Cork to Cobh 15 Mile.
Cork to Cobh took place at 9.30 on Sunday morning and it was a fine morning for running. We had a fine strong crew out with many just using it as a training run for upcoming races in Amsterdam and Dublin. We had some fine results with Louise Barry and Marie Gillman getting PBs as did Michael McNamara who had a fantastic run with a PB by seven minutes. Debutants Siobhan Savage, Helen Sheehan and Margaret Mulcahy doing it for the first time had excellent runs.
In the prizes once again was Marie Gillman who took 1st O/50 and also got a team prize. Well done all and please send in any photo's or reports to mdtacinfo@gmail.com
Cross Country in Carrignavar
After Cork to Cobh a quick spin to Carrignavar to catch to Cross Country where we saw some great running as well. The ladies race was 4Km and a 12 noon start. Our first lady home with a much improved run was Eileen Leahy who won silver with 2nd U/23 and our ladies team finished 5th overall. Sally Drennan was next with her usual powerful cross country running. She was followed by Gillian Bransfield doing her first cross country race and was a revelation with a very strong run looking like she had been doing it for years. Emer Hayes had a very fine and again much improved run whilst Margaret Twohig showed she is a natural at cross country with her usual solid run.
Our men also gave a fine performance with Brian Harty returning to fine form as was Rod Scanlan just back from injury giving his all with a great run. It was great to see Marc Dalton back in the Midleton AC vest and having a good run showing he is well on his way to getting back to his real racing form. Our two newcomers Gerard McLean and David Moynihan had very good runs and both who had never run cross country before showed huge potential. Barry Williams and Paul Kearns had fine runs also with Barry engaged in a thrilling sprint for the line to gain that extra position for the club. Full results to follow later.
Thanks to Margaret Twohig and Joan McCarthy for the extra photo's
The brilliant news just in is that our ladies team have won gold in the Munster Half Marathon Championships which were held in conjunction with the Charleville Half Marathon. The winning team consisted of Anna Doris 6th, Deidre Aherne 15th and Marie Gillman 19th won by a comfortable twelve points from West Waterford with West Limerick a further six points behind them. This is a fantastic achievement for the ladies and the club. We are so proud of you ladies Well done.
Best of luck to everyone running this weekend as Sunday sees two major events with the Cork to Cobh at nine in the morning followed by the Cross Country later in the morning. So please if you are not running come out and support your fellow club members.
