
Kind Regards,

HELP NEEDED
Midleton Cycling and Triathlon Club are holding their triathlon this Sunday in Whitegate at 10.30am. NOVARTIS 5Km
A huge crowd of 635 runners turned out for this race on Wed evening and we had a great crew there from the club. The race was won once again by Mark Hanrahan in a time of 15.05.
We had a fine crew of prize winners and PBs as well. Martha McNamara and Marie Gillman both got PBs and Marie who is running fantastic these days also got 1st O/50 Ladies prize as well. Colette Dalton and Eleanor Duggan both had great runs in the very hot conditions.
It was wonderful to see Team AA Archer consisting of Eugene McCarthy, Fergal O'Meara and Mick Murphy take their first prize as a team when they took 2nd Grade B Team prize. Well done lads may it be the first of many. Our first man home was John Dunphy in a time of 18.40 and take 2nd O/45 prize. Fergal O'Meara then took 3rd O/45 whilst John Cashman took 3rd O/50. Most others seemed to have good runs and it was great to see Kathleen O'Connell back in action after her injury. The only disappointment of the night was that they ran out of T shirts and food proving they are victim to their own success and popularity.
Remember all upcoming BHAA races will be at 7.30 from now on also those considering the Cork to Cobh it will be a little earlier this year on Sunday 28th Sept.

TRAINING
Another amazing night of training with over seventy members attending which is great considering how many are on holidays. Everyone seemed to enjoy and benefit from it, It was ALL inclusive from the slowest to the fastest.
Everyone did the same session at their various levels and Donie was available to talk to all and answer any queries anyone had.
There will be No official training next Monday night as its a Bank Holiday but there are a few meeting up so anyone wishing to connect up please e mail the blog mdtacinfo@gmail.com and we will connect you up with the group.
NEW MEMBERS
New members are always welcome once you can run a little (beginners can join in September). The membership runs from Jan to Jan. Any queries just e mail the blog mdtacinfo@gmail.com There are a good few months still in the Summer Sessions so please do take advantage of this. The improvement in so many members from the Monday Night speed work sessions is very obvious and of course as anyone will tell you its so much better to do speed work on grass or track.
Races This Week
Wednesday see the Novartis 5Km in Ringaskiddy. This traditionally is one of the most popular races on the Calendar. With a T-shirt and a good challenging course all for 5 Euro for registered BHAA members and one of the best afters around.
Conna 5km again another great LOCAL race and well worth supporting. Organised by our neighbouring club St Catherine's a great night is assured. So plase consider coming out and supporting. Its only 20 mins down the road.
Kinsale 5Mile
This is the fastest course in the county and takes place on Fri Night at 8pm. If you want a PB this is the race to do.

Ballinskelligs Three Beach Challenge
Many people go on holiday and find excuses not to run but not our Helen Gilroy whilst on holidays in Ballinskelligs she took in the Three Beach Challenge over eight miles and three beaches with one of them all stones and a small bit of road and then back again the same way. Not a fast race but very challenging .Helen wound up 12th overall and 3rd lady. This guys is after doing a great run in Churchtown South only last Thur. evening.
Ballynonty 10 Mile
John Dunphy went and did the Ballynonty 10 on Sunday and came home in 70.13 on a nice course that wasn't too hilly. John who is just back from injury must be very pleased with such a fantastic time.
Churchtown South 5Mile
Thursday evening saw the 35th running of Churchtown South 5 mile and whilst it was not an ideal evening for running as many complained of the heat. Despite this we had some great runs from our members Paul Spiteri had a fantastic run getting "the monkey off his back" as he says himself and smashed that elusive 30 mins in fine style He was followed by Emmet Ronan back from holidays and the Eugene McCarthy also had a great run. The Monday nights training is really paying off for these guys.
Our ladies also had mighty runs Karen Grant was our first lady home finishing 3rd over all despite injury she managed a fine run and still retains her 1st place in the series. Next came Sheila Buckley who continues to improve with every race and finished 4th over all followed by Helen Gilroy who after a massive four hour drive came 1st O/40.Vicky Cleary also had a super run and got a PB which really is amazing considering the conditions there last night . It was a night of great runs or struggles with the heat just goes to show again that different conditions suit different runners. It was sad to see the great Margaret Jones on the sideline due to injury. There was a new record of the numbers running with 588 finishers.
