WEEKEND RUNAROUND

Cross Country

Today Sunday saw some really great running from both our men and women especially. First home was Michelle Kenny running a very intelligent race in her pacing and tactics and taking 1ST lady for her effort she was followed by Karen Grant who also had a great run and took 3rd Lady Then came Sheila Buckley running even better than usual  followed by Trish Murphy. Trish who bravely stepped into the breach at the last minute to make up the team deserves huge credit for her effort as without her the girls would not have got 2nd team overall. Which is a fantastic result seeing as we were missing two of our team regulars Helen and Sally both unfortunately out due to injury. So that left the ladies with individual Gold and Bronze and Silver team.

Our men whilst finishing outside the prizes also had great runs. This was the first cross country season for most of them and they should all be really proud of their achievements. Our first man home was Paul Spiteri followed by Shea Coffee then Rod Scanlon and Adam Duchnicz . The others who made up the team were David Motherway, James Moore and John Carey. There was only seconds between our first four and they packed really well. The course was tough with a fine uphill combined with the rain made it a real cross country day. Well done all each of you did your club proud.

Cork To Cobh 15 Mile

We had a very large number taking part in this race today and whilst most were delighted to see the heat of yesterday disappear people were not so delighted to see the rain which was quite heavy at times.Everyone appears to have had very good runs and all were doing well when they passed me and reports from the finish seem to bear that out. The only prize winner reported in so far is Anna Doris who had a great run whilst using it as a training run only she manages to finish in the top ten and get 1st Lady O/40 (and a PB).
John Dunphy recently returned to the club appears to be our first man home with a very fine run.Lots out there today got PB's including Christine Murphy and several of the other ladies.Colette Barry, Bernie Twomey, Mary B Walsh, Alan Kelleher all had solid runs looking good  for Dublin at the end of the month. With Don O'Callahan and Louise Barry well on track for Amsterdam and Don Ryan looking great for New York . Apologies to those omitted  from the report (please send in the details).
We must all agree that it is one of the finest races around such good value for money 10 Euro and a great T Shirt, well stewarded ,with good prizes, no better value.I have seen it get better year by year and great credit must go to Cork BHAA for making it so good.No wonder people travel from all over the country and we are lucky to have it on our doorstep.
Two people I must single out as they are both inspirational that is Joseph Fouhy and Fionan O'hAodin who both finished just over the 2.10 mark. These two guys joined only this time last year totally unfit and overweight and now they are flying An example of just what can be done when one puts their minds to it.Well done guys ye along with the others have again done the Dev. Squad proud.
All other reports are welcome please  to mdtacinfo@gmail.com
